Still groovy. Bass deceptively simple, love those crazy “horn” riffs on the CS-80 and/or the Arp Soloist. That’s right, not a real sax in the house.

sigh butterflyI'm like Necko only I'm a bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin and also everyone. Or is everyone me? Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe. This has been true for 2016 & 2017 but I may have to get more specific in the future.

Strange how I always assume John heard the album version as that was the single in the UK but presumably he heard the live version as that was what made the charts in the US. John himself said
Somebody asked me what I thought of Paul’s last album and I made some remark like I thought he was depressed and sad. But then I realized I hadn’t listened to the whole damn thing. I heard one track – the hit, ‘Coming Up ,’ which I thought was a good piece of work. Then I heard something else that sounded like he was depressed.
Its a really funky version the live recording. And from Glasgow too.
I wonder what the track was that John thought made Paul sound depressed. He really knew how to give someone a compliment and then instantly follow it up with a slap to to face.

I was listening to Coming Up and the first 20 seconds sound similar to the first 20 seconds of Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground) by Michael Jackson.
I am you as you are you as you are you and you are all together.

Let’s all take a moment to appreciate this all Paul band in the “Coming Up” video.

Haha, it says “The Plastic Macs” on the drum.
Thanks for that bit of humor today, @William Shears Campbell. I’m sure Paul had a great time coming up with that one.

Coming Up – Rolling Stone article and original video. I’m looking around for the 1980 SNL interview with Father Sarducci that is mentioned in the article. It sounds pretty crazy.

I wouldn’t mind seeing that Sarducci interview again myself! Can’t recall if I’ve seen it in repeats even once…Dunno how well the humour would hold up; 12-year old me probably laughed a few times.
The discussion wasn’t entirely pot-jokey; there was also discussion of the flashy new video. I remember Linda commenting how the one perpetually out-of-step hippie was her fave of the many Pauls in the vid…
Anyways, very cool video and nice way to premiere a single.
and a few days later it was on the radio; and a few weeks later still, I bought my copy. Never seen a three-song single before that…
