This is a tough one. I’ll throw my vote to Ten Years After

"The pump don't work cause the vandals took the handles!"

-Bob Dylan, Subterranean Homesick Blues

3 votes for I Want To Come Home, making it our track six. I’m quite liking the mixed bag our side one has turned out to be, although some personal favourite tracks lost in previous rounds, but alas I must stay neutral as moderator! a-hard-days-night-ringo-12

And so the next nominations are for our would be side two opener, track seven. Let’s go! a-hard-days-night-paul-5

I’d like to nominate Once Upon A Long Ago, which I think was also featured in a movie. It was first released as a single in 1987.

Isn't he a bit like you and me?

a-hard-days-night-ringo-8 It was written for The Princess Bride, @StrawberryFields91, and rejected by the director, Rob Reiner, who used a Mark Knopfler song instead.

I renominate Ten Years After on Strawberry Jam. I think it works better as the opening track of Side Two, and represents Paul’s more experimental side, which is lacking so far. While credited to the Scaffold, who provide the “vocals”, it is very much a Paul track – written by him and Linda, backing track by Wings, and produced by Paul. I like that it takes us back to the early Merseybeat days reflecting on early days in Liverpool and Hamburg, and brings in Tony Sheridan.

It brings in that sound of Paul when he’s doing things like the Fireman albums and the Liverpool Sound Collage , which I think should definitely be represented here:

Ahhh Mom and I both vote for Once Upon A Long Ago. (I know her vote doesn’t count, but she wanted everyone to know she likes the song.)

In the morning, I will tell you in the In My Life thread why Ahhh Mom is at my house.

I wasn’t aware @SgtPeppersBulldog had approved these songs for voting yet, @Ahhh Girl.

Always disappointing to see people going for the easy commercial option. Had I been in charge, I would have said that anyone who submitted the winning track in the previous round couldn’t submit a track for the next round. I’d have liked this to show a rounded McCartney, all that he does, rather than just the very commercial Paul, which is what this is going to turn out to be.

Paul has had many aspects to his solo career, but sadly only the commercial is being recognised – something I’m sure would disappoint Paul.

I’m happy to go with Once Upon A Long Ago, but Nasty, we need one more person to agree with you about re-nominating Ten Years After on Strawberry Jam before it can officially be put into the running again. So no voting until if and when that happens. I’ll give it a day to see if more people want to re-nominate it, otherwise a different song can be nominated by some one else instead in its place. But yeh, I would like to see more of the archive bonus tracks and unofficially released stuff being nominated in future rounds.

It’s been a day. No one want to re-nominate? All I need is for someone to re-nominate TYA or nominate a new song and we can begin round seven.

Sure I’ll renominate it.  I haven’t really been involved in this because I don’t know solo careers, but I’ll renominate TYA to keep this going.

I highly doubt Paul would give a damn. If want you want to be on the bootleg loses or isn’t on the CD, too bad. Move onto the next round. Everybody gets an equal say about what goes on the playlist

A strange argument to make when Paul has often complained that his more experimental work is ignored, and that John gets the credit for being the adventurous and experimental one.

And I didn’t see anywhere that you couldn’t make an argument in favour of a song you had put forward, so why react like I’ve committed some huge transgression against the thread?

You’ve done nothing wrong and I don’t see why you feel my reaction is unwarranted. I’m simply responding to your post just as you were responding to the results of the voting. My argument stands. Paul will never see this page, so he naturally will never have to care about which aspects of his career are represented. This is being done for fun, and we are doing it for forum members not for Paul. Your argument is completely valid, but saying that “Paul would be disappointed ” is not.

I think suggesting that if we only end up with the commercial Paul on this, he’d be disappointed as, as already said, he likes his experimental side. Were this to be the “Ultimate Lost McCartney Solo Album”, to my mind, it needs something experimental.

Here is where you suggested I was wrong to be arguing that:

If want [Nasty note: I presume that that “want” is “what”] you want to be on the bootleg loses or isn’t on the CD, too bad. Move onto the next round. Everybody gets an equal say about what goes on the playlist

That, to me, I’m afraid suggested you thought me wrong in arguing in favour of a song I’d suggested, and an aspect of Paul I believe should be recognised.

I never took issue to you defending your nomination in this thread. I take issue with phrases like “had I been in charge” or talking about how Paul would be disappointed in the results of this voting. That is, in my eyes, a little bit disrespectful and immature. I felt the need to speak up. My saying “too bad,” and “move on” didn’t adequately express what I meant, So i understand your interpretation, and hope that this can clarify.

Vote: Once Upon A Long Ago

It may be commercial, but I like commercial, and I like this song better than TYA. Sorry, Ron mccartney-shrug_01_gif

Love one another.
