Inspired by the Alternate Lyrics thread going on, I thought of this.

In Get Me Out Of Here, Paul sings

Hear the taxman knocking at my door
I’ve Got A Feeling he’ll be asking for more

So, do we need to rewrite Taxman

Let me tell you how it will be
There’s one-QUARTER for you, nineteen and three-quarters for me

Another video? Are we getting a video for each track off the album?

Oh well. Consisdering the theme it may have more of a Beatles related theme.

In thinking about my line for the Lyric Last Letter Game, I thought about these lines from Bluebird

Fly away through the midnight air
As we head across the sea
And at last we will be free

And that made me break out singing Wanderlust.

Light out wanderlust
Head us out to sea

Take us from the dark
Out where we can see

Light out wanderlust
Help us to be free

Now my mind just went here.

“Turned Out”

I took a trip into the ocean
High emotion filled me with desire
I had to see what I was fighting
That kept inviting me to take it higher
Well looking back it didn’t hurt me
It did something for my soul

I wonder why Paul thinks about going out into a large body of water to discover things and be set free?

Paul also beseeches the ocean to return his beloved “Honey Pie .” “Will the wind that blew her boat across the sea, kindly send her sailing back to me… doo, doo, doo…”

I would imagine that a budding young songwriter/poet from a coastal port like Liverpool would be inspired by standing at the water’s edge and staring at the horizon, wondering what wondrous adventures awaited him out there. Last night at sunset my wife and I took a walk along the shoreline of Puget Sound near our house. It was similarly inspiring, with the gentle breezes and the saltwater smells and the melancholy caws of the gulls and such.

parlance posted about Paul’s recent Rolling Stone interview here

I thought it would be a nice touch to add Paul’s thoughts regarding Early Days into this thread.

You just released a music video for your song “Early Days ,” where the chorus goes, “They can’t take it from me if they tried/I lived through those early days.” What are you singing about there?

Revisionism. It’s about revisionism, really. I know my memory has got chips in it that still can go exactly back to two guys sitting in a room trying to write “I Saw Her Standing There ” or “One After 909 .” I can see that very clearly still, and I can see every minute of John and I writing together, playing together, recording together. I still have very vivid memories of all of that. It’s not like it fades. Since John died so tragically, there’s been a lot of revisionism, and it’s very difficult to go against it, because you can’t say, “Well, no, wait a minute, man. I did that.” Because then people go, “Oh, yeah, well, that’s really nice. That’s walking on a dead man’s grave.” You get a bit sensitive to that, and you just think, “You know what? Forget it. I know what I did. A lot of people know what I did. John knows what I did. Maybe I should just leave it, not worry about it.” It took a little while to get to that.

I know that I have every memory still intact, and they don’t, as I say in the last verse, ’cause they weren’t there. I think you’ll find this in most bands, but in the Beatles’ case, it’s got to be worse than any case. For instance, I was on holiday once, and there was this little girl on the beach, little American kid. She says, “Hi, there. I’ve just been doing a Beatles appreciation class in school.” I said, “Wow, that’s great.” I think, “I know, I’ll be really cool here. I’ll tell her a little inside story.” So I go on about how something happened, and it was a fun story – and she looks at me, she says, “No, that’s not true. We covered that in the Beatles appreciation class.” I’m going, “Oh, f**k.” There’s no way out, man! They’re teaching this stuff now.

{snipped paragraph}

To get back to my original point, that’s the kind of thing that happens in films, but these books that are written about the meaning of songs, like Revolution in the Head – I read through that. It’s a kind of toilet book, a good book to just dip into. And I’ll come across, “McCartney wrote that in answer to Lennon’s acerbic this,” and I go, “Well, that’s not true.” But it’s going down as history. That is already known as a very highly respected tome, and I say, “Yeah, well, okay.” This is a fact of my life. These facts are going down as some sort of musical history about the Beatles. There are millions of them, and I know for a fact that a lot of them are incorrect.

I can see how that would be frustrating.
Well, it used to be frustrating. I’ve got over it. It’s okay. “Early Days ” has a smattering of that, but the main thing is it’s a memory song. It’s me remembering walking down the street, dressed in black, with the guitars across our back. I can picture the exact street. It was a place called Menlove Avenue. [Pauses] Someone’s going to read significance into that: Paul and John on Menlove Avenue. Come onnnnnnn. That’s what it’s like with the Beatles. Everything was f*****g significant, you know? Which is okay, but when you were a part of the reality, it just wasn’t like that. It was much more normal.

There’s a thread at Paul’s board that follows this. I haven’t seen anything lately on US or UK sales, but the album went gold in Japan.

After my early morning swim………I trot off for a hours stroll along the beach. I’ve made a few playlists to listen to……Beach Boys of course! But without any intent to compare I’d paired Handel’s ‘Sardok the Priest’ and Paul’s Standing Stones IV ‘Love is all we Really Know’. I’m not a classical buff, just like bits and bobs I’ve come across.

But to my ear Paul’s work holds up well…. He’s a clever sod!!

But the ‘New’ point is: I have 2 tracks from the album that I love to walk to….’Looking at Her’ is great. Even if they are not singing ‘tit, tit, tit a’la ‘Girl’ in the background then it sounds like, ‘doot, doot, doot….. which in Thailand, where I live means ‘arse’ anyway. The track that follows this is:   ‘I can Bet’  Somehow this song really puts a spring in my step…….It loosens up all the joints and I find myself walking with real purpose as if I was fifteen again.

It’s absolutely the BEST walk along to track I’ve come across…….Try it!! See what you think and if you know a better one post it….I’ll add it to my playlist.

Examiner report of how at a recent concert a fan got Paul to sign the sleeve of his vinyl copy of ‘New’ (as is now mandatory on my part i detest that album title).

I personally love the New album, but I feel like Paul would benefit to step back and take a breather. If I had my way, the next album we get from Paul would be either something new with the Fireman (Electric Arguments was brilliant!) or McCartney III , which would be incredible.
