I don’t think Paul collects Beatles memorabilia. He has been known to buy unique items that have slipped out of his/their ownership over the years. For others they are Beatles memorabilia, but I’m sure for him he just sees it as he’s having to buy back parts of his past.

Is it possible to get ‘Wonderful Christmastime ‘ banned for the next 10 years so folk might become less fed up hearing it constantly over a 6 week period?
Any chance of pulling your finger out and getting Apple to release the Beatles christmas records officially?
News flash: They aren’t any better, other than the “Christmas Time Is Here Again ” single.

On that note, I can’t help but mention that he bought back a letter from John to Cyn (she had sold it, and the owner put it up for auction), had it framed and gifted to Cyn and Julian for Christmas. I thought it was very sweet, and very Paul. Cyn was touched enough to mention it in her autobiography 🙂

Hey, this one isn’t too bad. Surprise. Surprise.
A question from PaulMcCartney.com:
“Even though a recording does not change, we’ve found that our relationship to certain songs can often change their meaning as you grow up. For example, you relate to a lyric differently to when you first heard it. Do you ever find your relationship to your own songs altering from what you originally had in mind when you wrote them?”
We met up with Paul a couple of weeks ago to ask him and he explained,
“Yes, that happens all the time! When I wrote ‘Yesterday ’, I was in my 20s. So my ‘yesterdays’ covered quite a small period of time. Now the significance of the song seems even more striking because of the time that has passed since writing it, and the events that have happened in my life. I must admit, I really like this aspect of songwriting and playing.”
We’d never really thought about how long a yesterday might be…

Here’s the one for this month:
We couldn’t wait to ask Paul the question for this month’s ‘You Gave Me The Answer’. We genuinely had no idea what he might say and were very intrigued to find out! Let’s launch straight in…
Alexey in Russia asks: “What was the biggest – or one of the biggest – fears in your life and how did you overcome it?”
We spoke with Paul ahead of his Desert Trip performances to find out:
“Thank you for your question, Alexey. Biggest fears? When I was a kid it was just getting beaten up by a local gang. You know, that was a purely physical fear. Where I lived it was a hard estate and there were guys who if you saw them you would just go to the other side of the street. Because you knew they would just say, “Hey you, who you lookin’ at?” And there was no right answer! “You!” And they’re coming at you! “Not you!” And they’re coming at you! Performing, it was always the idea that the audience didn’t like you and you had to prove yourself. I think that’s why a lot of people get stage fright and get nervous. You think, “Oh my god, I’m gonna be terrible, they hate me, and it’s all terrible.” And so I think that was one of the earliest fears. I remember nearly giving it all up when we were doing a concert in Wembley – which was a Poll-Winners concert – in the really early days of The Beatles. And I remember feeling physically sick with a knot in my stomach thinking, “I should give this up, this is just too painful, what am I doing?” I got over it. And as you can see I didn’t give it up! So that’s two different kinds of fears.
PMc.com: “Do you still get stage fright now?”
Paul: “Not too bad. What I do is I always say to my promoter when a tour is coming up: “Put one show on sale and see how it goes.” And he’ll ring me back and say, “It’s sold out! Twenty minutes!” So I’ve got to assume that they like me. So it gives you a confidence and I think I can probably relax, they probably like me. And it means you can enjoy the show more.”
So there you have it, Paul had the same fears as us when we were little! Having never played Wembley as one of The Beatles, we’re not quite as sure we can relate to his performance fear!

Paul’s monthly Q&A has plumbed the depths and came up with one of the most boring even known, which is a hard effort going by some of the garbage over the months.
Melissa asks: “Of all of the photographs that you have taken, which is your favourite?”
Paul replied…
“That I’ve taken? [pauses to think] Hmmm, it’s probably the one of Linda on the cover of ‘Wide Prairie’. It’s a really nice picture of her wearing the Fair Isle sweater.”

Thought I’d update the thread with the last two entries.
September’s entry:

This month Paul’s ‘One On One’ tour went stateside as he and the band performed nine incredible shows across the Empire State and nearby Newark – a real New York takeover!
We can only imagine how exhausting it must be singing well around forty songs each night, never mind finding the time to hang out on and off-stage with long-time friends like Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel and Jimmy Fallon!
Paul often gets asked, “What’s your secret?” and, “Where do you get your energy?”to which the general response is usually good diet and exercise! Richard from England wanted to find out a little more detail, specifically in relation to Paul’s voice…
Richard asks, “How do you look after your voice, especially in the middle of a big tour?”
We caught up with Paul recently to find out:
Paul replied, “Thanks for your question, Richard. I have a couple of things I do before I go on stage, and I don’t even know if they work! But I do like – over a bowl of hot water – a steam. I do like a steaming before I go on, which I was told was probably the best thing to clear your larynx. I was taught that by watching Little Richard do it when we were kids in Hamburg. He used to do it before he went on. He’d get a kettle full of hot water in the sink, put a towel over his head, and [inhales] breathe in, get the vapours. So, I do that. It’s become part of my ritual and then I have a salt-water gargle. Again, I’m not sure if that does anything!”
PM.com: “This is all just before you go on?”
Paul: “Yeah, before I go on. Well, it’s in the hour before we go on. When I get told: “It’s time to go on!” I start that ritual and it involves those two things, which are specifically to do with the voice.
PM.com: “Have you done that ever since Hamburg?”
Paul: “No. But I remembered it since Hamburg and probably whilst I’ve been on tour with this band. So that’s like ten years. So yeah, the last ten years I’ve probably done it, and it’s become a routine.”
So there you have it, the now-not-so-secret rituals behind looking after one of the world’s most loved and recognisable voices!
October’s entry:

This month Paul headed out to Latin America as his #OneOnOne tour made its way to excited fans in Sao Paulo, Porto Alegre, Belo Horizonte and Mexico City. It’s a very busy time of year as Paul combines his touring schedule with a number of other exciting projects (watch this space!), but he still managed to find some time to sit down with PaulMcCartney.com back in London to answer a spooky Halloween-themed question…Audra in the US asks: “Do you believe in ghosts? Have you ever had any paranormal experiences?”
We caught with Paul just before he travelled to Brazil to find out:
“Thanks for your question, Audra. I would say no, not really. I’ve heard bumps in the night, but it’s usually the plumbing! You know, I’m a bit too practical so if I see something or hear something, I normally will reach for a rational explanation. I do know a lot of people who go, ‘Oooo!’ and think, ‘Oh, that must be something spooky!’ No, the thing is I’ve never seen a ghost so I can’t believe in them. I’m not sure. I’ve had all sorts of interesting sort of spiritual moments. I mean, I remember after Linda died, I was on a horse ride on my own. And I remember seeing a pure white squirrel and to me it seemed like that was a message from Linda – that was like Linda’s incarnation. So, I mean I’ve seen little things like that, but no ghosts.”

For anyone who hasn’t read Paul’s account of how he wrote ‘Yesterday ‘ in the 76,8764,936 places available you can do in his latest newsletter. I’m not wasting time quoting the question and answer session in here, the link to it if you wish to read. If you want to read something interesting then the back of your tin opener is the place to go instead.
