Wogblog reports on the latest news of upcoming remasters
According to a 2014 Concord Priorities presentation, the two Wings albums “Venus And Mars ” (1975) and “Red Rose Speedway ” (1973) are due for the McCartney Archive treatment in June.
According to the card included with the Wings Over America relese, “Wings At The Speed Of Sound ” was the album due to accompany “Vesus And Mars”. Maybe they got their “speeds” mixed up?
Also notes that “”Off The Ground ” saw a “digitally remastered reissue” on January 21st on Hear Music, without any fanfares.”.

^that’s the consensus on Steve Hoffman forums, too, that it’s a goof and it’s really Speed of Sound. We shall see. In any event, I wish they’d just hurry the hell up with these releases!

Hm, I’d kinda like to hear Red Rose Speedway first, assuming the expanded version would feature the bonus tracks conforming to Paul’s original vision of a double album. (Wonder why they can’t just release ’em in the order in which they came out in the first place?)
Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

Wogblog reports that the memo which stated the next two releases in the Archive series were coming in June has been removed, possibly due to getting the name of one of the albums mixed up (Red Rose Speedway with Wings At The Speed Of Sound ).
If they can’t get the name of the album right and have to fix it what hope is there? Still, nice to see Apple haven’t monopolised the market share in getting releases wrong.

It’s what I figured…it doesn’t make sense to group V&M with RRS, while it makes perfect sense to group it with SoS since those are the two albums the ’76 tour were promoting. Wild Life and RRS make sense together, and London Town and Back To The Egg as the last grouping.

Wogblog has posted that the date for the next releases in the archive collection is 17th June 2014 and the albums will be Venus And Mars and Wings At The Speed Of Sound (confirming that the earlier report of Red Rose Speedway being in the place of WatSoS was incorrect).
So far the only details of the releases are
- Wings: Venus & Mars – Paul McCartney Archive Collection deluxe edition (2 CDs +DVD): June 17, 2014
- Wings: Speed Of Sound – Paul McCartney Archive Collection deluxe edition (2 CDs +DVD): June 17, 2014
I’m particularly looking to see what is on Wings At The Speed Of Sound , one of my favourite albums.
Also posted in the news thread.

I was just wondering whether or not Paul McCartney ‘s new Archive Collection releases, Venus & Mars & Speed Of Sound are going to be in a book set (Examples are McCartney, McCartney II , and Band On The Run ) or a box set (Examples are Ram & Over America)? If you know, please let me know.

Haven’t heard anything yet apart from the release date. Nice to see they are finally coming out, though I gave up waiting and spent a bit getting the previous reissues as they were among the last few CDs I needed to complete my McCartney collection (along with Wild Life ).

There has been no official word on what the content will be outside of each release coming with 2 cds (one will be the original album, the other any time related singles and outtakes (so Juniors Farm, Sally G and the Venus and the Mars/Rock Show single edit all on V&M) and either one or two dvd’s depending on the album (V&M 2, WatSoS 1).

Considering how long its taking to get each album out it would be quite unusual to see another release or two later this year – sadly. But here’s hoping for Wild Life as its one of my favourites too.

Personally I would love to see Back To The Egg done next. There’s plethora of things they could include; the tv special, Rockestra documentary, live footage from the 1979 tour plus bonus tracks and live audio.
Also Red Rose Speedway would be cool with the James Paul McCartney TV special and bonus tracks.
I just feel there’s not much they could include with Venus And Mars and WatSoS since Wings over America covered alot from this time.

That special is crying out to be released all-by-itself, it’s so bizarre.

I’m looking forward to all of the reissues and also wish that they would get on with it really…
There are a couple that I am very interested to see how they turn out for various reasons…
Between the release of Press To Play and Flowers In The Dirt there was an album that was never released and it would be very interesting to see what happens with that. That album is said to have included the original recording of Beautiful Night (that is one reason why I am glad it wasn’t released because the Flaming Pie version was great with that ending) and some more songs. Also both of these sets have different versions of songs that were released and a lot of extra material was recorded – the sessions for Flowers In The Dirt included three co-writes with Hamish Stuart as well as numerous other songs (bring on the original McCartney/Costello demos).
The other interesting thing would be to see what happens with the releases of Tug Of War , Pipes Of Peace , and even Give My Regards To Broad Street in fact, as they all feature material that was initially intended for a Wings album following from Back To The Egg , and there are demo recordings and rehearsal footage of Wings performing songs such as Take It Away (originally a reggae song I believe), The Other Me, Keep Under Cover, No Values, Not Such A Bad Boy , Tug Of War , etc…
However, the recordings of Wings performing those songs brings in it’s own legal quandaries perhaps? To include those would mean an alteration from the albums themselves being seen legally as McCartney solo releases to Wings releases, unless there is a legal loophole there wherein Laine, Juber and Holley waive the Wings name and accept their participation as session musicians. I think that if the recordings were credited as Wings, then the whole sets have to have their royalties split between the whole band? I’m not sure on that? Anyone?

Whilst there were rehearsals with Wings i cant see half hearted run-thrus being included on the album reissues.
As for legal issues i would think the word is tough with Paul owning the songs and having paid the members of Wings for their time back then. In fact where there any contracts signed, i recall Paul not wanting any contracts due to the hassles with the Beatles split and the others eventually agreeing with Paul.

All of Paul’s solo catalogue is being remastered with bonus material and a few additional albums are rumoured, like an Anthology-type disc with additional outtakes. Its going to be be completed in the 34th Century but it is happening.

Why isn’t it simply being done chronologically?
