i have been listening to this album over the past little bit. and it hasn’t really grabbed me like i thought it would. it’s got good tracks however, the more of the better tracks are closer to side two but i felt like the album could have been ordered better, getting better towards the end making it feel a little lopsided to me. feels like you gotta work to get to the fun music. i am definitely going to have to make a playlist that reorders the tracks just to try to optimize the order a little better. i’ll do a short review for each song and then go slightly longer for the last one (dear friend) which is my favourite one on the album.
—————————————————————————————————————————–
mumbo- it’s a loud dancey rocker. and i have no clue at all what words are coming out of paul’s mouth, but it’s fun.
bip bop- a lighter toe tapper here. but a lot like mumbo in the sense that i can’t understand what paul is saying. not as fun.
love is strange- this is a nice tune, haven’t heard the original. i like the flow and it’s sung well. i’m not a deep fan of reggae but that’s just through lack of exposure. this song makes me think i should try to find some. (any suggestions?)
wild life- i think the first line feels like a lullaby or a nursery rhyme. but after that it goes into a bluesy type thing and i love it.
some people never know- sounds like something off of ram the way the acoustic guitar is played. it gives me a sweet feeling but went on a little too long.
i am your singer- nice little duet, but it kinda just sailed on by. i think it could’ve been something way bigger more with instruments and production
tomorrow- a sweet mccartney love song. the type of song i love. makes me feel sweet inside.
dear friend- the sad piano is very soothing even though it is sad. the song makes me almost cry if i get too deep into listening to it. i listened to it a couple years ago and it really didn’t connect with me then, but after listening to imagine and hearing “how do you sleep” it definitely has more power. i love how more instruments come in and out of the equation to make it feel bigger where it needs to but it still keeps the piano as the main instrument. this is easily my favourite song on the album a beautiful track.
—————————————–
so, in the end i thought this album was alright but didn’t grab me as well as i thought it could. i thought a few of the songs needed more production to them and i thought the ordering of the tracks could be improved. there’s some great songs in there that should not be overlooked but this album could be way better.

on my last listen-through of the post-breakup albums i take notes on what i think of the songs. that joke was in my notes but i was worried people would hate it. should have kept it in.

question for: @Expert Textpert @Beatlebug and @50yearslate
dear friend is disliked? why do people not like it? sure, it’s no Hey Jude or wanderlust but i think it’s lovely.

I find it too long and there isn’t enough to keep my interest up; chop off a verse and one of Paul vocalising and it would be far improved.
A lot of the criticism for ‘Wild Life ‘ is that the songs go on and on and on.

Not at all what I was saying. I LOVE Dear (see the r there folks?) Friend, it’s one of my very favorite Paul songs. I just made a typo the first time I tried to say that (I accidentally typed “dead friend” ) but I really do love the song.
Love one another.

No it wasn’t you, I was embarrassed so I edited my post and fixed the typo, the only place you can see it is where Beatlebug quoted me.
And it would take more than that to make me feel guilty about my song preferences

The home recording of Bip Bop on the reissued edition really gets me because Paul’s children are laughing and giggling in the background and its so darn cute I cant stand it.

To mark the 50th anniversary of ‘Wild Life ‘, there will be a half-speed vinyl pressing scheduled to be released on the 4th February 2022.
Since there have previously been similar released for ‘Ram ‘ and ‘McCartney’ all of his albums will be issued on this format.
