I just finally got my hands on the (in)famous Paul McCartney “Trevor Jones tapes” and have been listening to them this morning. The story behind these Trevor Jones tapes is interesting…I’d read in “Eight Arms to Hold You” that he had a collection of tapes that had gone up for auction after he died in 1998. He was Wings’ original roadie and was with Paul all through the 70s and 80s. The tapes are demos, outtakes, band rehearsals, etc. He had 45 cassettes of material…so far, only 3 CDs worth has been bootlegged (which I started going through listening to this morning), but when they leaked in 2010, it spurred on MPL to accelerate Paul’s archive releases in order to head them off…they were not pleased, but supposedly Paul didn’t bid on the tapes when they were up for auction because he didn’t know about it. There’s also speculation that someone from MPL leaked them since they were irritated at how long the archive release project was taking to get going and he/she did this as a way to jumpstart the process (but this makes no sense because if someone at MPL had access to them, then Paul owns them, and that’s not the case). Either way, fascinating story and I’m looking forward to delving into these! Anyone else here heard them? What did you think?
Here’s some more info for anyone interested: http://www.bigozine2.com/featu…..revor.html
So far I’m really enjoying them!

I’ve heard of them, but not heard them. However I seemed to remember there was another set I’d seen as well as the set you’re referring to. After a little hunt around there does seem to be – a 4CD/2DVD set called Trevor Jones Classified Part II. Thought you might be interested.

ARRGH I found the Bridge School Benefit from 1999 on that site (featuring Neal Young, Emmylou Harris, Greeen Day, and Brian Wilson, of just what I remember) and the links didn’t work anymore! So that’s disappointing.

Email the guy (ultimate.bootleg@gmail.com) and ask for a re-upload. Most of these bloggers are only too happy as the links expire without their knowning due to the sheer size of material on offer.
I did it at another site and the new link was up within a few hours.

@IveJustSeenAFaceo
I think the links are back up as someone has posted their thanks for the concert.

What is the protocol here? Should I use a spoiler for these kinds of observations? If so, I will edit this post and use the spoiler function and do so if I have other observations to make.
If Paul had gone with one of the alternate lyrics for Take It Away, @Funny Paper’s zignature would say something about customers instead of flowers.
Also from the Take It Away tracks, I like the part where Paul says “really simple like Buddy Holly chords”.

Post any observations as per normal i’d say. I doubt many folk are waiting to get these and dont want the experience ruined.
