Re. Ram , i was never a huge fan of it until i heard the unique mono radio promo mixes. They sound far better than the standard versions, more bite. Hopefully with the upcoming remastered reissue Paul will continue the generosity shown so far and include these, even if it means an uber-deluxe especially special edition.
B.O.T. My Carnival was also recorded during these sessions and is a real fun track to listen to. Not sure why there are chicken noises in it tho.

Offline Never been too much of a fan of Wings Over America but the other 3 are something to look forward to, especially what bonuses Paul will throw in. The super-deluxe McCartney 2 has set my expectations high.

Offline Did you get the super-super one with the hardback book etc? I only have the double disc Special Edition sets of the remasters – the other versions are prohibitively expensive, and I'm not enough of a fan to spent £60 on copies of McCartney II et al.

Offline I didnt get the book edition as, like you Joe, i wasnt prepared to splash out so much money on it. I got the double disc of bonus tracks edition from Pauls website. One of the my favourites has to be the instrumental Summer's Day Song which is stunning.
One reissue i am looking forward to is Wings Wild Life , one of my fave solo-beatles albums. Not that its viewed highly by many Macca fans.

Offline Kedame, the whole of Wild Life , excluding Bip bop, i find to be really strong and i fail to see why it receives so much negativity. My brother isnt a big Paul fan but loves the album, especially the title track. Tomorrow is a hidden gem and i love how Some People Never Know and I Am Your Singer are one after the other. I Am Your Singer is a rare duet with Paul and Linda, there cant be many others. Dear Friend is Paul reaching out to John, very heartfelt.
By the way what the heck is Paul singing on Mumbo? Ive heard that so many times and still cant make it out. (Ok, after a google search have found its all nonsense.)

Offline Yeah, it took me a few listens to figure out it really was mumbo! I love Dear Friend, and it took a few listens for me to really like Tomorrow, but I love it now. Paul's voice is amazing on it. If you search for some hidden stuff, you can find a few unofficial duets between Paul and Linda. I can't think of any off the top of my head, but that may be because I have so many songs by Paul that I sometimes forget everything that's there. There is a version of Bip Bop/Hey Diddle that is really cute. It's on Wingspan, and Paul and Linda are both singing, accompanied by a laughing baby Mary. There is actually a video of it that shows Heather and Mary chasing each other around the yard while Paul and Linda sit there and sing. I guess if you're not really sentimental, you might think it's cheesy, but I just really love the McFamily in all their cheesy glory.
Oh, and I have the deluxe versions of both McCartney and McCartney II , and I think they were well worth the money if you can bear to part with it. They pictures in the McCartney book especially are amazing, and the extras on McCartney II are excellent. It includes some great videos and some tasty songs that were supposed to be on the double album. However, you could probably find all of the pictures online by now, probably on tumblr, if you don't want to fork over the extra money, and the extra songs are all on youtube.

Back to Venus And Mars , I always thought the opening song “Venus And Mars ” was beautiful. Anybody else wish it could have been developed into more of a song?
Agree with MeanMrMustard re “Letting Go.” Always had a soft spot for it.

Quite surprised to read me posting i like this album when i wasn’t too delighted going into it – memories can be faulty i guess.
However as part of my campaign to listen to all of Paul’s musical output have heard 2 hours of outtakes and then the full album and its overall a very very good album. The opening 2 are skippers (i’m sure they work great live but i’m not a huge fan of stadium rockers when done in the studio, they just don’t work as well) and Treat Her Gently/Lonely Only People goes on a touch too long but from Love In Song thru to Listen To What The Man Said its fantastic (no idea how to treat Crossroads Theme
).
The great thing about going thru all the tracks is hearing stuff i normally pay little attention to, or forgotten, and due to that have discovered the brilliance of Magneto and Titanium Man. I love how Paul sings and phrases the song especially “then it occurred to me, you couldn’t be bad. . .”. Add this to the great overlooked undiscovered buried gems in Paul’s quarry of material.

Offline Paul had me at the way he sings “library” in Magneto and Titanium Man
I heard it months ago. I remember I was walking down a path at the lake the first time I heard it. The walk turned into a little skip/dance after he sang “li-bur-eeee”. I’m glad there aren’t many people down there very often especially on all the back paths I know. I really hope no one sees my expressions of exuberance while I am down there listening to Beatles songs. It’s my place to cut loose.

Offline ‘Venus And Mars ‘ is one of Paul’s better post-Beatles collections, and while I can’t share your enthusiasms for ‘Magneto and Titanium Man’, I think some of the other tracks are the best McCartney songs since Abbey Road . ‘Love In Song’, ‘Letting Go’ and the brilliant ‘Listen To What The Man Said’ showed that ‘Band On The Run ‘ was no flash in the pan. ‘Listen To What The Man Said’ is not only one of his best solo records, but quite possibly the best performance I’ve heard from his ‘Out There’ live shows that I’ve heard recordings of, and that’s even including the Beatles’ songs that he performed on that tour.
Unfortunately, as with ‘Band On The Run ‘, the excellent tracks expose the filler in a brighter light as well. ‘You Gave Me The Answer’ sounds like a very poor ‘Honey Pie ‘ parody while ‘Call Me Back Again’ feels as though Paul was attempting to relive ‘Oh! Darling ‘s riveting vocal performance but failed miserably at it. I won’t go too much into ‘Magneto and Titanium Man’ for some of you seem to really enjoy it but I never liked it personally, while Denny Laine is certainly capable of better things than ‘Spirits of Ancient Egypt’, and he proved it a year later with ‘Time To Hide’. Bottom line is that this album contains more fillers than gems, but the brilliance of the handful of sparklers is worth the price of admission for they’re just THAT good, and I feel the same way about the ‘Band On The Run ‘ album…:-)

Offline Agree 100% with Billy Rhythm. My wife was a teenager when the album came out and it’s the first album she remembers liking a great deal. She loves “Rock Show” and “Magneto” – and I put up with them. I must say, they come off well live on the “Wings Over America ” movie.

Offline I meant something but who knows knows what? Probably got caught up in thought and posted half of it. I don’t like stadium rockers on albums, all the energy and vibe is lost in the polish and feel but Venus And Mars isn’t a rocker, no.

There’s undoubtedly an irresistible melody to ‘Venus And Mars ‘ (the song) that’s undeniable, but what doesn’t sit well with me is the recycling of the ‘Sgt. Pepper ‘ reprise idea that Paul had all ready rehashed on the ‘RAM’ & ‘Band On The Run ‘ albums respectively and to not much fanfare, what’s the point of doing this “artsy fartsy” concept for the third time in 4 years? It’s just as forgettable this time around as the other two attempts at recapturing something that ‘Sgt. Pepper ‘ did so effectively, yet another example of Paul doing a bad parody of himself…:-)

Offline Having bought the 2cd deluxe remaster reissue have listened to this again and it seems to get stronger every time i play it. The 5some were a really tight band in the studio (i havent got the remasted ‘Wings Over America ‘ yet but will do soon as its going cheap in some places) who rocked so damn good.
Looking back at my earlier posts ‘Letting Go’ isnt as high up as i once put it and neither is ‘You Gave Me The Answer’ tho both remain good songs. Still think ‘Medicine Jar’ is one of the best Wings track there was and ‘Magneto and Titanium Man’ is immense whilst Call Me Back Again’ is the latest grower with the band on fire and Paul delivering an incredible vocal. The opening two tracks and the closing number (or two if we include ‘Crossroads’) still continue to be the weakest points for me however.
Not yet heard the bonus tracks but am tempted to go back thru all the outtakes and alternate mixes in my iTunes library before moving over to ‘WatSoS’.

This is the kind of observations that I 
so dearly. Even if they weren’t consciously thinking of the older songs when writing the solo songs, I do think the older material was there subconsciously.
