Finally completed my Teddy Boy John drawing. The actual drawing looks better than this, I promise! The eyes are the same shade, for starters… But since I’m having scanner problems, a picture of the drawing, taken under bad lighting, will have to do.

Yay! You’re back!
I did a sketch from that picture once, only I messed up the perspective and made the side of his face too narrow. Yours looks great!

Thank you. I’m not 100% happy with it; the eyes aren’t quite right, and there are more mistakes. But all in all, I think it’s a decent attempt. I’m not so sure about George being the most difficult Beatle to draw anymore, though. I really struggled with this one! I must have erased and re-drawn his lips at least four times, not to mention the hair, shadows, jaw line…
On the up side, I am getting more confident using my fingers to soften the shadows. I think my last few drawings look a bit more natural because of the diffused shadows…

Some photos, I’ve found, are easier to draw than others. This one seems to be tricky.

I noticed that too. Your first few drawings were a bit… er… sketchy (no pun intended), but I didn’t like to say anything as that might just be part of your art.
I’ve gotten braver with shading lately myself; ’tis a very tricky thing and I’d far rather have too little than too much.

Well, considering the fact that I’ve only been drawing portraits for a few weeks now and have done less than a dozen so far, some sketchiness is permitted, I think. And it does work well in some cases. There are many styles to choose from, and I feel that some images, especially high-contrast ones, translate well in a more rudimentary style of drawing. I’ve got a fairly recent photo of Paul which I intend to draw, and that one would be perfect for charcoal. I’m still learning and I’ve got a long way to go. It’s rather a pleasant journey, though. A failed project is always disappointing, but the successful ones make up for it for sure.

@Beatlebug came up with a fun idea: both of us drawing the same photo. She sent me a lovely one of Paul, and I think it’s finished. I’m very much looking forward to her version, but I’m sure it’ll be fab!
Now, I don’t know why it does that, but my scanner really takes a lot of the beauty out of my drawings. I think the light is too harsh, because they always look much better in real life. But, a scan is better than nought, so here we go…

Thank you, @Beatlebug. In hindsight, I think the V1.0 had better potential, but I wasn’t sure I could fix the errors, so I started over. V2.0 doesn’t have the ‘soul’ the other one had, but I’m glad you like it. I love yours too!
I’m still waiting for my art supplies to arrive; hopefully Tuesday or Wednesday, and I’ll most likely give this one another go using tinted paper and possibly sepia or sanguine chalk. Or charcoal. Or graphite. Who knows.

Remembering George today. It’s pretty hard to take in that 14 years have passed since he left us…
Silly Girl and I are currently working on a George draw-off, but I wanted to do another one today. @Beatlebug did this one too, if I’m not mistaken, and did so very beautifully. I’m not sure mine is quite as good as that, but it was done with the best intentions and a lot of love.

Nice one @Mademoiselle Kitty >^..^<! However, I don’t think I’ve done that one… but thanks for the compliment anyway. I like the sepia tints.
LOVE his hair… you did a good job capturing it.

It must’ve been another one with the Farrah Fawcett hair, then. Looked really good on him too…
It’s actually graphite pencil on white paper, but the lighting makes it look sepia. I have sepia pencils and earth tone paper though; I’ll have to use it for a Beatley drawing some time.
Thank you for your kind words!

It should be visible now, @Starr Shine?. I deleted the original tweet, which contained the image URL. It’s one of my best drawings according to some of my friends, although I’m well aware I didn’t get the jaw line quite right. Somehow, his chin became more pointed during the shading process… The curve of his mouth is a bit off too, but George’s people must’ve liked it anyway, because they favourited the image. That’s my second George drawing to get noticed by his estate; not a bad score, eh?

The features may not be exact–it isn’t photo-realistic. But what you did in that drawing, @Mademoiselle Kitty >^..^<, is you captured the essence of Harrison–who George was as a person, as expressed through his features, just as Klaus Voormann did on Revolver .
That’s always my aim, not just Beatles drawings but all of my people-drawings.

Thank you, ladies. I pour a lot of love into my drawings, and all I can hope for it to have it show in the end result. I’m very critical of my own work, though. Perhaps too much so…

So, @Beatlebug and I have done another draw-off, and this time we did one in celebration of the Twelve Days of Crimble. I ran into some difficulties with mine. The paper I used was larger than the glass of my scanner, so I had to chop off the top of Paul’s head and some of his shoulder. (Sorry, Paul… ). I also seem to have just generally made a bit of a mess of it. But as I said to SG, I was distracted by Paul’s hairy coat and George’s abused top hat. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
Without further ado, here’s my version…

FAB, mate! I think you did a better job on George’s hat and Paul’s hair than I did, but I’ll let you judge for yourself.
