‘London Town’ is the title track and opening song on Wings’s penultimate album. See more…
The song was started in Perth, Australia, during the Wings Over The World Tour in early November 1975.
Linda and I were sitting in the hotel in Perth, which is a big Sheraton hotel… And we came up with the opening lyrics. Then it hung around for a little while. I just had that first bit. Then I wrote another little bit when I went to Mexico on holiday. Then I got together with Denny in summer 1976 in Scotland. We sat up, we finished it all.

This is one of those “uninspired” songs. You can feel the lack of inspiration in the very first line. It’s like Paul was sitting around, “Hey I’ve got a cool title, ‘Cafe on the Left Bank’… I’ll put that in the lyrics, I’ll start the song off with it. Now, let’s see, how should I sing it…” And what we get is what we have. Just listen to that first line. It sounds like someone who lacked inspiration trying to squeeze out a melody for that line. From that inauspicious start, the rest of the song follows suit.
Now today I find, you have changed your mind
