Returning to Ebony And Ivory , Paul’s solo version was released on the 12″ i think and as a bonus track in itunes when Tug Of War was added, along with all of Paul’s other albums (it still might be there). Does that improve the song or is it still terrible?

Oh, gosh, I couldn’t get past the first few strains of the melody. It still gives me horrible flashbacks to both the cheesy video and the grade school assembly where we had to sing it.

It’s probably the keyboard sound at the beginning after he says “Okay,” which is repeated at 0:45, 1:44 and 2:43.You’re good at this.I listened to the song noting your times. I think you are right.
Paul saying “Okay” before playing the toy brings two pictures to mind.
First image: a technologically-challenged grandpa trying to figure out how to use a child’s toy. “Okay, I think this is the right button.”
Second image: a rock-n-roll superstar who can’t believe he is really about to put this toy into one of his songs. He is wondering if it will go over well with his listening public. “Okay, here goes.”
LOL.

“Ebony And Ivory ” deserves its own thread. IMO it’s another example of a relatively weak McCartney song reaching #1 in the UK and/or US. So yes it’s weak and contributed (along with those other songs) to the long delay in Macca reaching the Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame as a solo performer. But who’s to argue with a #1 song?.
Everything Macca’s done since Flaming Pie has been great – but not a #1 hit in sight.
Back on topic, I’ve put Flaming Pie , Chaos and Creation and NEW in my multiple CD player, and clicked “random.” What a treat.
The perfect triple album!!!

Not entirely sure where to post this but considering the performance was mostly to promote New here seems best. It’s a video of Paul behind the scenes at the BBC recently. A few very sweet moments are contained.
So adorable! Him and Stella, him with the Beatles picture….. Ugh!
"Please don't bring your banjo back, I know where it's been.. I wasn't hardly gone a day, when it became the scene.. Banjos! Banjos! All the time, I can't forget that tune.. and if I ever see another banjo, I'm going out and buy a big balloon!"

You might want to check your local Starbucks (dang, I almost wrote Starsucks thanks to mja) for their latest Song Pick of the Week cards. My local store has Paul as this week’s pick with “New.”

I read the back of the card, and it looks like this is applicable to the US only. But I picked up a few cards. If you want one just to have as a collectible, just PM me. I suppose you could just send me an IRC in return (do they still do those?).

Parlance, thanks for the Huffington review – it is indeed nice to see such a review from a college student. We should invite him to the Forum. And mmm, love that BBC clip. Macca looks particularly good there and seems to be a fun guy to hang out with. Haven’t heard of an IRC but I’ll take it over the IRS (Internal Revenue Service – tax).

Via WogBlog, a music channel in the US called Palladia will be featuring a documentary on NEW on December at 9pm EST:
Paul McCartney : Something NEW
THURSDAY, 12/5 at 9p EST — Something NEW documents the creation of Paul McCartney ‘s latest album ‘NEW’, widely hailed as possibly the finest solo work of his peerless discography. The doc alternates between intimate footage of the actual recording process and vivid memories and incisive reflections of all involved. The result is an unprecedented behind-the-scenes look into Paul’s creative process and his collaboration with the album’s star-studded production team.

I get really tired of hype. It’s a great album and all, I know a few folks here have it in their top-5 lists at the moment – but “widely hailed as possibly the finest solo work …”. How widely? I haven’t seen this claim much. And then they throw in the ‘possibly’ to dilute their claim and perhaps deflect attention from the shameless hyperbole they are throwing about to get people interested in their show. Even if I had access to this channel I think I would skip the show if this is a sample of what it will be like.

Sadly hype is not uncommon in life, everything is given more push to people to try and get them to swallow it and buy/listen whatever. Like you trcanberra it pushes me away.
I’ve listened to New (my liking of the name deteriorates every time i think of the album, its now incredibly annoying and the joke wore thin after the third utterance of it – throw in appreciate and it is really gets on my nerves) once and I wasn’t blown away. Thats not to say it was bad, maybe when i get around to hearing it again it will grow but that won’t be for a while as i have a backlog of music to get thru.
