‘Wild Life ‘ is viewed as a heavily undercooked, incredibly raw album by many whereas ‘Red Rose Speedway ‘ is deemed to be very inconsistent. If Paul is looking for some sort of contemporary appreciation for his career then neither of those will be appealing – and the way he’s going about the reissues so far suggests he is.
Looking at what’s left I can see why Paul would be hesitant to get them out. ‘Pipes Of Peace ‘ was a simple choice as you shove it in with the acclaimed ‘Tug Of War ‘ and hype/promote the latter but there isn’t much else where you can do that. That’s not to say they are all not worthy of release, more that Paul seems to be wanting his stronger albums out and appears to have been opting for the more well received. Aside from one single how on earth do you promote ‘Give My Regards To Broad Street ‘? He should have just put out multiple releases, 4 or 5 at a time, start out at the beginning, end stage one with ‘Band On The Run , stage three begins with ‘McCartney II ‘, but he went with the strongest, and the flaws of the project are now blatant.
It’s all incredibly disappointing.

The most frustrating thing for me is Flowers In The Dirt . That was an exceptional re-release of a great album, with new cool content to come along with it.
Yet I saw on here and other places at the time of its release that Macca fans were disappointed.
If it were up to me they should give each album (of merit) a similar look that they gave to Flowers In The Dirt . Obviously not all of Paul’s albums have this pile of Elvis Costello demos, but at least there was excitement behind it as well.
There are a million better ways to be doing this.

Don’t forget McCartney II also piggybacking on McCartney. They indeed really should’ve been released in sets of 5 or so. His discography kind of lends itself to that anyway: Wave 1 — McCartney through Band On The Run ; the beginning of his post-Beatles career, Wave 2 — Venus And Mars through Back To The Egg ; the final years of Wings; Wave 3 — McCartney II through Back in the U.S.S.R.; Paul going solo for good, Wave 4 — Flowers In The Dirt through Paul Is Live; the ‘comeback’ years, Wave 5 — Flaming Pie through Back in the U.S./World; his late-period resurgence. I’d even have settled for them being released EVERY OTHER year in this approach.
And, again, the fact that no hint was given in the Flowers set as to which title(s) will be next can’t help but reek of them not knowing which direction to go next. They’ve essentially painted themselves into a corner on this project by going with all the most popular/acclaimed albums first.

Making ALL OF THE MUSIC available digitally – instead of basically bribing people to buy the full deluxe editions in order to get them – would’ve gone a long way to avoiding the damage. Instead, certain fans who no longer really buy physical albums are basically seeking out pirated downloads online of the mono mix of Ram , the remastered Thrillington album, the remastered original mix of Tug Of War , the 1988 Flowers demos, and the remastered Flowers non-album B-sides (which, again, annoyingly lacked the ’89 version of “The Long And Winding Road ;” I’m a little more forgiving of the additional omission of “I Wanna Cry” since learning it was actually recorded during the Back in the U.S.S.R. sessions).

Has this been quietly killed off or has everyone alive just grown bored by how crap it’s been handled? ‘FITD’ was a year ago and unless one has come out since or I’ve missed an announcement there has been nothing. There must be 20+ albums since to go, some of which haven’t seen a reissue/remaster in almost 25 years!!
If Paul cannot be arsed give it to me and I’ll get it going. Heck, I’ll even give the ‘Red Rose Speedway ‘ medley a listen and not say it’s unlistenable garbage when promoting the archive release.
For the next Q&A on Paul’s monthly newsletter can Paul be asked what’s going on with this instead of a question on which is his favourite pen when writing songs (“Actually, I use a mechanical pencil with a rubber on the end. Thanks for the question. )?

I got excited when I saw this thread revived. “Could it be? What is he releasing next?”Silly me.
You got excited by this project?! Have you not learned from how it’s been done that only disappointment comes?

I’m vainly holding out hope they’ve moved the releases back to a year and a half apart (and thus we’ll be getting Flaming Pie this coming fall). just as they’ve moved the goal posts on the release of James Bond movies from every year to every 2 years to every 3-4 years.
But I’m still waiting for the announcement of his new album more than anything.

Wogblog reports that ‘New’, ‘Thrillington ‘, ‘Chaos And Creation In The Backyard ‘ and ‘Wings Greatest’ are all being reissued on coloured vinyl LPs and single CDs on the 18th May 2018. No bonus tracks are included.
Considering ‘New’ is simple enough to buy in the shops, no idea why it’s included when other albums are still long out of print but at least three are out of the way and ‘Thrillington ‘ is finally available on its own.

Great to see Thrillington getting acknowledged here. I wish Flaming Pie got the same. Pretty odd selection of albums to remaster as they have little to do with one another.
His most recent album, perhaps his most underrated album (both being reissued despite their 21st-century releases), a 70s compilation, and an anonymous 70s big band album.

I think it’s just a way of getting four albums out there, nothing else; ‘Thrillington ‘ has already been included in the ‘Ram ‘ Archive, ‘Wings Greatest’ is a compilation (and I guess all the songs are also on ‘Pure McCartney’*), ‘New’ doesn’t fit with anything, you could probably put ‘Chaos and Creation’ in with ‘Memory Almost Full ‘ but it’s one to argue over.
It gives hope that at the very least we will eventually see reissues/remasters of albums like ‘Back To The Egg ‘ and ‘Wild Life ‘ even if they don’t come with outtakes, books, DVD, bits of toilet paper, paperclips and authentic reproductions of the knitting needles Linda used when on the road touring.
*’Pure McCartney’ and ‘Wingspan’ both contain the single edit of ‘With A Little Luck’ making ‘Wings Greatest’ the only current source for the full track.

I am a decidedly non-stereotypical girl and I don’t even like pink unless it’s capitalised and followed up with Floyd.
With that having been said…
…the pink vinyl for New is tasty indeed. I always thought that cover was so chromatically appealing somehow.

That damn song again, I was looking at the second-hand market for London Town among other things, and the 2005 All The Best compilation has the edit version as well! Anyway, the 1993 remaster is floating around, I might grab that instead because I’m sure not waiting around for the rest of this archive.

@Pineapple Records It’s the shorter version of the song that was released as a single with a cute video and everything.
The album version was longer, with an extended fadeout.

Thanks — I note the video in your link is 5:52, while the main version on the album is 6:00. Is the single edit really only a matter of 8 seconds?

@Pineapple Records O — according to the Wikipedia, the full version is 5:45 while the single edit is 3:13. Maybe I linked to the wrong one.
