Now that ‘Sgt. Pepper’ has been remixed and reissued, Ringo Starr shares his wish list
“I’d like to do the White Album ,” Starr said recently, referring to the 1968 double album officially titled “The Beatles.” “I think Giles should redo that. I don’t know why not. And ‘Abbey Road .’
“But I love the White Album [because] we were back being a band, even though emotionally it was a bit weird between us for a while, and I left the band and came back, and George had all those flowers — you know that story.
“One of the great images to me to this day was the four of us, and the drums, tucked in a room that was like 8 feet by 8 feet or 8 feet by 10 feet and we played ‘Yer Blues ’ together,” he said. “We were back being a band again, and so close — there was no separation …
“I’ve told you this before: If you ever want to talk to me about the group, no matter what was going on, after the count-in, we all did our best,” he said. “No one said, ‘That’s not my song.’ Everyone was in after the count-in. I love that — that was the great thing about us.”
Awwww, Ringo.

Yet another song pre-release from Ringo! I find it very interesting how different styles the rocking We’re On The Road again, the folky So Wrong For So Long and this new song have. I think it’s going to be a really exciting album!

Am I the only one who absolutely freaking ADORES what he did with Don’t Pass Me By ? Supposedly a throwaway-sounding song has new life. The instrumentation is such a better fit I can’t describe! The nod to Octopus’s Garden was also a nice touch. The harmonica, too!
Love, love, love, love, LOVE it!

To get this thread back on topic, instead of all the comments about Ringo’s new album that belong in that album’s thread, here’s a good video:
and a Guardian article about “a masterful drummer and the Beatles’ unsung genius”.

Not if the posts better fit another thread, @Little Piggy Dragonguy, otherwise we should only two threads – an appreciation thread, and a criticism thread. The idea of having different threads is to group together comments on the same subject so they can be easily read and followed. If you have to search a bunch of threads to find all the comments about the same thing, it makes the forum difficult to navigate.

Excellent Ringo interview with Howard Stern on Sirius XM. He really sounds terrific.
He’s still got that great voice and he’s really sharp.

I think 1965 Ringo and 1969 Ringo are my favorites.
But tbh he’s always been the best (pun not intended).

Mop top Ringo from around late 1964-1966 and then in early 1968 are probably my favourite looks of his.
[Image Can Not Be Found]I don’t really mind any of his facial hair phases (I’d probably put his present day look or his Hurricane quiff and beard combo after the above two), it’s just there’s something unique about clean shaven Ringo!
His worst look, however, either has to be his infamous Pitbull impression from 1976 or the late 80s/early 90s ponytail.

God I love that Hurricane quiff. Probably my second favorite Ringo hairstyle, behind 1964.
Oh crap that’s not good, it’s telling me something about flood control. I don’t see any extra text though…

Speaking of Ringo’s quiff…
Here’s the part in Tune In where Lewisohn talks about Ringo’s transition from Hurricane to Beatle. Scene: Ringo’s first Cavern date as a Beatle. Professional photographers are taking pictures of the Beatles playing.
There were plenty of genuine smiles in evidence, with Ringo beaming from under his first not-very-good attempt at a Beatle hairstyle. Amid all the many reactions to Ringo that first chaotic night in the Cavern had been some hilarity about his hair. As fan and drummer David Boyce says, “He’d obviously been told to wash his hair and comb it forward, but because it had been combed back into a quiff for so long it came down badly and he couldn’t get the look.”…
The Beatles’ and Brain’s hairdresser, Jim Cannon, would experience much difficulty getting Ringo’s hair to fall correctly, and it was some months before this was achieved successfully, a period in which – as many photos show – Ringo’s head was a fiesta of dodgy styles…”
