It’s a myth. Paul McCartney is alive and well! (Although his voice isn’t as spry as it was 30 years ago…) But, I think I have an interesting counter myth that may very well keep people entertained! The best part about this myth is that it doesn’t require Paul to be dead, and my so called evidence is just as convincing as the Paul is Dead myth, and in many cases more believable! So, feel free to add to the so called “evidence” regarding this completely made up myth for fun! It’s more fun when everyone joins in anyway.
So here’s my idea:
MAL EVANS WAS PAUL!!!
Let me explain. Mal Evans was the long time roadie and friend of The Beatles. He was there during every recording session, every tour, and every movie. He was by all accounts a sweet guy and an indispensable member of their entourage. But, why would they keep him around for so long after they stopped touring? After all, his job was only that of a ‘roadie,’ as evidenced in The Beatles Anthology. But they still kept him around. WHY, YOU MAY ASK??? Because MAL EVANS WAS PAUL!!!
Well, not really. He wasn’t actually “Paul McCartney .” Paul was indeed a friend of John’s, and they tried writing music together in the early days, but they really didn’t start making it big until they recruited a former bouncer from the Cavern Club…
Once Mal Evans was in the picture, the Beatles started making better songs. Why? Because Mal was the one writing all of the hits! He even played bass on all the records and taught Paul how to play them so as to keep up appearances. Why did they not simply allow Mal to join the band? Quite simply, he was a sweet and shy guy who didn’t want to go out and play in front of millions. His voice was not exactly as sweet as Paul’s was, either. BUT- He did learn to play bass, and from this taught Paul everything he knows! Since Mal was so sweet, he didn’t even want to take credit for the tracks, and even threatened to stop writing for them if they should oust him as the creative force. The Beatles even felt bad about leaving Mal out of the picture and put clues in their films and albums to try and clue in the audience. Don’t believe me? Just take a look at the ‘EVIDENCE!’
1. During one scene in A Hard Day’s Night , John is stopped by an actress in a hallway. While they are talking, Mal Evans walks between them carrying….A BASS!!
2. The opening shot of Let it Be shows Mal grabbing the drum head with the Beatles logo on it and taking it to the piano. What is he carrying in his other hand? A BASS!!!
3. It is widely known that Mal helped Paul McCartney come up with the idea for Sgt. Pepper . This was an accident! Somebody overheard Mal telling Paul his revolutionary new idea for a concept album. Later, they confronted Paul, stating that Mal had given him that idea! To cover it up, Mal pretended to be upset that he didn’t get any credit, so Paul gave him a little nudge so as to cover everything up.
4. During A Day In The Life , Mal can be heard counting off measure numbers so the Beatles can keep track, and then at the end he set off an alarm clock to show them where to come back in, or so the official story tells us. WHAT REALLY HAPPENED: Mal was counting, but he didn’t know he was being recorded! The Beatles added the alarm clock in after his counting to signify that Mal’s time had come, and they were about to recognize him as being the true creative force behind the Beatles! Following Brian Epstein’s death, however, they never got the chance.
5. During the Let it Be film, Mal is the one hitting the anvil during Maxwell’s Silver Hammer (He does this on the album version as well). This is the first time he is shown playing with the Beatles, but in reality it was their way of showing that he was the driving force behind the band, swinging the HAMMER of creativity! He’s even doing it on a so called ‘Paul’ song!!!
Well, that’s my evidence for the Mal Evans is Paul myth! Let’s see if we can’t get this myth popular enough to overtake the Paul is Dead myth! Add to the legend as you please, and remember, have fun!
NOTE!
Please be respectful of Mal Evans. By all accounts he was a sweet guy, and his death was premature and tragic. Please don’t make any references to his death or anything that degrades him. This is made for fun and amusement, so let’s keep it light hearted!!

I read somewhere (can’t remember where now) that in this pic, it’s not Paul. It’s Mal Evans filling in for Paul, who apparently went on holiday with Jane Asher to celebrate her 21st birthday.
Another theory is that it’s Bill Campbell, and the reason his back is turned is because people would suss it wasn’t Paul because of the scars on his face from plastic surgery.
All BS no doubt,but hey

Hmm, doesn’t look like Mal, but then I’m not an expert in Mal’s backside.

@TheWalrusWasBrian: hahaha . The theory went that the Beatles are using their hands to spell the word LOVE,and because you couldn’t see Paul’s hands,it meant that the band weren’t the original line up,and Paul had been replaced (in The Memoirs of Billy Shears book, supposedly written by the ‘replacement’,he assures the reader that he was forming the letter O with his hands, and he also says in it that While My Guitar Gently Weeps is George mourning Paul’s death, and the lines including the words diverted/inverted/perverted were aimed at himself ie Bill Campbell).
