‘Ever Present Past’ was the lead single released from Paul McCartney’s 14th solo album Memory Almost Full. See more…
It was really me just sort of writing a pop song. I was just trying to keep it real simple and do something very basic, and when I got to the sort of ‘Ever Present Past’ idea it kind of took on a little more significance than I intended because I guess I do have an ever-present past. So it started to be about that and things I did when I was a kid and stuff. Then I got into a video, which I enjoyed doing very much; me dancing around with these girls who learned all my moves. It was very fun, actually.

I listened to it (along with a lot more McCartney solo songs and Beatles albums too) yesterday while painting the trim on the exterior of my house. I’m very sore from the work we did this weekend.
While listening to it, I ponder the fact that it is hard for Paul to escape his past – it is everywhere, just take a look at the Beatley moments thread and the threads about the Beatles in pop culture and references to them in other songs.
I take the line “I think of everything to be discovered” to mean (among other things) that wants to keep “riding on the merry-go-round” of creating new music for the world to enjoy. You know, some authors die with unfinished novels. I hope McCartney keeps tinkering with music until he reaches The End Of The End . He will just be sitting at the piano one day making a new song and slip right on off to rejoin John. Hopefully Apple will release Paul’s unfinished songs.

Thanks @Ahhh Girl, like your thoughts. I didn’t realize Paul had created an Ever Present Past video – he even does some dance moves. It’s the first one presented on this top 40 Paul videos prepared by Rolling Stone. Actually a few of these I hadn’t seen before…

I like this song, it’s a bop. Has fun choreography and a cute concept, I like doing the ‘wave’ motion for ‘it went by’.

I’m just watching it and I think it’s funny because Paul’s supposed to be a Gemini, which is the sign of the twins, and there are two of him in the vid.
That’s all
