Wow, I didn’t realize Paul was so deep into the latest fashion sweeping Hollywood celebrities — TM or Transcendental Meditation. He participated in the celebrity extravaganza at Radio City Music Hall organized by TM devotee David Lynch. I thought Paul had more common sense than that…
Anywho, my question is, has Paul been into this ersatz worldview since the halcyon days at the ashram in India with the Mahareshi Mahesh (“Sexy Sadie “) Yogi? Or did he just lately get (back) into it?

I think Paul took what he needed from TM and uses it when required. He recorded ‘Cosmically Conscious’ for ‘Off The Ground ‘ in 1993, tho only a small excerpt is on the album, so it’s always been around.
Paul in the ‘Anthology‘ book, so early 1990’s.
I learnt how to meditate. I don’t meditate as much now, but I say to my kids that it’s not a bad thing to learn, because if you’re stuck somewhere or if you’re a bit disturbed, it is a great thing to do.

I wonder if Mike Love is a part of this. He nearly rivaled George with his TM obsession.

That’s the Paul I know and love — casual cock of the head; winsome, charmingly reasonable-sounding fence-straddling…

If you watch those videos I linked, you’ll see quite a few celebrities from Hollywood and the music world — including Eddie Vedder, Sheryl Crow, Donovan, etc. It really does seem to be, as Donovan would say, “the very next phase”.

I wonder if David Lynch has introduced Paul McCartney and Richard Beymer to each other. My world would explode.

Just something to consider…
In discussing TM shortly after being initiated in Wales, one of the Beatles said that he believed that all four of them had been given the same mantra by Maharishi and that it had the sound of an English word. If one reads up on how mantras are assigned by TM instructors, it comes down to two things: gender and age. When it comes to age, there are a number of age ranges, each has its own mantra. Since the four Beatles were very close in age, it would make sense that they all might have been given the same mantra. TM instructors are supposed to tell initiates not to share their mantras with other people, but I guess the Beatles ignored that direction.
Now, having said all that, if you read more about TM initiation, the mantra for folks in their age range was “ram”. True.
I find it interesting that Paul chose to name one of his albums, “Ram “. I wonder if there was any significance to this. Coincidence or was there a hidden reason?
By the way, I was initiated into TM in January, 1969. Since I am about 10 years younger than the Beatles, I can tell you that I was given a mantra entirely different from “ram”. Not even close. So not everybody receives the same mantra, except within their gender/age range.
