August is 6 weeks or so away so hopefully Paul has fully recovered by then Mimi. I wouldn’t worry about it just now, just delight in having a ticket and are getting to see Paul live. If you are on facebook you could send Paul a get well soon message.

Update on Paul from Examiner
The May 20 edition of “Good Day New York” gave a surprise update on Paul McCartney and his health problems. According to Barbara Pazmino, co-anchor Greg Kelly got the ball rolling when he said it was surreal to sit next to fellow co-anchor Rosanna Scotto, who has been longtime friend of Paul’s wife Nancy Shevell.
When he told Rosanna that it had been on news wires that Paul had to cancel shows because he had a virus, Rosanna said, “Oh wait, let me check how he is.” She got right in touch with Nancy, who said Paul was doing OK and just needed to rest and recover.

That’s good news at least! Not to be morbid, but at his age, these things are more serious than when you’re younger. As healthy and active as he is, he’s still 71 (72 next month!). Good to hear he just needs some R&R.

Anyone know Japanese? The Google translation is pretty clunky, and potentially and unnecessarily worrying.

Shouldnt have read before going to bed.
Seems to say Paul was admitted to hospital as a precautionary measure and he might be coming back to London to recover at home.
A lack of sources and nothing elsewhere on the net is confusing tho as it would be big news if Paul had been taken to hospital.
A quote from a new Daily Express article – “a source close to The Beatles legend assured the Daily Express: “It is nothing serious.””. Reminds me of Ringo’s illness a good few months back.
Get well soon Paul.

^^ @meanmistermustard Well, if you need a good laugh, the bad translation also implies that Paul flew to Korea, gave a concert in a hospital, then flew back to Japan, leaving me with an image of Paul in an open-backed gown playing guitar.

My google translate doesnt bring that up. Only mentions of Korea are the concert being cancelled and that Paul had planned to fly there straight from Japan on the 26th.

Someone posted a better translation of the article:
“On the 21st, I found out that ex-Beatle Paul McCartney , 71, who canceled all his performances in Japan due to a viral inflammation, has been admitted to a hospital in Tokyo. According to sources, Paul has been suffering from symptoms including vomiting and diarrhea due to viral inflammation since May 16th, the day after he arrived in Japan. He had been resting in a Tokyo hotel, but after a thorough examination yesterday, the 20th, it was decided he should be admitted to the hospital to be on the safe side.
Details about a discharge or the diagnostic results were not disclosed, nor was there any information about the possibility of surgery. In addition, the cancellation of a Korea performance on May 28th was also announced yesterday. In two months, McCartney is scheduled to perform a 19 city tour in the United States. There is no word on the U.S. performances at the moment, but a source said that if Paul had not recovered by that point his schedule would be cleared.
Though Paul gave a cheerful smile upon arrival in Japan on May 15 (photo), by the 16th he complained of ill health and it was announced in quick succession that he would postpone all four performances in Japan, including concerts at the Nippon Budokan and the National Stadium. Paul was originally scheduled to leave Japan by May 26 to perform in Korea, but that departure date is also up in the air, though he’s expressed a desire to return to London as soon as possible. Paul’s wife Nancy, 53, is in attendance at the hospital.”

Personally, I’m more comforted than worried by the fact they admitted him to the hospital to be on the safe side. If he’s losing fluids, he would need to be on an IV drip.
Also, as Steve from the Examiner stated, none of this has been officially confirmed.

Its definitely better he is getting treated in a hospital if he has a serious viral infection.
I suppose until there is something official all we can do is wait, no point in speculating.

Yes, I’ve seen that he was in the hospital. There are photos of Japanese women holding Paul stick thingies (fans?) with his anime face on them, standing outside.
I read an article that says throughout his career Paul has cancelled 51% of his Japanese concerts.

I just read an “unconfirmed” but “credible” report elsewhere that Mary and Stella have flown over to see him? This can be taken one of two ways: they just want to see that he’s ok and visit him (and they’ve certainly got the money and time to do so) or that it’s more serious than we think. Here’s praying it’s the former.

My guess/hope is it’s just one of those nasty norovirus type things that knocks you on your ass for a couple of weeks but is nothing some bedrest and relaxation won’t clear up. Fingers crossed!
