Hi @ant1248. Sorry, I had to remove the links to your torrent and download files.
I’m uneasy about people posting direct links to files, for various reasons: I don’t want to get into conversations with lawyers; I can’t check the files for viruses; but mainly I don’t want this site to be a hub for filesharing.
I know I posted the stem file links to begin with, but the mods and I have since had a lot of discussion about what we should allow through. We don’t want people posting direct links to these sorts of downloads (which includes studio outtakes and live bootlegs), though links to blogs which do deal with bootlegs are OK. Basically, make it someone else’s responsibility, not mine.
Sorry if this needs clarifying or seems incomplete. It’s 12.15 Christmas morning here in the UK and I’m a bottle of wine down (thanks @Ahhh Girl!). Normal incoherence will be resumed at a later date. Hic. Happy Christmas everyone. Can you leave it till Boxing Day to call me a hypocrite please?

I also had issues with audacity and Day Tripper and IWYSSH but I figured out the simple way to fix it:
* pull in the mogg file, export multiple to ogg files (NOT wav)
* open the first ogg file and import the rest one by one so you match up each stereo pair
* set every odd track to left channel and every even track to right channel, this restores the original panning
* mute/solo and adjust gain on each track. I found the bass needed -17db on Day Tripper !
* fiddle about and don’t forget to save your project for later!
Discovered the joy of the beautiful drum recording on IWYSSH and now we also know what the noise is after John’s screamed YEAH – its the guide vocal from the basic track, unrelated! Really love Billy Preston’s work, fantastic organ work.

Shouldn’t be happening, all the Beatles moggs have 5 stereo tracks.

This may not be the most legal way to acquire them, but I used torrents to get mine. There really worth a listen, especially if you’re trying to analyze the songs and you could hear a lot of things that you can’t hear during a normal listen, such as George singing the solo to Something or Ringo’s guide cymbal/metronome in Because .
Maybe you should try posting more.

Thank you yes – I can’t tell you how valuable these are to me – the big white full transcription book is riddled with errors – I think I can get a very accurate transcription this way. I’m especially excited to analyze Paul’s supremely melodic bass parts – the nuance you can’t hear in full – little grace notes and subtleties that enhance the feel.

If you just want to isolate Paul’s basslines, you don’t even need The Beatles Rock Band multitracks, here’s what you do:
1. Open your Beatles file in Audacity (a CD quality track would work the best here)
2. Click on the Effect tab
3. Scroll down to Equalization
4. You want to set the EQ in such a way that anything that is over 300HZ is reduced by at least 30DB
It will sound a little weird, so for the songs that do have Rock Band multitracks, I’d use the multitracks, but for songs like Hey Jude , She Loves You , and Let It Be that don’t, this is the way to go

What works even better than that, I find, is:
1 and 2 do exactly the same
3. Select Low Pass Filter
4. Enter the settings ‘200hz’ and then ’48 dB’.
But still, the multitracks are so much better, especially for the later songs when they had 8 track recording equipment!

Since The Beatles recorded their songs in 3 different ways, you have to realize that there’s 3 different types of quality here.
2 track (Love Me Do –With The Beatles ):
With these, you get the original multitracks on the stereo mix, the left channel typically had the instruments and the right had vocals and sometimes overdubs, with nothing in the center. To get the bass out, isolate the left channel and the bass frequencies from it and in turn, you will have obtained more separation than the original backing track. The Beatles Rock Band does a terrible job with these songs.
4 track (I Want To Hold Your Hand -The Beatles (some tracks)):
With these, it depends from track to track, but it’s typically something like this:
Track 1 (left): rhythm guitar, bass, drums
Track 2 (center): vocals
Track 3 (right): lead guitar
Track 4 (right): any additional overdubs
for this case, you’d go to Audacity, choose Vocal Reduction And Isolation , pick Remove Center, isolate the left channel, and then finally the bass frequencies. The Beatles Rock Band does a decent job at getting these tracks.
8 track (Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band (some tracks)-Let It Be ):
As with 4 track, it depends from track to track, but it’s typically something like this:
Track 1: Rhythm Guitar
Track 2: Lead Guitar
Track 3: Bass Guitar
Track 4: Drums
Track 5: Lead Vocals
Track 6: Backing Vocals
Track 7: Additional Lead Guitar
Track 8: Piano
Find the channel with the bass and isolate it using the abovementioned 4 track method. If you can, use the bass tracks from The Beatles Rock Band.

There is another way to get isolated tracks for a lot of these songs that’s far more legal, and most of us probably already have 99% of the tools to do it.
Allow me to introduce you to the wonderful world of 5.1 surround sound DVDs and the wonderful things you can do with DVD ripping software to extract the audio.
There are tons of programs out there for extracting audio from a DVD if you want to Google around and try to find something that’s free, but I just went ahead and paid for a license for WinX DVD Ripper because it was worth it, and it was only $20 or $30. Now I can pop any DVD into my laptop and use that program to extract the 6-channel audio into an AC3 file, which can then be opened with Audacity so you can see each of the six tracks individually.
Here are a few of the DVDs currently out there that feature 5.1 surround sound: Help ! (amazing separation on this one), the Anthology set, Lennon Legend, The McCartney Years, Love, 1+, the recent Magical Mystery Tour re-issue, A Hard Day’s Night (separation isn’t as good here), and — to my delight — the James Bond film “Live And Let Die ,” in case you want to have a go at Paul’s theme song.
It’s fantastic for a DVD like Love, being able to isolate certain tracks where all of the mash-up goodies are buried. And The McCartney Years gives you two discs worth of Paul’s solo stuff that features really good separation.
EDIT: I saw further up the thread that someone was asking about multi-track stuff for The Doors. This same method I’ve described will obviously work with any surround sound DVD, and I think that box set called “The Doors: Perception” featured some 5.1 DVDs. Can’t speak to how well they separated the channels, though, since I’ve never heard it. Just pointing out that DVD audio extraction is (obviously) applicable to stuff outside the world of Beatledom.

That’s fantastic, and you get songs that aren’t just the usual 67 odd songs floating around the net. I will definitely have to try that – I’d love the vocals to You’re Going To Lose That Girl , and the Guitar to I Need You . Thanks for the tip!

I was most surprised by the piano/bongo track in You’re Going To Lose That Girl . I knew the bongo was there, but I’m not sure I’d ever really heard the piano before, and Paul is seriously banging away at it in the lower registers. I posted a short 30-second clip here: https://clyp.it/user/g1mejsfn
Like I said, the separation between channels on Help ! is phenomenal. You’ll really enjoy I Need You , I think. George’s nylon-string guitar is in a channel completely separate from his 12-string.
And honestly, I really loved going through Macca’s solo stuff on The McCartney Years. Found some stuff I’d not heard as clearly in his vocal track on “My Brave Face,” and isolating Laurence Juber’s acoustic guitar solo on “Goodnight Tonight” was eye-opening.
Here’s another clip, a remix I did of “Octopus’s Garden ” from the Love DVD where I tried to emphasize (at different points) Ringo’s vocal and the various mash-up bits: https://clyp.it/c1wko4e4
Have fun!

Well I’m very late to this party and I doubt anyone will reply but… referring to the surround sound thing… does this mean that the DVD in the new White Album box set would have the isolated tracks to the ENTIRE White Album ?
