me: “Paul, have you ever Zigged?”

Paul: “Well, there was this one time, you see. Me and John, we were working on this song. We had the paper there in front of us on the table, like that you see. We both had pens and we would each write down a line as it came to us. Then. I still laugh when I think about it. George, Ringo, and George Martin all broke wind at the same time in the studio. Me and John both Zigged on the paper with the lyrics. By the time we all quit laughing, the ink on part of the paper was all smeared. Neither John or me could remember the words we had written. So we said “Fook it. We will just put some aaahhhs in there and keep going. Perhaps you know the song? It’s called “A Day In The Life .””

…I have actually made eye contact and exchanged 2 words with him and managed not to faint but that’s for another thread!

I’d ask him which music he rated today, and why. Be interesting to know what he thinks of all the current rubbish in the charts. Although wasn’t he at a Beyonce concert not so long ago? Maybe he likes her soulless ‘music’. Maybe being a bit harsh on her, but I can’t like anyone who wears so much fur. Only John on the rooftop can get away with it (fur was acceptable in 1969!)

Ah, Hanna, you did tell us about seeing Paul in another thread. Thanks! Great story.

Going back to FP’s 1st post in this thread and your third point about today’s music: Many parents back in the 60’s didn’t like their children listening to your music or flat out wouldn’t let them listen to the Beatles. Are there any artists or songs you will not let Beatrice or your young grandchildren listen to?

What would you do if you found out within the next 5 years that Beatrice is hanging out with a guy that is like you were when you were 16-26? one who is attempting to “entertain” as many or more ladies than you did back in the day.

Do your grandchildren like the Beatles and Wings music? your solo stuff? Or do they say “Whatever, grandpa. I’m going to listen to (insert singer here).”

Why don’t we do it in the road?a-hard-days-night-paul-7 No one will be watching us. It will be our secret.

Do you ever have dreams about Linda?

Do you and John have a secret that no one else knows or will ever know because John took it with him to his grave and you will take it with you to your grave? I don’t want to know what it is. I just hope you two have at least one.

Wow, Ahhh Girl, great question! What are your ideas about what those secrets would be? Something about their relationship? Something about Stu? Something about Hamburg? Would love to give Paul some sodium pentathol and let him spill his guts! (Then, I might see if I could steal a kiss, but I digress).

I think there’s probably a lot of things we have no idea about. I hope so. I hope there were things they only shared with eachother, even if it was nothing that major.

This thread is making me sad now! John and Paul had such a complex relationship, more than brothers, lovers, friends, too beautiful to put into words. Sob. To cheer myself up

Is the ‘Can You Take Me Back’ bit at the end of ‘Mother Nature’s Son ‘ meant to be a separate song?

Don't you know? It's gonna be alright. (Shoo-bee-doo-wop)

I think it is, I believe there’s a longer version somewhere.

Didn’t mean to make you sad, Hanna. I wasn’t thinking in the vein of this being a sad thought. Interesting how things can impact people in such different ways.

I’m glad you are still a demure lady who blushes when that thought arises. I am so bad. I am way past blushing. I’d just sing this lyric of his back to him:

“Yes, like a rabbit, gonna grab it
Gonna do it ’til the night is done”

I think the secret(s) would be something we could never expect. That’s why it’s their secret. I really wouldn’t want to know the secret. It is part of their allure and charm. I hope that is ok with you mccartneyalarm. Don’t be mad at me, please.

I would like to ask the question this way. If his face goes white and sweat beads appear on his forehead, then I would know the secret exists.

Paul, was there a moment after something was said or done that you and John looked at each other square in the face with your heartbeats temporarily suspended and said “NEVER”? And, at that moment, your bond was so close you knew that the other would never tell.

You make me laugh Ahhh Girl!

Everyone has their secrets, I’m sure there were a few between John and Paul.

I’d ask Paul how he truly felt when John brought out How Do You Sleep? That song really conflicts me because on the one hand I like to listen to it cos it’s such a good song, but on the other the lyrics are so nasty against Paul it makes me sad (I seem to get sad a lot!) I know Paul wrote Too Many People first but that’s quite ambiguous, we wouldn’t know it was directed at John unless Paul confirmed it (which I believe he did) How Do You Sleep is a vicious character assassination attacking Paul on everything, from his music to his looks. On the brighter side I think John wrote it because he felt so betrayed by Paul, and really he wouldn’t have bothered if Paul wasn’t so special and important to him. Their relationship really did at times seem like a married couple going through a divorce and all the bitterness and rancour that brings.

My thoughts about HDYS are much the same as yours, so I’d like to know how Paul really felt as well. I think I can probably imagine though, anyway.

Sticking to a similar subject, I’d ask him how he managed to not answer back with something similar, or worse, that I’m sure the media would’ve loved (and turned into a massive Lennon-McCartney-against-eachother circus).

Wasn’t “Dear Friend” Paul’s response to “How Do You Sleep At Night”?  It was a plaintive sad response, not an angry one.

Then again, the screaming mumbo-jumbo of “Mumbo” may have been a response too, in a kind of primal way.

a-hard-days-night-ringo-8 And How Do You Sleep was John’s response to Paul’s Too Many People and Dear Boy . John and Paul were sniping at each in song and across the pages of NME and Melody Maker.

Why does he keep singing that song and thus keep dredging up memories of that dreadful time?

I know Paul did hit back in his own way, it’s just that Paul’s way of doing it wasn’t as obvious and publicly humiliating as John’s. John is my ultimate hero by the way and I’m not bad mouthing him, I just think John’s style was always more open and clear than Paul’s. The things John said in HDYS were just so nasty. “The only thing you done was Yesterday ” Now John, you know that’s not true! Paul must have felt unbelievably hurt by that. I think he valued John’s opinions so highly that that must have been a bitter blow and I think he has said that he began to question himself and whether he actually had much ability. For Paul to think that is a pretty big deal as he is not usually short of self confidence.

Loving the idea about calling his therapist! How would you like to be his therapist? Wow…don’t think I could stay professional with him so cute on a couch! Am also tempted to send Nancy a cheeseburger…and hope she goes into a closet to eat it!!! Seriously (or not) surely Nancy asked him the Beatles questions when they were dating….wonder what he told her that we’d all like to know….And, didn’t Heather have to sign a confidentiality contract to get her divorce? She might know some pretty interesting things about the band. For everything we do know about the Beatles, just imagine what we don’t know!

I should become his therapist! I do love psychology and it is one of my concentrations in college; however, I could see the strange looks on people faces if I told them I am going to school be Paul McCartney ‘s therapist.

Or maybe become a chauffeur. I will kidnap Paul for The Beatles Bible Board!

The cheeseburger and fur coat thing is quite hilarious, but I respect Nancy a hell of a lot more then the one legged pirate he was with. I do wonder what would happen if she ate a cheeseburger or had a fur coat how would he react.

Do you reckon Paul knows he’s so sexy that he’s got all these young women lusting after him? (Ok, I’m not that young, I’m guessing some of you are in your late teens/early twenties?)

I’m 23 (24 in a few months). Yeah its a bit strange I like someone older than my dad, but I do find him cute when he was younger. I mean he is still handsome for an old fellow.

Hullow?

Hello, Paul!

Um, hullow.  Who’s this…?

A big fan of yours.

Oh, well that’s grand, I could use a big fan right about now.  It’s really hot here in the airport in Louisiana — no aircon here at the moment.

[panics, gulps]

… Hi Paul…!

Hullow again…

[Paralysis of the jaw sets in]

Well, must dash –!  My ride’s here.  Nice chatting — whoever you are.

[Paul to his assistant, Reginald:]

Oh Reggie, make sure to change my phone number.

Right!

If he was in Louisiana I would try to be there in a heartbeat, depending upon which part of the state. If its in New Orleans, most likely cases it would be, I would haul ass down the interstate to get there. lol.

As for asking him questions if this were real life, I don’t know if I could, for I would probably turn to jelly.

What are his pet peeves? (Besides fur coats and cheeseburgers). Just wonderin’…….

I got to thinking about this again reading all the posts over on the pet peeves thread.

Have you and Nancy figured out each other’s pet peeves? Do you each avoid them at all costs? or are you the kind of couple that likes to push each other’s buttons to see just how strong your love really is?

Heaven help the man if you did bring him to us.

The pirate comment goes quite well with it being talk-like-a-pirate day. Well played, sky090909.

We understand how you feel about his looks. You are safe with us on this thread. Paul isn’t, but you are.
