Ringo has taken the occasion of his birthday to announce his new album, Give More Love, due on 15 September (vinyl on 22 September).
The album features 10 new tracks and four oldies reworked.
Guests on the album include Paul McCartney , Eagles’ Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit, Edgar Winter, Steve Lukather, Peter Frampton, Dave Stewart, Benmont Tench, Nathan East, Don Was, Alberta Cross, Vandaveer and All Starr Band members Richard Page and Gregg Bissonette.
Tracklisting:
We’re on the Road Again (with McCartney, Walsh, Winter and Lukather)
Laughable (Frampton, Tench, Schmit, Page and Amy Keys)
Show Me the Way (Lukather, McCartney)
Speed of Sound (Lukather, Frampton, East)
Standing Still
King of the Kingdom (Stewart, Winter)
Electricity (Walsh, Was)
So Wrong for So Long (Stewart)
Shake It Up (Was, Winter)
Give More Love (Schmit, Page, Bissonette)
Back Off Boogaloo
Don’t Pass Me By (Vandaveer)
You Can’t Fight Lighting (Cross)
Photograph (Vandaveer)
The version of Back Off Boogaloo is based on the original recording Ringo made just after writing the song, a tape that was discovered when moving houses. The remaining three revisits are collaborations with Alberta Cross (You Can’t Fight Lightning) and Vandaveer (Don’t Pass Me By and Photograph). Both acts had performed the tracks at Ringo’s 2016 Peace & Love Birthday bash. Ringo loved their versions and asked them to record them for the album, and he’s added some vocals.
The title track is available on Spotify.

That has put a smile on my face! I’m quite excited for the reworked versions of Photograph and Don’t Pass Me By ! All we need (as well as more love ) is Paul’s album to be announced!

Excited to hear this in two years when I return. The title track sounds like a basic Robo Ringo track, which is expected.

I’m really looking forward to this album. And to celebrate it, we are seeing Ringo live in Las Vegas and watching the updated Beatles Love show.
Right now I’m listening to Ringo’s album, Time Takes Time.

Honestly I prefer this version of Don’t Pass Me By to The White Album ‘s. He really nails the mood. Maybe it helps that the song is already a classic, but I love it nonetheless.

Man, this site can be slow! It took my computer 1 minute, 20 seconds from the point I clicked on this post on the main page to the point where I could actually begin typing here.
Anyway, I’m afraid to say I found Ringo’s latest effort to be a bit… underwhelming. I agree that his makeover of “Don’t Pass Me By ” brings out some of the latent country coolness of the song; however, the potential he palpates would be better executed vocally, I think, by, say Emmylou Harris and Dolly Parton in a duet (with much the same fine instrumentation Ringo’s team brought to bear).

I think my happiness that Ringo has an album out might exceed my actual enjoyment of the album.
There are many good things here:
There’s a nice Beatlesque ending to “We’re On The Road Again.”
“So Wrong For So Long” is awesome, and it makes me wish Ringo would do a country album.
“Shake It Up” is also excellent and makes me wish Ringo would do a rockabilly album.
“King Of The Kingdom” does not make me wish Ringo would do a reggae album.
The re-make of “Back Off Boogaloo” is pointless, but the re-makes of “Don’t Pass Me By ,” “You Can’t Fight Lightning” and “Photograph” are excellent. Ordinarily I would be a little dismayed about an artist covering four of his own songs to flesh out a new album, but the album is 10 songs without the covers, so they’re more like “bonus” tracks…and 3 out of 4 of them are really good.
The rest of it is not all that memorable, in my view – the production is tasteful but it doesn’t really take advantage of the natural character and quality of Ringo’s voice.
Again, I’m thrilled Ringo has an album out. And about half of it is really, really great.

He found the original demo, @meanmistermustard, during his recent declutter. He liked it, and rather than just release it as a bonus track on something, decided to add some new overdubs and include it among his revisits of earlier songs on this album. So, it’s not strictly a re-recording, but rather an embellished demo.
