I used to know these, @trcanberra! I don’t believe that is Klaus next to Yoko. He appears to be sketching the scene on a square piece of paper, so I would suggest that that’s the cover artist, Tim Bruckner, including himself in the scene. Marc Bolan is on the left, in green trousers, climbing over the wall. There are members of The Band in the second row, behind the “artist” and Yoko, to the left of Linda. I’ll see what else I can think of.
Klaus. ha ha.
I don’t like to say “I told you so”, but …..

I always said I was happy to be proved wrong, @trcanberra. One thing I was right though, Tim Bruckner does include himself in the scene.

Offline I notice in a previous comment here I, under my former nom de plume (“FunnyPaper”), mentioned how much I like Klaus Voormann’s bass playing in the song “Step Lightly” on this Ringo album. Very satisfying extremely deep bass notes, with a kind of trebly “crunch” to them.
Just now, I wanted to make sure I was right about that. I checked the “Discogs” website, which has the personnel for every track listed on multiple issues of the album:

Not ONE of these under “Step Lightly” list Klaus Voormann at all. Every reference to it says:

Then I suddenly remembered that all of reality is not on the Internet. I hunted down my original LP of Ringo amid my scattered archeological digs of LPs, located it, looked on the back cover — and lo and behold! It says:

Electric Guitar: Steve Cropper
Electric Piano: Nicky Hopkins
Bass: Klaus Voormann
Acoustic Guitar: Jimmy Calvert

That last mention refers to the sounds of tap shoes on the recording — Ringo himself tap-dancing!

I suspect that most of reality is not on the internet and it feeds us a distorted view of the past and the present. Or filtered. Like any medium is.

Offline The internet cannot be incorrect, therefore the only logical conclusion is that the LP notes from 1973 written by the people there at the time involved in the recording of the track were wrong.

Not ONE of these under “Step Lightly” list Klaus Voormann at all. Every reference to it says:
Something interesting I noticed about most of the discs listed on discogs is that they had no bass listed for any song! A big but perhaps inadvertent mistake. Just to be obnoxious, I found this UK release at the site listing Klaus on bass (but omitting Ringo’s tapping).
I often look at the Wikipedia entry for songs, because it’s usually the best place to find author credits and at least some interesting critique. In this case it doesn’t disappoint, listing both Klaus’ bass and Ringo’s shoes as contributing instruments 🙂
I could not believe that Ringo has no solo songs in Rolling Stones’ top 500 songs list, and I mention it because I think at least Photograph qualifies if not It Don’t Come Easy. I realize that’s an exclusive list but Photograph is a really great song. The album is, imo, his best.

Offline I’ve just finished listening to this album all the way through, for the first time in many years … I have it on vinyl stored away somewhere … and I really enjoyed it! There are no really weak tracks and there are plenty of outstanding songs, particularly the ones featuring John, Paul and George … they really came good for Ringo on this album without overshadowing Ringo’s personality which shines through the whole album.
It is good that Ringo managed to make one really good album, though I like ‘Beaucoups Of Blues’ as well as that was the first Ringo solo album I bought, back in the 1970s.
