Did anyone buy Y Not this week? I downloaded it yesterday ($8 on iTunes) and while I'm still mulling it over, I'd say it was good. Nothing really stands out.

I saw a video of one of the tracks a few weeks ago and it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. In honesty I wouldn't expect much of a Ringo solo album, but this is fairly passable – certainly not terrible, though I couldn't see myself playing it more than a couple of times.
Here's the Ringo/Paul duet:
I don't want to be too mean about Ringo, but he's not a great singer. Paul is, and hearing the two of them together brings to the fore the differences in their abilities.

Offline mjb – well you can hear it for yourself (thanks Joe !) – my take on it is that it's a nice song but McCartney sounds a bit old, which makes me sad. If they weren't Beatles, would it have sold? Probably not.
Ringo was Jimmy Fallon the other night, and he answered some fan questions and sang “With A Little Help From My Friends ” which was great. Hopefully NBC doesn't take it down too quick. Here's part one:

He's also on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Presumably it has been broadcast by now in the US – I think it's on tonight in the UK at 8.30pm, More4.

I've just watched all the clips on You Tube and thought Ringo came across really well. Dare I say this live version of Walk With You sounded better than the studio version with Paul 
I loved the last song (With A Little Help ….) where Jimmy joins him on stage. It's hilarious the guy just doesn't know what to do with his hands!

Offline This is Ringo Starr we are talking about! The problem for both McCartney and Starr is that the world will forever judge them by the Beatles standards that they themselves set down 40 years ago. This song isn't ground breaking ahead of its time, but then, This is probably the weakest combination of ex-Beatles that features one of the original key songwriters. I think the track is fine!

I hope they repeat it. Jon would have had interesting questions. (Stupid job, making me miss cool things…)
I loved how excited Fallon was during the interview. I would certainly love to switch places with him!

Until viewing the clip I'd never heard of Jimmy Fallon. I liked him and his style. He admitted he was genuinely excited about the interview and as I've already said, when up on stage with Ringo he was like a little kid acting as if all his Christmas's had come at once!
On the subject of US Talkshow hosts, did anyone see the interview around the time of Love when Johnny Carson interviewed Paul & Ringo (along with Olivia & Yoko at various points)? It was so embarrasing. Carson was a total knob and Paul & Ringo ended up taking the p*ss……and I don't think Carson actually realised either.

I watched it on TV last night. It wasn't terrible but not great either. Poor Ringo didn't look too comfortable centre stage, though he perked up a little during With A Little Help From My Friends . He was pretty out-of-tune and his lyrics are full of cliches, though on the upside his violinist is very beautiful.
US people – was there anything else in the full show? We get an edited version here. After the above song they did With A Little Help , which was faded out as the credits rolled (so we didn't get Ringo's high note at the end).

He certainly went up a few points in my book. You've never seen the Blue Oyster Cult skit on SNL? The man can't keep a straight face. 😀 I'm surprised to hear that about Carson. I would have thought he could handle it.
The problem with Jon Stewart is that you can never tell when he's sincere. Fallon did a better job I think of making Ringo feel welcomed.

Jon Stewart is a god in our house. I think he was genuinely honoured to have Ringo on his show. The night before, when he announced which guests were coming up, he berated the audience for giving Ben Harper a bigger cheer than Ringo. It's probably easy to take the piss out of Ringo but I don't think he was interested in doing so.

Offline At least Ringo knows where his fan base lies with all this US pubilicty. He always was favoured in the States. I wonder how many people would turn out if he did a UK theatre tour? If he had one of two well known faces along with him I'm sure he'd do OK……

I genuinely would love him to do it because i'd go and see him for sure, but I think as he hasn't done it by now, he never will.
To my knowledge he's only ever performed once here and that was in Liverpool. I can't recall the year (sometime in the 90s) but I do remember it was on his birthday – 7th July. Needless to say the theatre was packed out for that show.

Offline If Liverpool doesn't love him, then who will? I'd love to go to New York and see him play but if the tickets wouldn't break the bank, the airfare and hotel would! We'll have to satisfy ourselves with wishing everyone peace and love on July 7th.

You were close – it was actually 6 July 1992, at the Liverpool Empire.
I don't think a Ringo tour in the UK would be much of a success. Although people here are in awe of The Beatles and what they achieved, Ringo's star(r) has fallen a fair bit since then, and he's not really known for much else than narrating Thomas The Tank Engine. His music is generally perceived as irrelevant and below-average. I can't say I disagree with any of that.
If he did tour I'd consider going if he had a decent band, but anticipating a night of listening to Ringo singing doesn't fill me with glee. It almost feels like heresy to write that – he was a Beatle, for heaven's sake – but it's true. I'm not sure either why attitudes are different in the US. Perhaps because it's a bigger country and so there are more people willing to support him.

Well remembered Joe!
He might get away with a brief tour once, for nostalgic reasons, but that would most likely be all. And right from the off in February 1964, Ringo had an appeal to the Americans…….perhaps they felt sorry for him sat at the back!

Offline I do believe that might be the case. You might assume that Paul and John would get all the attention, so you over compensate? It still doesn't explain why, but then I don't understand Australia's obsession with Lost in Space either. Ah, culture. 
I do admit that if I were to go to one his or Paul's concerts, it would be to see a Beatle. I hear Paul still gives a good show. Any chance that he might go west of the Mississippi?
