What I like about Ringo compared to other drummers is that he never tries to overshadow the other members with his drumming, with the exception of the outro of the Anthology 2 version of Strawberry Fields Forever yet he’s still a good drummer and his drumming fits perfectly with The Beatles. Also, when he does drum solos, he let’s other instruments play along with him, such as the viola/drum solo during Hello Goodbye . Compare that to other drummers, especially jazz drummers like Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa, all they’re trying to do is to make themselves look better than their fellow bandmates.
Don’t get me wrong, I think that drummers like Gene Krupa and Keith Moon are great drummers, but I think Ringo is better than them because he doesn’t have a problem with keeping a steady beat without trying to show off, yet he will also provide excellent fills while keeping with the band.

I had to check the orignal title to make sure it wasn’t posted on April 1st. Anything besides what it is now would suit me.

Any change to the title of this thread would be a disgrace.
The OP explains their choice of title in the first post.
It is one thing to change a thread title if it is offensive, or with the agreement – or at the request – of the OP, but to consider changing a thread title three-and-a-half because the opinion it suggests isn’t to someone’s liking would be a travesty.

I was more commenting on how it upset me, not actually looking for a change.
But please if you want to talk about his drumming skills post it a more positive thread, becauee we have plenty on that subject.
Or don’t, because i’m not the boss arounf here and everyone can do whatever they want.

But the OP was being a little pissant when he created the title. I will think on it. It doesn’t matter to me if the title stays the same or not. People could choose to start posting in the Ringo Appreciation thread and this thread might die and either on the vine.

Personally, I like how it is as it is coming from a different focal point than Ringo is great. Additionally, people may be more intrigued to read the thread due to the title as it is a more unusually phrased question than you normally get.
I’m not against a change, above are just my own thoughts. If others wish an alteration then life will go on and I’ll have forgotten with minutes.

It’s far removed from a disgrace and a travesty if the thread title is changed. Yes, it should be heavily considered and discussed before any change, however, thread titles have been changed in the past as it was felt it would be easier for forum users to find and contribute to threads if the titles were, and are more relevant. It’s never something mods seek out or encourage but there are reasons for the changes aside from being offensive or by request of the OP.
It should also be noted that the original poster of this thread has not visited the site since 5:53pm on the 11th March 2015, over two years ago. To seek and wait for his/her permission/feedback could be a long wait.

…and related to teh Dear Prudence question (i do agree that the second section is by Ritchie)…
Still amazes me how many people actually believe that that’s Paul on the drums… Yes, he laid down a basic drum track for the song because Ringo wasn’t around to do it himself, you can even hear it here before Ringo covered up Paul’s floundering:
Somehow, what somebody’s book says trumps (for lack of a better word!) this very clear record of Paul’s inability to do anything else with the song than keep a basic beat… It’s more to do about what this book doesn’t say, I mean, just because there’s no other mention of a drum overdub after August 22nd, or whatever the day was, people decide for themselves uncategorically that it must be Paul playing those ripping fills… As much as The Beatles’ legacy has been so well documented, so much of it wasn’t… If they could lose the Stereo Master for ‘She Loves You ‘ only five years previously, why is it so unbelievable that some bit of paper documenting Ringo’s overdub for ‘Dear Prudence ‘ is missing? …or, simply just never got logged in the first place?
Here’s a more technically breakdown:
Then again… This is only Beatles’ audio and not a book made by someone who wasn’t there…:-)

Actually, contrary to popular belief, it’s possible that Ringo was there when Dear Prudence was being recorded or at least the following day when they were doing overdubs and i have photographic proof.
This picture, containing all 4 Beatles, was taken at Trident studios. Some people say that this photo is from Hey Jude but it can’t be because John doesn’t play electric guitar on that song and there is video footage of The Beatles recording that song where they’re wearing different clothes.
If i am right that means that this picture is from the 30 August 1968 when they were doing overdubs and Ringo overdubbed drums, handclaps, and backing vocals on this day.
Maybe Mal was telling the truth after all although i can’t 100% confirm what session this picture was taken during.

Great photo! I always love the studio shots.
No proof, but I am absolutely in the “Richy did the overdubs at the end of Dear Prudence ” camp. Sure, Paul could play the drums, but the big question is could he nail Ringo’s style that absolutely? I doubt it.

What’s a good drummer, key player, guitarist, singer, bassist, etc? For me, it’s not the technicality, number of notes/second, how fast you can play… It’s the musicality, the finesse, the ideas to flow to the rhythm of the song and lastly, the technique.
Mr Starr is a top notch musician blending so well with all Beatles songs in various styles. Always the right way for each song like all the other three Beatles…
So much soul and feeling in his playing, great drummer in my opinion.
Listen to Santana, Gilmour, Mason, not so much about technique but a lot with timing, rhythm and feeling.

THANK YOU
I’m a huge fan of Nick Mason’s drumming, but he’s quite underrated, so I immensely appreciate your mentioning him.
