Have been listening to this song a lot recently. It is extremely catchy, but for some reason I feel sad when listening to it. The energy and upbeat nature of the song is almost too extreme; instead of imagining a nice happy open prarie, I feel emotional over the simple and beautiful things that I have lost in my life.
I dont have the McCartney lyrics book on hand where I currently live, but I would be surprised if Country Dreamer made it in. Its not a very profound lyric, but it does the trick in stirring some pretty strong emotions in me despite not having much lyrical depth. Where this song really shines is in its melody. It is of the best I’ve ever heard from Paul or anybody. The main theme works incredibly well down the octave, up the octave, up & down, in harmony… it is an amazing tune, and maybe could have been a bigger hit with less sparse production and a more serious lyric. Still, I love the song as it is.

I’m right there with you Sir Walter. This song always makes me wistful because I want the idyll that Paul sketches out in this song so badly, but it seems rather far away from my circumstances at the moment.
