Does anyone know the reason why Paul will not perform Uncle Albert live ?

Monsieur, monsieur, monsieur, how about another one?

Is that he won’t or that he hasn’t? There are plenty of songs he hasn’t performed live.

Maybe due to the sound effects of the thunder in the background, or any other the other sound effects. Maybe.

With being one of Pauls first big hits post Beatles, I am surprised it has never been attempted live.

Monsieur, monsieur, monsieur, how about another one?

Well, it’s Paul’s show, but who knows the reason. I could try to research and see if anything pops up.

Paul was thinking of performing it live on the 1989/90 World tour and rehearsed it with the band but “wasn’t happy with the results, and, also due to the fact that the tracked seemed very difficult to perform, gave up on the idea. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone* McCartney confirmed “People keep requesting ‘Uncle Albert ‘. It’d be great to do, but its a little challenging to learn, ’cause these are not twelve-bars. But once you get them, and once you do them right, they kind of feel like twelve bars. That’s the trick””.

Paul seems to be strangely un-ambitious here.  With his resources and motivation (and his Nazi control over musicians) he could pull it off.  He could make the song into a stage show — putting on a yellow mac and a funny nose for his Uncle Albert part (kettle’s on the boil) and an Admiral’s hat for other parts.  And he could have a team of technicians arrange thunder and lightning and a drizzling downpour — and backup singers wearing sailor costumes.

“In one performance, the audience was treated to the joyous surprise of unexpected guest Ringo joining the song in a Yellow Submarine , next to Beyonce as the Octopus.”

Heh, I liked this. I admit I was shocked that he did Being For The Benefit Of Mr Kite ! live and singing, it’s not an easy bassline to sing over at all. Perhaps he was trying to prove a point to get songs like Uncle Albert up.

True – but concerts are always more fun when the performer pulls something unexpected out of the bag for long-time fans. The one thing I like is when groups like U2 sing the ‘usual stuff’ at their concerts but also pull some ‘deep cuts’ out to surprise us all; Neil Young is particularly good at staying relevant by doing that.

@Necko, you might want to check out Joe’s blog post on the song. https://www.beatlesbible.com/p…..al-halsey/

I think if he had wrote this a few years earlier, it could have gone on Sgt Pepper or MMT. Anyone else?

Its a little to Paul to be a Beatles Song. Hugh McCracken’s guitar work is phenomenal, but it is very different from what George would have done on it. In fact, I don’t think there is much space for a George solo on the song.

Plus I like the silly sound of Paul and Linda singing together, something we couldn’t have heard from The Beatles. They would have arranged tight harmony for the “heads across the sky” part.

Honestly I think it would sound great on Sgt. Pepper , but that song is as Ram as it gets, and I believe it belongs in the mood of that album.

Would’ve fit better on the White Album or Let It Be than Sgt Pepper .

Hmm, can’t see how it would fit on LIB at all. (But “Across The Universe ” doesn’t fit on that album either, so I guess that’s a kind of justification.)

Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

I’d put / merge in  Uncle Albert /Admiral Halsey in place of She’s Leaving Home , my least favourite song on Sgt Pepper . It has a concept album feel to it IMO.
