New was put out through a license with Starbucks record label Hear Music . . and with physical CD sales in decline and many box stores lessening their floor space devoted to CDs it makes plenty of sense to distribute physical copies to Starbucks as it is a daily ritual for many people but why not negotiate the deal so they only distribute the physical CD and then keep the digital and streaming revenues as he’d be able to easily put that out himself and have it available through all digital music outlets? I’m sure he has an attractive royalty percentage from them but digital sales by far outweigh physical sales and streaming is becoming even more of a piece of the market so if I were Paul I would want to retain that. Plus I don’t think Hear Music has the built-in connections with radio that other major labels have and I’m sure Paul would like to add another #1 record to his collection

Paul has a long term deal with the Concord Music Group (thats Hear Music and Starbucks) and they are the ones handling the ever so slow Archive Releases so they almost certainly will release Paul’s next album. ‘New’ did very well upon its released and Paul’s name, history and reputation will get his product out there so I doubt thats much of a concern and its not like Paul needs the money.

Joe’s article on the deal which contains the full press release.

Thanks for sharing that.

First time hearing about the Archive release, what’s going to be in that?

We’ve had about 8 so far since 2010; ‘Band On The Run ‘, ‘Ram ‘, ‘Pipes Of Peace ‘, ‘Tug Of War ‘, ‘Venus And Mars ‘, ‘Wings Over America ‘, ‘Wings At The Speed Of Sound ‘, ‘McCartney’ and ‘McCartney II ‘ – so nine unless i’ve forgotten one. Next up is ‘Flowers In The Dirt ‘ but when who knows. They are remastered editions of the albums with bonus discs featuring outtakes, demos, live tracks etc but its taking forever to get them. Nine in 6 years so far and there were reports at the beginning that all of Paul’s albums would get the treatment, something like 42 in total!!

Its a running joke which release is going to be the slowest in coming out; Paul final Archive release, ‘Let It Be ‘ on DVD or ‘Tune In’ volume 3 (Mark Lewisohn’s three-volume biography on the Beatles scheduled to be out in the year 2027 or near by).

Oh . . ya I know about those. I thought you meant a box set of unreleased music. “Seems Like Old Times” is one of my favorite unreleased songs of his I’ve come across so far

Wait . . ‘Tune In’ Volume 3 is going to be out in 2027? Is that for real or a joke? How am I suppose to get excited about a series that everyone is raving about as the best book if the it’s going to take me a decade to get to the end of the series

Txs for that, great articles by Joe that led me to YouTube and I watched the 11 minute RAM docu again that I hadn’t seen in awhile!  a-hard-days-night-paul-7

Unfortunately it also led me the 30 minute docu that I never knew existed:  Back To The Egg .  It was a TV broadcast to show the new album. ahdn_paul_01
