Yep. In particular that set of lines reminds me of reading about the time they busked for a summer and worked at Paul’s cousin’s pub (the “Nerk Twin” gigs).

I read last month where Paul said he’s shooting a video for this song, so hopefully it confirms what you and the rest of us are thinking.  Because that summer you mentioned… is same, exact thought I had when I heard it.

Ah, Faul’s album. Too bad he could never reach the heights of Paul. what a loss.

You see, in the capitalization of NEW in the title, Faul illustrates that he is the NEW Paul, the old one should be forgotten.

a-hard-days-night-ringo-8 For future reference, Faceo’s post was an April Fools joke. Notice the date he posted it.

Yesterday evening while walking with my dog, I heard Style Style from Off The Ground – The Complete Works for the first time. I listened to it again this morning while getting ready for work. Here are a few lyrics from the song:

She is perfectly spotless?
A fact that sticks out a mile

But this little lady’s got style??
Style, style
See her when she’s walking?
She’s got style, style?
Even when she’s making me say
Ooooh-oo
Ooooh hey hey

Always armed with a smile?
You’ve only got to look at her picture to know?
That this little lady’s got style??
Style, style

See her when she’s talking?
She’s got style, style

She’s got style peeping out of her pockets

It struck me about a half hour later as I was getting ready to walk the door to go to work that this song made me think of Looking at Her from New. Here are a few lyrics from it.

If you ask her how it’s done
She won’t know
It’s like trying to catch the sun
On the water
She tries to explain
Then it happens again

Everybody’s looking at her
She’s got everybody talking about her
She’s good, she’s kind
She’s so refined

She’s good, so fine
She’s sweet as wine

Doesn’t she know, why can’t she see
Look at the effect that she’s having on me
I’m not alone
I’m part of the crowd
Turning our heads as she walks down the street

Well, as pointed out by Mr. Kite (oooo that gif) and known by @WETSRoosa for some time (he doesn’t have enough holy water to dump on me and his printing press for the indulgences can crank ’em out fast enough), I guess I’ve put the kibosh on any notion of pulling off spotless, stylish, or refined on this forum. Oh, well, it is me you have.

One last observation for this post. The line “She’s got style peeping out of her pockets” pairs well with “With the recipe for a lovely day
Sticking out of my back pocket” from the song Ballroom Dancing.

Wait one more. In Another Day , the lady is dipping into the pocket of her raincoat.

Letting the cat out of the bag here. I will be visiting the Vatican next month. Put your call in to His Holiness, and he can have his guards drag me out of the museum or St. Peter’s to get my ultimate lecture.

I’d call the Pope and warn him to get out and go on a Papal visit to another country,a ll those thoughts and comments about Paul have no place in the same country as the Popea-hard-days-night-paul-3 He is in Israel in late May, any chance you could go on your trip then AG to held him out?

I guess he doesn’t know about me yet. He didn’t block my purchase of tickets to to the museum. Maybe standing in the Sistine Chapel will inspire me to change my ways. Bwahaha…I just read what I wrote. It don’t think I’m likely to be reformed by the experience. The pull of a-hard-days-night-paul-7is just too strong.

EDIT: @meanmistermustard The museum tickets are day and time stamped, and they aren’t refundable $$. And besides, plane tickets, train tickets, and hotel rooms here and there are already arranged, so the Pope will have to schedule an extra trip earlier in the month if he wants to miss me. I can’t help him out, sorry.

I’ve been listening to the album this week, and to be honest, I’ve interpreted the song to be about his relationships with his producers.

That’s interesting. I never even thought about thinking about that possibility. Just shows how many different interpretations people can have of songs.

While listening to Hosanna today, I heard a sound in the song I had never heard before. I started listening more intently trying to figure out what instrument it might be.

Then, I realized it was something rattling in the car. ahdn_paul_02

In “Early Days “, Paul sings that he and John were “Seeking someone who would listen to the music / That we were writing down at home.”

According to Lewisohn, John and Paul only wrote down the words and chords.

They’d no means of recording them and neither could read or write music, so Paul appropriated a Liverpool Institute exercise book, maybe 48 feint-ruled pages, in which every new song had a fresh page. In his neat left-handed script, generally using a fountain pen, he wrote the words (they were always words, never lyrics) with chords shown by their alphabetical letter. Unable to describe the melody, they decided early on that if they couldn’t remember something the next day, they could hardly expect it to stick in the mind of anyone else, in which case it was “c – p” and deserved to go. But sometimes Paul wrote atmospheric directions. For one song it was, “Ooh ah, angel voices”.

I don’t know much about song/music writing. Is there any contradiction between Paul’s statement and what Lewisohn wrote?

EDIT: Neither Paul or John could read or write music. I guess Paul was taking a bit of poetic license in “Early Days “. Perhaps he was just meaning “songs” instead of “music”. Um, ah, um, hum, I guess those are interchangeable. I’m desperately trying to defend Paul in my mind here.

Yes, this is my third post tonight for NEW. Shoot me. But, @Ron Nasty’s post spurred me on to stay up and write this post at this late hour. As I was driving home this evening, the sun was down past the horizon, but the sky was still light. It was clear as a bell. “Early Days ” started playing. I could feel the presence of John Lennon in the vast sky. A few tears trickled down my cheeks thinking about John and Paul’s friendship and the impact that John had on this world. Then as I was writing my two posts above, Ron Nasty posted the story and video at the link. So, now you can see why I had to write this post.
