Bravo.
There are plenty of people posting here where English is their second language, and they make big efforts (not always successful) to communicate their meanings, for which I respect them greatly.
I don’t understand the affectation of deliberate misspellings which must involve more effort than simply writing in clear English, and which seem designed to make it difficult to understand what is being said. It must be a nightmare for the non-native English speakers and, on that basis alone, is hugely inconsiderate.
For the benefit of non-native English speakers, I think DEADBEATLES was saying (but making it difficult to understand that he was saying) this: “There was actually a whole discussion [on a(?); on another(?); on an Ono(?)] thread about that. I don’t know where it went, though.”

It was an April fools joke. Their spelling normally is better than mine.

I like the guitar on In My Life . That song has a great solo.

Bit early for that, innit?

Funny you should say that, because there is a distinct lack of guitar in In My Life . (ugh… it’s like saying “this and that and And I Love Her *… ugh.) It only does that little opening riff. Oh, and the instrumental break is a sped-up piano played by George M. ‘Tis nice.
“Here There And Everywhere ” features some of the most amazingly subdued strumming I’ve ever heard– it’s almost percussive. It seems like a song that would be acoustic, and yet George uses (I think) his twelve-string Rick, and it’s inexpressibly #$%^&*!!!!!!!!!
*And speaking of “And I Love Her “, I’ve dissected the whole track– it’s fairly simple– and I’m amazed by how well all the guitar fits together. It’s TIGHT!!!

Course they did. It’s rock band, not (plastic) soul band.

Staying on topic:
I think it’s really neat how in “I’ve Just Seen A Face ” there’s no instrumentation apart from the three guitars. Granted, one of the parts, which I assume is Paul’s, is basically a bass line played on a guitar (which is tuned down), but it’s still a guitar noise and not a bass noise. FAB!

Basses are guitars. But, guitars are not basses. Once you understand that, it becomes possible to talk about whether or not a tuned-down guitar becomes a bass… but at what point though…? Because a lot of the notes are the same… except the lower ones , usually called ‘bass notes’ .. but, if played on a guitar, even a tuned-down one… are they really bass notes? or just …. (discontinued)

I also enjoy a lot the crunchy sound of the the guitars across the Pepper’s album, on tracks like:
- Sgt. peppers…
- Getting better
- Fixing A Hole
- and of course the masterpiece good morning…
And also the acoustic guitar in ‘A Day In The Life ‘, although it’s not crunchy it’s very very well produced and arranged…just in the upbeats and in combination with the bass and piano…magic…
The sound of the crunchy fuzzy overdrived guitars is also valid for the Abbey Road album… glorious
Thx!

You can understand my confusion when I saw for the first time, a Canadian Beatles 45 called “Die Beatles” until I realized it was German!

Has anyone mentioned John’s awesome solo in “You Can’t Do That “? I didn’t really appreciate it until I spent over an hour learning the damn thing yesterday evening.

Yea, but have you guys ever heard Beatles on 78 RPM? We had one, forget which song, from the Phillipines? Can’t remember.
I’m sitting here with a guitar pal, he’s not much experienced, but he’s mentioning the ‘magic progression’ in Day in the Life.
He’s talking… ‘like a massive movement of sound’ … and now he’s talking about Geo Martin making the guitar stuff ‘explode’ …
George’s short lead in “Never give me yer Money’ … it ‘squawks’ in his words…
I’m showing him how John played ‘Day Tripper ‘ and he is revisiting the blown mind that he experienced the first time he heard it.
PErsonally I like ‘I Need You ‘ with the tone-knob fiddling.

The guitar solo in Nowhere Man trips me out. Well, the whole song really– those glistening harmonies– but it hits a climax with the solo.

“Basses are guitars. But, guitars are not basses.”
There’s a cool instrument I’ve often thought of buying (though whenever I’ve gone into the very few music and/or guitar stores in my neck of the woods, they never seem to have one on hand for me to take a look at) — which is not a “bass guitar” but a guitar bass — what appears to be an ordinary acoustic guitar fitted with four strings so thick, they function as bass strings.
Over the years as I’ve plunked away on my acoustic steel string guitar (ol’ “Bessy Lou”, she’s been with me through thick and thin…), whenever I play along to records, I have increasingly used it as a kind of acoustic bass guitar, playing bass riffs far more often than forming chords.

That sounds fab. I want one. Anybody gotta bitta money?

Now there’s something that’s fun to do– play bass on the acoustic along with a record. One I’ve found particularly fun to noodle along with is Octopus’s Garden .
