‘How Many People’ is the eleventh song on Paul McCartney’s eighth solo album Flowers In The Dirt. See more…
Me in Jamaica, on holiday. You can’t help going reggae, everybody is, the climate is. I’ve been a reggae fan since the early Tighten Up albums… this very simple song called ‘How Many People’ came out. I thought it was too simple.

I’ve had a soft spot for this one since my dad inflicted it on me years ago (I think he had this album as a teenager). It’s just so damn catchy,* and Paul’s vocal intro is genuinely gorgeous.
*This is a recurring theme with Macca’s work

Perfect case in point to my recent rant about later McCartney. When this album came out — already a few disappointments after Venus & Mars — I had already resigned myself to no longer being a McCartney fan in the ongoing, excited-to-get-the-latest-album sense — and my jadedness was wearily confirmed, whereby this one song was the only good one of the bunch. The “exception that proves the rule” is not a firm basis for ongoing fanship…
Now today I find, you have changed your mind
