Double-time outro of “Love You To “
Outro of “8 Days a Week” is cool for mirroring the intro, except not faded (and that chord progression has nothing else to do with the song)

Favourite endings, great topic. I think McCartney said once he was really good at the beginnings and ends and not so good at the middles! In no particular order of personal favourites which may already be mentioned:
* Lovely Rita – the whole end section really, it takes the song somewhere else. Inspired bassplaying.
* The White Album is full of downright spooky endings, like Cry Baby Cry and John’s nonsense earworm at the end of I’m So Tired , but my favourite is the fadeout to While My Guitar Gently Weeps because it sounds like the beginning of the really crazy bit. Oh and the applause at the end of The Continuing Story Of Bungalow Bill
* Those fades when something changes just before it disappears, like Paul’s bass in Hey Jude . George’s ‘One more time..” at the Piggies ending which always makes me smile.
* Tomorrow Never Knows and I Am The Walrus – I still get the chills from them.

Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe. This has been true for 2016 & 2017 but I may have to get more specific in the future.

Many of my favorites have already been mentioned. I’d add the little rave up at the end of Ticket To Ride (“My baby don’t care…”)
I also like the ending of Girl w/ the guitars approximating a Greek bouzouki sound.
What about the ending of Get Back – which do you guys prefer? The Let it Be ending or the single version? I love Lennon’s “I hope we passed the audition,” but I think I might like Paul’s “your mommy’s waitin’ for ya” a little better.

No particular favorite among the “Get Back ” versions.

Oh, but it does! It’s the same three chords as are used in the verses (D major, E major, G major, back to D), just played much higher up the neck, and with the droning D-note on the bass. Try singing a line from one of the verses during the intro sometime, it’s fun!

John pretty much nicked it, like he did for a number of songs.

All You Need Is Love ‘s ending is my favorite. How the ending has a collaboration of a couple different songs throughout the years, to build up to the level they were at while they made the song.

I always thought This Boy had a nice outro. The way they’re all rather mournfully going ‘This booooy…’ and those guitar notes and that slide as it fades away, leaving one with a sense of unutterably sentimental nostalgia… which I think was the point.

I’d forgotten what This Boy does at the outro, so while looking for it on YouTube I could not find the recorded version and only found one of their performances — .
Then after finding the recorded version and comparing, I find I much prefer what they did on that live show — instead of fading out, they hit that chord and just sang “This Boy …” holding it steady for a couple of seconds, without dipping down as they had done throughout the song. If recorded, they could have even enhanced their voices at that point perhaps with a slight echo effect.

I never go long on this forum without revealing my shocking ignorance of musical history. I’d never heard “Lonesome Tears in My Eyes ” before (and didn’t know the Beatles had covered it, either)!
Great song — I really like the Danny Everett version — but I can’t find the Beatles cover. Does anyone have a link to it? Thanks…

Thanks mmm! It worked! What a great rendition — George really goes to town on those fills (I’m assuming it’s him), and John’s voice is remarkable, especially given that the song seems more of a Paul type of song. It’s a shame in retrospect that John didn’t see fit to reprise this song on his 1975 solo album Rock ‘N’ Roll .
My only misgiving is that I prefer a slower tempo for this melody, more lilting with a Caribbean calypso feel.

But I thought that was just where they were lip-synching to the record on television to promote the single? I listened to it, then to my Past Masters CD version, and they sound identical to me, even down to the mixing. Except that the vid is poorer sound quality.
