Each of those have lots of views too. heart McCartney.

I have had two requests so I am pulling together posts about this popup NYC gig from the news thread (this page), the Paul McCartney Appreciation Thread (this page), and the Freshen Up Thread (was page 3).

What a fun and emotional concert. I really like the new album too.

Paul has done the third small venue concert of the Freshen Up tour. Grand Central Station New York City. This one was live streamed.

I love what he did with My Valentine . It was so special that Nancy did the little heart symbol with her hands during the song.

Blackbird was when I took a bathroom break. I didn’t get to hear what part he messed up.

Damn! Abe is the MAN! I didn’t know he played drums with one hand whilst adjusting his hat — and dancing — and singing backup!

It was out of this world. The whole show was a banger, but I found that the rendition of ‘Blackbird ‘ with Paul among the crowd was especially special, and also Abe dancing to ‘Dance Tonight’ whilst playing kick drum (that guy is SERIOUSLY TALENTED). I think the peak was ‘Golden Slumbers /Carry That Weight /The End ‘ (DUELING GUITARS FTW) — which is as it should be because it was the set closer, after all. I also enjoyed see/hearing the new songs and ‘I’ve Got A Feeling ‘ and ‘Let It Be ‘ was pretty special too.

During ‘I’ve Got A Feeling ‘ when Paul first switched from bass to guitar, my dad remarked cautiously, ‘He seems a lot better at guitar-playing than Roger (Waters, whom we saw in Boston last September), doesn’t he?’ and I was like ‘YEAH Paul is good at EVERYTHING, MAN, while Roger’s not a terribly proficient instrumentalist — he knows enough to get by but he’s got a ten-piece backing band for a reason*. a-hard-days-night-john-6

TL;DR MACCA IS BOSS! (Also the drummer too.)

And I had ‘Come On To Me’ stuck in my head all day yesterday. I’ve developed a serious fondness for it. paul-mccartney-thumb_gif

*He doesn’t want to have to be as responsible, and also the music he’s going to be playing (Pink Floyd, mostly) is going to be a bit lusher, arrangement-wise, than an average Beatles/McCartney song.

After he sang Hi Hi Hi

Well, when I met you at the station

then

Oh please believe me, I’d hate to miss the train

during I’ve Got A Feeling , I started thinking he might do One After 909 . Then I started thinking “oh my what other songs talk about a train or station”.

Widespread Panic and ither jam bands often have secret themes to their setlists for fans to figure out. Wouldve been cool to see Paul do something similar with the station theme.

And yes @Beatlebug  Abe Laboriel Jr. is so talented. Always been a massive fan of Paul’s guys Brian Rusty Wix and Abe.

Apparently he flubbed the lyrics twice and had to restart twice, @Expert Textpert, I assume at the two points where you get cheers in the third version. The breakdowns never left Grand Central Station though, as the show was streaming on a time delay, and the first two attempts were edited out of the broadcast.
