Why, though? I mean, it’s not even funny when you think about it, is it? The concept is ridiculous, and if it was just that, there might be some humour to it. But the way people talk about Paul, the things they’re accusing him of, the (thinly veiled) threats they make, the insults… It’s highly disturbing to me. In fact, many of those PID believers appear to actually be mentally disturbed. And we know where that can lead…. So how is PID in any way funny?

Well, the fact that it is fake makes it sort of humorous. However, my interest comes in where, while we believe its fake, there is proof that it’s real. While you could look at this stuff to be just coincidences, you could also look at it as being proof or PID. It’s just weird how come things in Beatles history actually line up to the theory. It almost makes you question what is real and what isn’t. Like that guy that we know could be the 74 year old James Paul McCartney , or he could be the 75 year old William Shears Campbell.
I really don’t know why i find it interesting, I just always have, ever since I heard about the theory.

I think you’re confusing ‘assumptions’ and ‘anecdotal evidence’ with proof, though.
Proof of a death or replacement would be:
- a death certificate
- a dead body
- a police report
- a testimony by a direct relative
- anything that would hold up in court
Clues are not proof, nor will they ever be. You see, the thing with these so-called clues, is that there’s a theory, and people look for clues to validate that theory. That’s reversed engineering. When you have already decided what the outcome will be, you’re going to get there one way or another. Anything can fit, anything becomes a clue. But in reality, there aren’t any clues. There is pattern-seeking behaviour, there are erroneous assumptions, and there is a refusal to adhere to logic.
I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt for now, but I have to say, you’re triggering some alarms with me. We’ve had people come on here before, using tell-tale usernames, claiming they were either open-minded or of the opinion Paul is alive, only to end up being PID proponents. I could be wrong about you, but if PID is all you came here for, then I have to let you know we prefer it if people actually show an interest in the Beatles and this forum as a whole.
Some interesting topics all PID believers and advocates should have a look at:

I’m sorry, I’m not trying to start a fight or anything, I just like discussing this topic. This isn’t all I came on the forum to discuss(despite what my profile might suggest), I am actually a huge fan of the Beatles music, movies, solo works, etc. I have posted other stuff on this forum completely unrelated to PID, I just thought I’d chime in on this topic. I really hope there are no hard feelings here, because I do look forward to being a part of this forum.

There’s been a few trolls on this topic, so it has gotten kinda touchy since then. (The last 2 pages are a drag). Sorry about any hard feelings.

Hey, @William Shears Campbell , no worries. PID is actually my favorite urban legend only because the clues can be creepy and it’s interesting to read some of the crazy theories people have out there. I certainly am NOT a “believer”. It was one of the first topics I searched here when I joined back in January. Haha! And if I haven’t said it already, welcome to the forum!

I certainly didn’t intend to be rude or unwelcoming, @William Shears Campbell. I’m just a bit cautious, is all.
In the light of this discussion, I’m just going to go ahead and plug one of my favourite YT channels. In light of fairness, I will say now that I know the person who makes these videos. I vaguely recall posting one of her earliest videos here ages ago. I couldn’t find all the photos she had in there and I really wanted them, so I contacted her and we’ve been getting along great from the start. Anyway, I think she deserves some more views and feedback. I tried to convince her to join the BB but she says that’s not her thing… You guys would’ve liked her!

Some sources say it’s from the early sixties, when he used it to fool the other Fabs at a restaurant (in Sweden?). This is what Neil had to say about it (though he must be off about the year, as they didn’t go to Sweden until 1963): http://www.jojoplace.org/Shoeb….._Photo.mp3
If that’s true, than contrary to popular opinion, this is the 1963 (?) picture:
Which would make this one his disguise when he went to France:
So which is which? I don’t know. Maybe they’re both from the trip to France; maybe neither is…
McCartney donned his disguise after passing through French customs. Wig Creations, the film cosmetic company used by The Beatles on A Hard Day’s Night , had made him a moustache to wear.
They measure you and match the colour of your hair, so it was like a genuine moustache with real glue. And I had a couple of pairs of glasses made with clear lenses, which just made me look a bit different. I put a long blue overcoat on and slicked my hair back with Vaseline and just wandered around and of course nobody recognised me at all. It was good, it was quite liberating for me.

McCartney planned to drive to Paris before heading south to Bordeaux, where he had arranged to meet Mal Evans under the clock on the Saint-Eloi church on 12 November 1966. They then intended to follow the Loire river from Orleans.
It was an echo of the trip John and I made to Paris for his twenty-first birthday, really. I’d cruise, find a hotel and park. I parked away from the hotel and walked to the hotel. I would sit up in my room and write my journal, or take a little bit of movie film. I’d walk around the town and then in the evening go down to dinner, sit on my own at the table, at the height of all this Beatle thing, to ease the pressure, to balance the high-key pressure. Having a holiday and also not be recognised. And re-taste anonymity. Just sit on my own and think all sorts of artistic thoughts like, I’m on my own here, I could be writing a novel, easily. What about these characters here in this room?

Edit: Nevermind, I hadn’t read your post properly @Mademoiselle Kitty >^..^<– I thought you meant France in 1964.
You’re probably right about the picture I posted being from November ’66, but wouldn’t that suggest it’s his real moustache? Or was it never real?

It was a fake moustache
I edited my post (721), but I, too, wrote initially that the moustache in that photo looks like it might be a genuine Pepper moustache. So, a few things could be the case:
– either Paul mis-remembered and did not wear a fake moustache at the time
– he started out bare-faced and liked how the fake one looked so he grew a real moustache
– he had both
– the Pepper moustache was, in fact, never real
– something else entirely (dun, dun, dunnnnn)
