That’s true. I guess collaborations are helpful because you can consult the other person and are writing for a greater cause. I guess it depends on the band and how much they did collaborate.
Agreed. For his track record, though, it was a good choice (or reckless, depending). If you were an artist, would you ever cover a Beatles song or sing one in public?

I wouldn’t sing one of the popular ones. I might though after I become successful with my original work. Having your first hit be a cover could turn you into a one hit wonder really quickly.

The only reason I ever paid attention to this song was because Paul was part of it. I was sad to see that Paul didn’t even sing in it, and instead we got the other two as singers. So in conclusion, the song is eh. There are lots of worse songs, but also lots of better songs.

Someone upthread asked what FourFiveSeconds means…
She’s left, in a big blur of partying and drinking ,four, five seconds from wildin’ (hardcore letting loose at a party, or does it mean close to a breakdown?) . She’s had enough, I guess, with her lover, who tends to take her kindness for weakness and to me doesn’t appreciate her speaking her mind. Her upset lover (Kanye here) is awaiting her return home (“Woke up an optimist, sun was shinin’, I’m positive. Then I heard you was talkin’ trash, hold me back, I’m ’bout to spaz.”) She knows he’s tried to call asking where she’s been and etc. She’s unapologetic about the things she’s said to him. Asks him to promise to pay her bail if she ends up in jail. And apparently she’s trying to make it back home by Monday morning. But this song, to me really sounds like a “this relationship is on the verge of a breakdown and I need to drink” song. I dunno, best I could do by the lyrics. LOL
Anyway, I’m not a fan of Rihanna’s caterwauling at all. Paul might as well not even exist here, as he got lumped in with four, five other writers (ha see what I did there?) anyway. He does a little acoustic guitar figure in there. Also I THINK there’s a little chirpy, distorted voice in there that’s him? I dunno.
As far as collaborations go, I prefer the one Paul did with Nirvana (Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, Pat Smear) “Cut Me Some Slack”. That thing rocked my face off.

What do you make of this story?
snippets from the article
Albarn got heated over what he says was an “abusive” collaboration between Kanye West and Paul McCartney ,
accused Kanye of milking the former Beatle for his work. “Do not get me started on Kanye West. Kanye West trapped Paul McCartney ,” claimed Albarn. “I have a problem with this abusive collaboration: we’re talking about Paul McCartney , but he’s so precious! Kanye West thinks only of Kanye West, using a name to make headlines, saying ‘McCartney is in my song.’ In addition, he puts McCartney in the video of the song, but not in the song itself.”
Albarn reportedly even went so far as to try and warn McCartney about Kanye’s alleged tendency to milk his collaborators. “Before he decided to work with Kanye West, I sent a text message to McCartney saying, ‘beware,’ but he ignored it. He does what he wants, it’s Paul McCartney ,” Albarn said.

^ Yer man is acting as if Paul is senile. I think Paul knew exactly what he was getting up to collaborating with Kanye, he gave both of them publicity from age-groups that might not have listened to them before.
As for the song, I don’t like the original version of it but I do like Paul’s concert version, apart from his stupid trying to get everyone to singalong part @1:33
I don’t like it with his Hey Jude “just the ladies”, “now just the men” shtick and I don’t like here, apart from that, I like the way he sings “home”.

Eww, does he really do that? If when I go see him, I’m going to sing through both of them, on principal.

You wouldn’t mind but you can barely hear the women singing anyways as the higher voices don’t pick up well across the stadium, all you hear is burly men. Hey Jude is 7 minutes long, if it were even 5 minutes I would like it a lot more. I don’t want 4 minutes of nanananananas.
I don’t pay 100 quid to hear the audience sing, Paul.

I would, actually.
I don’t know, there’s a certain power to audience singalongs, tacky though they may seem in theory. However… four minutes is a little excessive.

My opinions never change. I was just on my way to this thread to say I wish we had some Paul vocals on this song. I would’ve definitely liked it a lot more. I really haven’t listened to this one since it came out, but I had a friend bring it up when I mentioned Paul McCartney . It’s sad that this is how some people know ol’ JPM.

Well Kanye cheated himself out of an amazing opportunity, so it’s his loss really.

I’m not keen on Kanye at all, but the recording of FourFiveSeconds is OK. I prefer Paul’s version when he performed it at the Grand Central Station though. It’s a shame that Paul didn’t do his own version of Only One.
