We all know how great of a bassist Paul is, and how he liked to experiment (famous example, the “fuzz bass” on Rubber Soul ), but it occurred to me that I’ve never heard Paul try out the “slap bass” technique. For those who don’t know what I mean, they can listen to, for example, how Larry Graham used it when he was with Sly and the Family Stone, or Paul Jackson in Herbie Hancock’s band, or… the Seinfeld theme (and the musical segues between scenes on every episode).
P.S.: On that last note, I learned to my disappointment that the Seinfeld snappy bass was really done on a keyboard.

I’ve never heard Paul slap, but a lot of other bassists don’t either. I’ll just leave this here though:

Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe. This has been true for 2016 & 2017 but I may have to get more specific in the future.

He did, although on few occasions.
1. Pretty Little Head
2. Sweetest Little Show
3. No More Lonely Nights (intro, it should be him, but I’m not 100% sure)
4. Good Times Coming
Other tracks like Hey Hey, Keep Under Cover have Stanley Clarke doing it, and Silly Love Songs (Broad Street version) has Louis Johnson.

I just listened to Pretty Little Head. That doesn’t sound like a bass but a keyboard simulating a snap bass.
I’m sure Paul could play bass like this, but the question is, why doesn’t he try it, at least just once? —
Now today I find, you have changed your mind

So nice to see Herbie and Sly show up on this forum every now and again!
The idea of Paul developing a slap technique feels out of character for me, since he’s only occasionally touched on hard funk, and his normal way of playing is mostly all about melody more than percussive emphasis.
