That site is what I used to learn it. I converted it to piano and it matches pretty well. I have not played it much on guitar since then.

If children are studying the 20th century, I'm in their text books.

Love the song. So unique in his catalogue. Also Screamin Jay Hawkins covered it one of the founding fathers of screamers. I swear Jay messed up some of the lyrics though hard to tell lol.

Thanks for the input!  I tried a few versions and this sounded the closest to my ear. Yeah I did the same accept was playing on my Yamaha CX1S synth on the piano setting. Might attempt a cover.

been looking for something like this for ages [I’m not good enough to play by ear blue-meanie], wish I was sat on the piano at the moment. Thanks for the link, keeping it for future reference :)

Isolated vocals by Paul and Linda. This is worth a listen.

Its an unbelievably awesome vocal by Paul and Linda’s contributions are spot-on (as they were so frequently in Wings). ‘MMD’ broken down into isolated tracks is amazing; the piano track is incredible, the bass and drums have such a groove together and the guitar is so swirly.

How did these tracks come to light? AFAIK the song has never been on Guitar Hero or Rock Band, the usual route. I know McCartney has released a few stem files and surround mixes (listed at the bottom of this page), but I don’t think MMD is among them.

Monkberry Moon Delight was one of four tracks put up on Paul’s site which you could mess around with and make your own mixes. I grabbed the isolated MMD when it was uploaded somewhere by someone but now only have MP3 files as I lost a back up hard drive.

Not sure if the other three but I think two might have been Band On The Run and Maybe I’m Amazed . Can’t remember.

That vocal isolation is fun. Everytime I hear this song, I go into a daydream about where I would like to be while consuming a large quantity of Moonberry Moon Delight.

On a more *sober* note, when I hear the “catch up, don’t get left behind” part, I think of McCartney sitting in his studio creating songs that will keep him up with the changing times. I relate it to Alligator on his New album…”everybody else is doing better than me…”. He doesn’t want to fade into obscurity and irrelevance.

We could be sitting on a front porch sitting in rocking chairs, swiggin’ some MMD…out of Mason jars.

I love his double use of phonetics. The lyric is actually “Ketchup (ketchup). Soup and puree (soup and puree). Don’t get left behind.” It’s kinda the same wordplay John used in ‘Please Please Me ‘. It still plays into your analogy, though.

Agreed. I may be in the minority, but I like Linda’s backing or harmony vocals whenever they appear.

Yes, love this song.  I’ve played along with my rinky-dink bass strings to this song probably 317 times over the years.  I especially like that climax-building descant of the bass notes/chords during certain junctures:

Cm — Bb — A — Ab — G7 — back to Cm

While all the singing is great, there’s one little moment of about 35 seconds during his various scat dabblings in the long ending that to me sounds almost Mozartian.  Here’s a tube chop (which I end immediately after the almost orgasmic “AAAAAHHHHHHHHH, MONKBERRY DELIGHT, YEAH YEAH!!!!!!!! that follows on its heels).

The isolated voice version is interesting, in many ways.

One thing that surprised me, which I had never heard in the hundreds of times I’ve listened to the song regularly:  Linda’s backup at one point goes (to approximate):

buh-doo-BAH, buh-doo-BAH… BAH-bah-doo

I had never heard those little “buh-doo” frills before…!

a coffee dessert, yes you know it's good news...

Moonshine, mason jars, mountain view, many words of friendship shared. I’m there.

Funny, I knew the word was Ketchup. The other meaning took over my brain when I made that post. But, yeah, it is cool that Macca used the double meaning.

For the group photo, they probably used the worst Paul pic they could find because he is so much prettier than them.
