It’ll go on as long as he is alive, methinks. And then the revisionism will start.
And folk will also [hopefully] stop thinking Paul was crap post-1970 and realise just how good he was instead of comparing him to their [Saint] John Lennon .
So hopefully the scales will be more balanced.

If Paul needs to die in order to balance the scales, then by all means, keep dissing the dude! If I have to choose between a Paul that’s alive and well but gets trashed, or a Paul that’s dead and buried, but more widely revered, I’ll choose the former. I can’t bear the thought of him not being around anymore…
And yes, I know it’s just a matter of time, but I don’t want to think about it, okay?

Why are we on another cycle of Paul can’t sing very well?
Because it’s a cycle just like how some threads are hot and not. It’ll pass then start up again. As long at is is civil and cooler heads prevail then it’s all good.
I think he can sing very well.
He’s just not one of the world’s greatest singers.

I’m away for the first time all week and I miss the best argument.
Not that it’s much of one. I’m a bit late on this one, but I’d like to share my input.
There are many things that can characterize a “good” singer. Keep in mind that I’ve been professionally trained (I’m saying this to prove on all logical accounts Paul is better than good.) Some are technical and others are preferences. In the ROCK GENRE, some important key points are:
Range: Paul is an anomaly. He can sing baritone and he can sing high high, I mean notes trained mezzo’s cannot even sing–and he ISN’T!
Tone/pitch quality: The last time I checked, there’s no auto-tune in 1960.
Versatility: He kills Till There Was You , a Broadway show tune. He also kills Oh Darling.
Feeling/personal preference: Yesterday is still the most covered song in history.
I was raised with classical music and trained with Italian arias, and I can testify that PAUL MCCARTNEY IS BRILLIANT. He could sing without warning up, drunk sugary drinks–any vocalist knows these things are restrictive. (And think of all those cigs and drugs!) Imagine if he didn’t! One might argue that these choices influence his sound, and that he didn’t sound perfect. But I will say, for someone who isn’t trained, his range and versatility is truly remarkable. I haven’t been through the entire thread, so I don’t know where/why/how this question came from, but I’d like to know.
I will also say that I prefer Lennon’s tone over McCartney, but to say he isn’t a good singer is like … For once, I can’t think of an analogy.

Basically, @KaleidoscopeMusic, Derek Francis stated that he thinks Paul is good singer, but not great. He didn’t really base it on anything but his opinion. You and many other forum members have done an excellent job of stating why Paul IS a great singer. Derek’s mind may not be changed, but the evidence for Paul’s greatness is laid out for him to plainly see. We can’t always change someone’s “preferences”, but this group sure can educate! I’m very proud of you all for making the case so calmly and respectfully yet passionately at the same time.

I think if Derek_Francis explaned the in depth reasoning behind his statement than maybe we could understand why Paul isn’t a great singer spesificly.

Nahhhh, you were fine @Mademoiselle Kitty >^..^<. Okay, perhaps you didn’t make your point calmly, but I thought it was fairly respectfully at least.

Well, because of all the ways people have pointed out in this thread that he IS a great singer.
I don’t think anyone on the forum now would put down someone’s “preference”, but they will dismantle an untruth. I think the topic title was/is over-the-top incendiary. I think that is what got people’s blood boiling and their ire up.

For the same reason why anybody would get mad if someone said “John is not a great singer”. Because he is.

I dont think anyone got mad; as AG posted above everyone has handled themselves in a manner befitting of this forum (including yourself @Mademoiselle Kitty >^..^<, dont put yourself down, its good to have passion in such areas when used in the correct manner) in their replies. Its a great thing to see.

I think it’s a bit conflicting because this is a Beatles Bible. Go against our religion, and well … it can get awkward. I do appreciate such a bold statement, though. It always helps once in a while to reinstate the reasons for our strong opinions.
