Watched this on youtube and i feel really pissed off having done so.
For the first 40/50 minutes it wasnt as bad as i thought it would be, the worst offender being the dreadful music. Having not listened to the soundtrack for years you can be deluded into thinking the songs wont be as bad as you think – but they are. The worst offer is the remade, updated, Silly Love Songs which was so ghastly it had to be skipped. The least said about the 2 new tracks the better. The rest are utterly pointless covers which are all far worse than the originals. No one ever should have to listen to Here, There And Everywhere with crappy horns or the uber cheesfest version of The Long and Winding Road.
As for the film the plot is so dull after 5 minutes you’ve stopped caring but its fine because its Paul and Ringo on screen. The acting at times by everyone is amateurish especially Tracey Ullman (tho a special mention has to be given to the stilted conversation between the two beatles in the recording studio at the beginning). The Victorian sequence near the end is so long and tedious that you pass from being bored into annoyance (i skipped thru it after 3 minutes and it lasts a lot longer). However that soon decends into being really pissed off due to the ending which is one of the worst i have ever seen. Godawful, abysmal, rotten, appalling, horrendous (i went to an online thesaurus); none of those words come close to summing up just how dreadful the end is. If you ever watch this movie and are able to bear the music turn it off after No More Lonely Nights (ballad) comes on, you will regret sitting thru the conclusion.
I knew one part of the ending beforehand but flipping heck – I watched this for free and yet i still want a refund and apology from Paul.
I cannot see Paul looking forward to reissuing the film and soundtrack as it sucks bigtime.
Edit: Part of the original Band On The Run chorus is heard during the film so that makes 2 good songs in the film.

Agreed, it’s certainly among the worst things Paul has ever done. I love “No More Lonely Nights” and “Wanderlust”, certainly two of his best songs from the ’80s, but the film really is awful and something of a vanity project to boot. Oddly enough my parents own the soundtrack on vinyl but I don’t think they ever saw the film.

I love Wonderlust on Tug Of War but there is little difference to the version here (which is still inferior for a few reasons), which raises the point – why bother? It was only 2 years old, as was Ballroom Dancing. Same goes for So Bad which was only 1 year before so even more daft and pointless.
Did you get the Ballroom Scene? It seemed to me that they started filming some tv ballroom thing which generated into a fight, which would be fine if that was the point, but Paul and Ringo seem surprised by it? So was it? They must have known the point of it. And if not why not stop it and start again if it was wrong?
The scene racing thru the countryside is embarrasing, especially when Paul rests one of his arms on the top of the chair whilst supposing to go a trillion miles per hour. Generally the attempts at humour fall flat.
Oh and why on earth did Paul change the opening lines to Here, There And Everywhere ?
Having said all that there is ONE fabulously delightful reference to the Beatles radio shows of 1963. The plot is that they are looking for Harry and a box of recording tapes or serious things will happen (yip its that dull). During Pop Go The Beatles there were numerous injokes regarding Harry and his box. For that alone it gets a star – which means it gets 2 out of 10, the other being for No More Lonely Nights.

Fair to say, movie making isn’t Macca’s forte.
Absent the “music video” segments, Magical Mysery – oops, Freudian slip – Mystery Tour isn’t easy to watch either. I’ve never made it more than 20 minutes into it. It’s a better soundtrack than a movie.

Ive dont mind the MMT movie that much UNTIL it gets to the stripper scene with John and George watching, bordering on ogling. Gives me a very uncomfortable creepy feeling seeing that.

I think there are some good moments in the Magical Mystery Tour film- John giving that child a balloon, the “Flying ” sequence, the “Your Mother Should Know ” sequence; but generally it’s a load of pretentious, unfocused rubbish and certainly deserved the criticisms it received.

I’ve never seen GMRTBS but these review make it sound like the most amazingly awful thing ever… and that makes me even more interested in seeing it.

I always enjoy things others don’t like.
I found this movie very enjoyable. Joe, I suggest you watch it. Though I couldn’t really concentrate, as I was practically a pile of pudding on the couch while I watched it. Just seeing them is enough
I am very happy, and one reason is because I have The Beatles. Thank you!!!! <3 <3 <3 <3

I know this album gets a lot of negative reviews but I have always liked it. I wanted to see if anyone else thought this was a good album. My favorite songs are the three song trilogy: ‘Yesterday /Here, There And Everywhere /Wanderlust. I also like ‘Eleanor’s Dream’. I know he is just re-hashing some of his old songs but I thought the album flowed nicely.

I wouldnt say its his worst album simply because of No More Lonely Nights, a fantastic track that doesnt deserve to be caught up in the utter garbage that sits alongside. All the remakes, not just the beatles tracks but also Pauls solo material, are far far far worse than the originals and utterly incredibly pointless adding nothing of any goodness to his catalogue whilst sucking every ounce of decency from the originals. The new tracks (Not Such A Bad Boy & No Values, cant remember if there are any more) are just as dreadful with dire lyrics and tunes you want out of your head as soon as possible.

I have tried maybe seven or so times to watch this movie, but I fall asleep or end up going somewhere every time. I have seen the whole movie, just never all together.
I like the music in the movie, and my favorite is Silly Love Songs. I don’t know why, but I just think that part of the movie is really funny. I like how everything is white, and then some random black guy comes out and starts dancing, lol.
I used to really like these versions of Yesterday and Here, There, and Everywhere, but they’re not as good anymore. My favorites are Give My Regards To Broad Street , Ballroom Dancing, Silly Love Songs, and So Bad. The album isn’t that bad. I would agree that it’s his worst album, but that really doesn’t mean much coming from me because I love most of his albums.

If not, I think it’s possible to like the GMRTBS versions.
And even if you do, people care for the craziest things, if you like it, fine with me, doesn’t hurt anyone.
The production of the songs is abyssmal. It sounds thin and artifical, as I said. They sound like demos.
The “Tug Of War ” “Wanderlust” is safely in my top ten Macca songs. The GMRTBS version is not as bad as the Beatles covers, but still not as good – IMO.
The vocals are nowhere near as good, biggest weakness. I’m listening to it right now, just awful, really. Sounds as if he was doing a soundcheck.
The drums are over the top, too much reverb.
The brass are not as majestic as the originals.
Of course I know the original versions. The only original I havent heard very much is Wanderlust, listened to it now and.. maybe Im crazy for saying this, but I prefer GMRTBS version of that song.. But the original is good too.
I can see what you mean though. GMRTBS is a little bit cheezy. But.. its Paul McCartney . He cant go wrong. I like all his versions anyway.

I have that movie but I don’t have the soundtrack album that came along with it. Ringo Starr didn’t play the drums on Here,There and Everywere and Yesterday as he refused to play on Beatle tracks. So conveniently he found the sticks when the third song plays.
I like the bass on the movie’s version of Silly Love Songs. The Eleanor Rigby overture version sounds nice though.

I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I came across a used copy of the soundtrack yesterday, and I was expecting something awful, but I really liked it, especially the tracks that were unique to the album. I really liked the version of Long and Winding Road with the saxophone as well.

Unlike some of the posters above I also really like this album, though I wish Paul and George Martin had been a little more adventurous with the remakes. I have never liked “Silly Love Songs” but I find the rest of the tracks are great, including the new ones (I think there are three of them, not two as suggested above?).
[EDIT] At the time I saw it as a significant milestone, for me it was the time he really started to embrace his Beatles past.

There’s, obviously, No More Lonely Nights as well as Not Such a Bad Boy (which I think is the best track from the whole thing) and No Values. You could also call Eleanor’s Dream new as it wasn’t simply an orchestral version of Eleanor Rigby . The CD also added Goodnight Princess.

OK haha, I read your comment before seeing the video link and assumed it was premiering AGAIN! And thought “Good lord, don’t tell me he’s re-releasing the damn thing! Can’t he just accept that everybody hates it and move on? Even meanmistermustard is hoping that Paul delays the remastered soundtrack until 2043 or so!”
Weird to see Victoria Principal’s name misspelled. And to see Weird Al Yankovic described as unknown.

If Paul had re-released it, parlance would have x-posted it to the “news” thread.
