I didn’t see that MMM had already posted a YouTube video, but you can buy it in the UK at iTunes.
I rather like it. Paul’s singing and playing keyboards on it.

Pitchfork article with a press release. Makes me appreciate the song more.
In early 2014, Paul McCartney and Kanye West first began working together in a small bungalow in Los Angeles. The process that would result in “Only One” began with a simple brainstorming session between the two: With McCartney improvising on the keyboards and Kanye vocally sketching and shaping ideas in a stream-of-consciousness riff.
When they played back the recording afterward, something remarkable happened. Kanye sat there with his family, holding his daughter North on his lap, and listened to his vocals, singing, “Hello, my only one . . . ” And in that moment, not only could he not recall having sung those words, but he realized that perhaps the words had never really come from him.
The process of artistic creation is one that does not involve thinking, but often channeling. And he understood in that moment that his late mother, Dr. Donda West, who was also his mentor, confidante, and best friend, had spoken through him that day.
“My mom was singing to me, and through me to my daughter,” he said, astonished.
The small group in the room kept listening: “Hello my Only One…just like the morning sun…you’ll keep on rising till the sky knows your name.”
To some, Kanye’s insight didn’t immediately register. But then he explained: The name Kanye, which his mother had chosen, means “only one.”
And then it dawned on everyone there: Something powerful and undeniable had occurred through the power of music and of letting go. A message had been passed down through generations.

^ That is pretty nice, I thought it was gonna be full of fake beats and some rapping , overall pleasant but couldn’t hear Paul !
I can’t either, I guess it’s just the humming in the background but it’s vocoded or something? I did enjoy his keyboard playing. Reminded me a lot of when I was little and my dad would play on his while writing songs.
I’m not a big fan of Kanye, but I won’t be a hater. It’s nice and the story that @parlance posted was quite touching.

I think it’s great. Love McCartney’s keyboard playing especially at the end.

Reminds me of “Scared” off New. Really like the keyboard as the song fades out.

You’re right; didn’t see that. (Searched “Only One” and didn’t see anything come up.)

Examiner article on the song.

I moved some posts over here so now @parlance’s post is on the top of this page and not in it’s original context so I am adding this: the song she is talking about is “Only One” with Kanye West.

I do not know if any of you heard of this, but it shocked me that Paul McCartney did a track with Kanye West. I hate rap, and especially Kanye, I just want to hear your opinions on it. Also, what really got me was that most teens have never heard of him.

The thing that really bugs me is that his fans never heard of him. I mean you do not need to like Paul’s music, but do not be so ignorant. How stupid. One of the comments are, “Oh, I really like how Kanye really boosted this new artist’s career.”

As I have admitted here, there, and everywhere on the forum, I didn’t know who PM was until recently when I was in my mid-forties. I wish more people did know who is is (because he is brilliant and sexy), but it really irks me that the numb skulls didn’t do a bit of research and find out who he is before spouting off on the internet.

I only heard about him just before the concert, and I had no idea I’d be interested in him. I was smart enough to not spout off my ignorance and say that he was a new artist. Not knowing about someone is not a bad thing. Not doing a little homework before making silly statements is what bugs me about what they did.

You did ask in the modern music thread if he was considered modern because of his album in 2013.
Well it could have been worse. They could have completely insulted him. Maybe they’ll appreciate his music. If not, well thats their lost. They can stick to Kanye. They have made fools of themselves. So be it.

True. I did not think of it that way, but it is just rap and Paul’s style did not match for me. I hate rap, but hey, maybe Paul found a way to make it better.
