Back on topic, I love how Paul writes the most effortless melodies that are so almost obvious that you hear them and wonder why no one else has written them yet…
Yes! John does this too
A huge part in this was they didn’t have The Beatles come before them and write up all the good songs.

@Beatlebug: Your post above reminds me of when Paul dreamt up the lyrics to Yesterday ,and then he asked a load of his friends if they’d heard of the song before
@hermagesty: You’re welcome. It’s so tough and hard to deal with when you have a special bond with someone, and then you lose that person from your life. It’s happened to me a few times now unfortunately,so I totally get where you’re coming from. As for McCartney II ,I agree completely. The guy is a genius. I love all of his albums, but I also love how he seems to be as a person, how he comes across in interviews, that he’s so down to earth, and has never forgotten where he came from. Knowing them as people is just as important to me as appreciating and enjoying their music. I like how you talked about humanising them in your post above. I can totally relate to that. I can’t imagine how difficult it must have been for them to have been caught up in all the craziness of Beatlemania. Yes it’s great to be rich and famous, but living in a goldfish bowl can’t have been too much fun. I always remember a quote from John, when he was asked if they could do normal things, like go to the cinema. John’s reply was “we can,but we have to wait for the lights to go down, and then we slip in”. He said it in a jokey way,but you could also detect the seriousness in what he was saying. Anyway, I’m rambling now,so i’ll sign off by echoing @Beatlebug,when she said she enjoys reading your perspective. I second that. Hope I haven’t bored you too much

@Father McKenzie You certainly haven’t bored me, and I’m glad my posts are appreciated. I have to be truthful, there isn’t really another band who’s personalities I really look at as much as the Beatles. I love a great many other bands and artists, but as far as reading about their lives, and trying to figure them out as people, the Beatles are kind of the only ones I’m super interested in. Except maybe Bowie. I don’t know a lot about him personally but I love his music equally as much as the Beatles, so I’m interested in reading more about his life and what he was like as a person. But I just haven’t gotten there with him yet. But the Fabs, I just feel this magnetic pull to read about them as people…always have since the music captured my heart when I was a kid.

@her_magesty: I know exactly what you mean. I’m the same. I want to know about every aspect of their lives and careers. They all have quite outgoing personalities, and all 4 led interesting and eventful lives away from ‘the band’,and I guess that’s why they appeal to so many people, and people of different age groups at that. They were special, and I’m not sure whether we’ll see anyone as good as them for a long time,if ever. The mix was just perfect with those 4

Same – I can’t seem to read enough about them. My shelves are full of books about them as a band and individually yet I crave more. This is why I am so impatient in waiting for Lewisohn to get his next edition out already.
When I read about Paul’s childhood, it comes as no surprise that his songs are, for the most part, happy. Losing one’s mother at such a young age could have devastated him. Yet his entire extended family was there to love, support and nurture him, his brother and father. The stories about their family parties and such remind me of my mother’s side of the family. Dad’s family are no slouches, but mom’s side has always been more fun than should be allowed. If you’ve ever been to a Polish wedding, you’ll know what I mean. Everybody polka!

Paul is promoting Egypt Station by playing a surprise gig at Abbey Road Studios. On the way, Mary filmed him crossing Abbey Road for some fans!:
More details here:
https://consequenceofsound.net…..ars-later/
I’d imagine this surprise gig is similar to like what he did with Chaos And Creation At Abbey Road except with Come On To Me, I Don’t Know and possibly a few songs we’ve yet to hear thrown in. If so, I’m jealous of the people at this gig because they probably get to see Paul play around with a Mellotron again!
EDIT: Great to read you were there, @Ron Nasty!

Getting back to what @sir walter raleigh said earlier about John’s journey being more bleak and depressing than Paul’s. I’m not sure that it really was but more to do with each man’s personality and how they reacted to events around them. John wore his heart on his sleeve and Paul is a stoic. Any dark periods in Paul’s life that we don’t know about is because Paul is unlikely to divulge them.

According to this Paul McCartney Setlist at Abbey Road Studios, 23 Jul 2018 reference, there was an interesting mixture of 25 songs, including four new ones.

Wow, looking good these days.
…Paul’s not too hard on the eyes either
/jest But seriously, when I saw @Ahhh Girl’s post I thought it would be a shirtless pic or something, so I was pleasantly surprised to see Paul fully clothed and lookin’ almost as handsome as his gorgeous D-28.
Edit: And WTF that CHORD SHAPE, what a showoff

He did it again. He made me stay up til half past two in the morning watching another live streamed concert (Austin City Limits) of his last night. On a Monday too. But like I said with the Grand Central Station one, it was well worth it! Some pleasant surprises of songs were thrown in the setlist for this one which I won’t spoil, but I will say I did enjoy the tributes to John, George and also Geoff Emerick, as well as the Hendrix/Clapton story!
