Thanks, SG. I think your legacy with the Forum will be made manifest when someone makes an obscure reference and the reply is to “Google it like Silly Girl.”
I say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did'.

Actually, that’s probably more of Ahhh Girl’s legacy, since she will drop everything and conduct a thorough and professional search on behalf of anybody who asks (or even hints). I’ll bet Macca can’t search better than AG, even if he is a better drummer than she is!

Yeah, you’re probably right there @georgiewood. My legacy will most likely involve George portraits and posting twentysomething posts per day*.
*That was a while back, my PPD has dropped since then. Alas.

Here’s an idea of how good R was……..He played the song.
This guy isn’t bad. I don’t think he has Ringo’s feel, but he nails the notes, even the sweep of the hi hat that Ringo did. I was laughing so hard when Yesterday came up. He should have done more with Rain and he left out She Said She Said . All in all though not bad!

That was wizard, thanks! *feels the Ringolove*
When he started to play Ticket To Ride , I thought for a half second he was going to play a basic boring 4/4 shuffle like any drummer might play, but then that Ringoism, that second downbeat, came in and I was like HECKYEAH ROCK ON RINGO
It’s a very lyrical way of drumming, to play along with the riff like that.
Poor Ringo, he just can’t help being a genius.

I absolutley lurved that video, thanks for bringing it to my attention, @meanmistermustard ! I thought too that Ticket was a simple 4/4 shuffle thing, and well no! So interesting to hear him talk about and show how he came up with some of his patterns. I could sit at his adorable feet and learn from him all day.

Ringo is my top drummer, I just don’t get he needs two drummers for his concerts, reasons I could think of is the union or he enjoys the sound of two drummers.
Other drummers on my list
- Nick Mason
- John Bonham
- Jeff Porcaro
- Keith Moon
EDIT: Adding Neil Peart to the list
Someone mentioned Nick Mason. Post thanked.
Nick is my 2nd favourite drummer*.
*Granted, I don’t know that many very well, but all the same…

Ringo was an incredible drummer for many reasons. I don’t agree that you have to be technically proficient to be considered great by the way.
He was (and still is) one of the ultimate song drummers.
This video sums it up pretty well:

That video told me that my drumming in a little band I’m in at school (not the main one with my Beatles Medley) is actually good. Thanks @Flyingbrians for that, you’ve allowed me to restore faith in my drumming!
Holey!
As for Ringo: you need look no further than Hello Goodbye . A bit of everything, all of it fitting the music.

There’s actually people who would call Ringo a horrible drummer, I can’t believe it. I personally think Ringo Starr is the best drummer of all time. Although he didn’t have the speed or skill of other drummers like Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, John Bonham, Neil Peart, Keith Moon, or Mike Portnoy, but you don’t need to be the fastest and most skilled to be the best (it’s actually a pet peeve of mine when people say this), if that were the case we’d be considering people like Rob Scallon and Yngvie Malmstein better guitarists than George Harrison , Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, and Eddie Van Halen. What makes someone the best at an instrument has nothing to do with speed but rather having a great feel and creating great grooves, which Ringo is king at, he always knew how to keep a steady beat yet also used fills quite often and even had a few drum solos. If you’d like, here are 10 great drum parts by Ringo Starr , listed in chronological order:
1. What You’re Doing , intro/verse pattern (Beatles For Sale , 1964)
2. Day Tripper , fills (1965)
3. Tomorrow Never Knows , main pattern (Revolver , 1966)
4. A Day In The Life , drummer’s introductory fills (Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band, 1967)
5. Hello, Goodbye , drum solo (Magical Mystery Tour , 1967)
6. Strawberry Fields Forever (Take 7 And Edit Piece), outro drum solo (recorded in 1967, released on Anthology, 1995)
7. Birthday , full song (The Beatles, 1968)
8. Helter Skelter , outro (The Beatles, 1968) *only on stereo version
9. Come Together , main riff (Abbey Road , 1969)
10. The End , drum solo (Abbey Road , 1969)

My dad challenged me to cut every single fill Ringo ever did and place them in chronological order, into one big medley. I’ll let you know when I finish (it will take a while!)

Even though I’ve only finished PPM and WTB so far, I can see a vague pattern emerging. I can’t wait to play it to you!

What order is this in, record date, release date, album release date, I recommend using the Apple canon with these modifications:
1. place the songs from Past Masters where they were released per song (for example place Paperback Writer in between Rubber Soul and Revolver )
2. place the new songs to Yellow Submarine before The Beatles and Hey Jude single because they were released on July 13th, 1968 as part of the movie, whereas Hey Jude wasn’t released until 30/8 and The Beatles until 22/11.

I was thinking of doing something very similar: Put the albums (including MMT) in order, then insert the stuff from Past Masters in the appropriate places.
But currently I’m just getting the fills isolated!

How are you isolating these fills, I know you can isolate the left and right without getting any information from the center in those channels and I also know you can isolate the center, but how else are you going to isolate the drum section because the drum part is often mixed to the same channel as the rest of the backing track and there are only so many songs that have a 5.1 surround mix and or the multitracks from The Beatles Rock Band.

Isolate is a bad word for me to use. I’m simply cropping the song, leaving everything in. I feel like I could explain that better, but I can’t.
