Just rolled into work, busy day ahead, and I’m exhausted! I’m still on a euphoric high after last night! I’ll write up a proper review later this week but for now, first here was last night’s set:
Junior’s Farm
Listen to What the Man Said
Let Me Roll It /Foxy Lady
Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five
Mrs. Vandebilt
Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!
Back in the U.S.S.R.
Encore:
Encore 2:
Lots to write later, but off the top of my head:
-During Live And Let Die , there were huge bursts of flames and fireworks(!) that went off in the middle of the song and at the end…it was amazing! I posted a pic on my twitter (@blackbookblur) but it doesn’t do it justice
-Not gonna lie, I cried several times, during Here Today , Something , Blackbird , and Hey Jude
-After the 4th song, he took his jacket off, rolled up his sleeves, and said “THAT is going to be the ONLY wardrobe change tonight!” It was all about the music.
-Paul alone onstage playing acoustic on Here Today , Blackbird , Yesterday was incredible…dead silent with 30,000 people quietly singing along while he played and sang them flawlessly
-He very simply said “I wrote this one for Linda” before starting Maybe I’m Amazed …again, I wept
-After the ~3rd or 4th song: “You guys are the new house record for Fenway Park! *cheers from crowd* Know who we beat to set that record? *silence* OURSELVES!”
-Some person upfront held up a sign saying “I have my original 1966 Beatles tour banner” to which Paul said, “Sorry, that was before my time!”
-The massive crowd singalong during Hey Jude was simply amazing!
-Everyone was pogo jumping during the double-time end to Mrs. Vandebilt, including Paul!
-The 3-way guitar battle at the end of The End was fab
-“This one is for all the Wings fans” was how he introduced Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five…so good!
-He told a REALLY funny story about watching Hendrix in the late 1960s when Jimi good-naturedly ribbed Eric Clapton (who was also in the audience)
-Some of the footage/photos behind him during some songs were just brilliant. For example, the Beatles from the MMT film during Your Mother Should Know , pics of Paul and George together from throughout their lives during Something , pics of Paul and Michael with their mum and Linda with his girls/James during Your Mother Should Know , etc
-He played his original Beatles-era Hofner bass, Epiphone Casino, and Epiphone Texan acoustic (the one with the Detroit Red Wings sticker) for most of the songs. He also played his psychedelic painted upright piano that he wrote on in Cavendish Avenue during the 60s. (he also played his colorful Les Paul, a sunburst Les Paul, a Martin acoustic, and what looked like a Gibson 12-string acoustic)
-Paul’s voice sounded UNBELIEVABLE!!! The man sings all of the songs in the original keys and STILL sounds flawless
-The band is INCREDIBLE…that’s what playing together for over a decade will do
-At the very end of the show, massive confetti cannons shot out from in front of the stage. I managed to catch some, and even 30 minutes later outside Fenway Park, it was raining down on us!
I’m still grinning ear-to-ear…just unbelievable. Hard to fathom he just turned 71 (when I told my mum that after the show, she couldn’t believe it, she still thought he was in his mid-60s! ). I’ll write up an even more detailed review later but it was just the best. THE BEST!
He got rave reviews in the Boston papers, too:

Aw, thanks . I’m still literally shaking with excitement over it. “Magical” is so cliche, but in the case of last night I don’t think it is, I think it’s just stating the fact. I’ve never had an experience like that, ever, and I’ve been to some fantastic shows in my life.

I’m uploading the 120 pictures I took to a Flickr album…I’ll share the link later.
Also, I managed to find a bootleg of the show already! If anyone is interested, I can share it out? I plan on downloading it when I get home from work later today so it won’t be until then

So fun to read DrBeatle and Ontherun! Brings back great memories from my November/12 show. I too have been to many, many live shows over the past many years and I think Paul has ruined any future shows for me. The McCartney show experience is “magical” My God , you are seeing a BEATLE live!! Can’t wait to read more…..

Here are my photos: they got worse as it got darker and the lights got brighter. Also we were much closer than these suggest even though I had my camera on full zoom. Still, enjoy!

Interesting: from Dr. Beatles’ song list, it looks like Paul only sang one Lennon-sung song — “Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite”. I wonder if that is a particular favorite of Paul’s among John’s repertoire?

Yeah, that was the only Lennon-sung song he did, and he also did Something (George, obviously). Although interestingly enough the PA music at the beginning before the show started consisted of remixes and covers of Paul, Wings, and Beatles songs as well as John’s “Power To The People .”

Thanks for sharing DrB.
I so wanted to go to that show last night, but could not justify the ticket prices being charged by the ticket brokers. If I am going to see Macca live, I want to be able to smell his pre-show meal on his breath. StubHub was asking for up to $1800 for those types of seats.
For now, I will live vicariously through those of you who have seen this tour!

GREAT review and pic’s. I thoroughly enjoyed reading that
It’s funny that Paul use’s a lot of the same lines in his concerts. I thought he might mix it up a little? His “that is the only wardrobe change for this evening” was also used at our concert back in November. As well as the story about Eric Clapton and Jimmy Hendrix, the “this one is for the Wings fans out there” before starting Nineteen Hundred & Eighty Five, etc. I guess he just sticks with what he knows? Interesting…..
Thanks again for sharing DrBeatle! Great review, great pic’s!

Aw, thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed it…I love to write anyway, but writing that made me think about it (plus I was listening to the bootleg of it as I listened) and kept me on the high I’ve been on since
I knew about most of his canned bit of banter going in, and I thought it would annoy me but it didn’t one bit.

Seems plausible since the album SPLHCB is often in Paul’s playlist, as well as other albums by the Beach Boys as I can recall.
