The funny thing is when I listen to these albums “for the first time” I'm like … “I have heard this before but when?”.
Well, that happened with Band On The Run . It was natural to me to listen the songs in that order, and when the album ended with Nineteen Eighty-Five I was like “WTF? Why this albums sounds familar if I haven't heard it?”. I mean I have heard the songs but not in the order they're in the album.
When my sister came over, I asked her “Did you have Band On The Run when you were in college?” and my sister (who was a Wings fan) “Sure I did. But one of the m*9#=”$ of of my boyfriends stole it”.
So I listened to that album when I was only 3, that's why it's imprinted in my memory. I bet when I get Wings At The Speed Of Sound I'm going to have those flashback moments as well.

Didn't he just release the remastered version of Band On The Run ? Is there any quality difference between the original and the remastered version?
(Re: mith – I hate when you think you recognize a song and can't focus on anything until you remember where you heard it before. This happens to me all the time, at least.)

Yeah I hate that…. the problem is that I was too young to learn the names of the songs… so when I hear or read a song's name I'm like and then I listen to it and I'm like
and yes, I got the remastered version. I haven't heard the bonus CD audio neither seen the DVD.

Have you had a go at the bonus materials yet? I was debating whether to buy the set or just buy the single CD and use the saved money for other albums. I think I have enough box sets for now and am leaning toward more single CD's.
I'd be curious on your opinion of the bonus stuff just in case.

Not yet, but thanks to remind me!! I'll check it out now!
Edit : I've been watching the DVD and to be honest, unless you're a hardcore Paul & Wings fan, this DVD is not a “must”. Pros : Nice videos, and the best IMHO Abbey Road recording footage. Cons : Long home videos from Band On The Run photo cover shooting.

Thanks to both of you. Looks like it'll be the Band On The Run CD along with All Things Must Pass .

Okay, the great things about Wings was it grounded Paul. If you look at, say, Pipes Of Peace , there are great songs (Pipes Of Peace , The Man, The Other Me, Say Say Say) and some bad (Tug of Peace, others.) So Wings made him always get the opinion of the other members. He didn’t have that as a solo artist. BUT, and this is important, I say he made quite a bit of great music pre and post Wings. Memory Almost Full , Tug Of War , Flowers In The Dirt and McCartney.

The EXACT same thing happened with me. I dug out Band On The Run from my dad's CD cases last year, and popped it in in the car. Band On The Run comes on first, that has me smiling of course, but then Jet comes on. Now I may or may not like that song…Any guesses? Anyway I think HEY I know this from somewhere… And then goes Bluebird and I get this distant memory of my mom singing that to me. This goes on and on with every song. So I talk to my dad when I get home, and I explain that it's the oddest thing, but I feel like these songs have been embedded in my brain, and for some reason I associate them with blue chairs… “Oh YES. We used to listen to that in our old motorhome on trips when you were 5! All the seats were blue. I don't think we've listened to that album since then!”
So THAT was the start of my musical education. Interesting that I should remember it more than a decade later…
I have the remaster but havent compared the audio quality side by side.

The same thing always happens to me with Anna (Go To Him) from PPM . I always get a fleeting flashback to my old house when I was like 3

I just got Band on The Ru (with the DVD, Bonus CD, and regular CD), and Memory almost Full (Regular CD, and DVD)…Memory almost Full is a great one!! I'd have to say I like it just a little more than Band On The Run .

I just thought I'd remind everyone that Band On The Run is awesome. And I love the stutter halfway through the riff on Let Me Roll It . Has anyone heard that anywhere else? I thought it was quite innovative.

The sad thing is I own only bits and pieces of Macca's solo work (thanks to iTunes), but I do have a live album (Back in the U.S.) that has a fair amount of his solo work/work with Wings. I've been meaning to purchase Band On The Run for ages now, and I'm addicted to the title track.
*17* Paul wants me to purchase it, too…

I got the Band On The Run 2 disc as it was only £2 more than the single cd. The bonus tracks are that great, apart from Country Dreamer, a mccartney gem. Tho none of my family can bare Jet .
Overall i prefer the wings catalogue to his solo output. Flowers In The Dirt was a great return to form after the mediocre Pipes Of Peace and the abysmal Broad Street (1 worthwhile song) and Press To Play (nothing at all). Shamefully it only lasted for that 1 album.
As for Wings, Speed of Sound is a fave due to the vocals by the other band members, i like all the songs that Denny sang lead on throughout Wings.
But yes, Wings was Pauls backing band. Democracy wasnt the way of the band. Didnt one of the guitarists (i forget who) quit because he wanted to do alternate solos each night for My love in concert and Paul said no.

Okay, devil's advocate. Look at Chaos and Creation, Memory Almost Full , Electric Arguments, Good Evening NYC. I've heard most of Paul's work, and there is no drop of quality I can trace to Wings. Because Wild Life sucks.

I found Memory Almost Full to be a bore with nothing going for it at all. However any change of liking Memory was drained by the trully awful drivel of Dance Tonight. The song i chose to use as my break when seeing Paul live last year. Hated it the first time i heard it, never grew on me, saw the video, hated it more.
I love Wild Life tho. Strange how opinions change.
I really need to get Chaos and Creation but cant find any enthusiasm to do so. I was one of the ones who bought Driving Rain full price. Any one who did deserves some slack.
There were moments on Flaming Pie that were classic macca.
