Great interview with Paul and Taylor Swift on rollingstone.com:https://www.rollingstone.com/m…..s-1089058/
I like it when Paul chats to other musicians – he tends to not recycle the same stories we’ve heard a million times. And, because he’s talking to someone on a similar path, he seems to open up more about the creative process, touring etc.
Very interesting interview, indeed!
The bit about Paul making a table reminds me of “Hey Diddle”:
“I wouldn’t make her,
Her wooden table,
I wouldn’t care”

“SmartLess” with Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, & Will Arnett is a podcast that connects and unites people from all walks of life to learn about shared experiences through thoughtful dialogue and organic hilarity. A nice surprise: in each episode of SmartLess, one of the hosts reveals his mystery guest to the other two. What ensues is a genuinely improvised and authentic conversation filled with laughter and newfound knowledge to feed the SmartLess mind.
Somehow Sean Hayes (Jack McFarland in Will & Grace) managed to get Paul for the latest episode, released three days ago.
68 minutes, including ads (the second ad break is quite ), and their pre- and post-chats, about 50-55 minutes of Paul in quite an interesting and humorous conversation as Bateman and Arnett struggle to catch up with the fact they’re talking to the actual Paul McCartney .

Did anyone else catch the “Idris Elba meets Paul McCartney ” interview on BBC? I thought it was ok and Paul looked and sounded in good shape. Idris said he was a fan but I didn’t get the impression he knew much about Paul. Also he seemed to be constantly scratching himself which was a bit annoying (perhaps nervousness?). There was also at least one point where he repeated a question he’d already asked earlier.

Was a nice cosy chat where we learned nothing new as Paul retold the same stories we’ve heard 73,374,485 times before. Surely if people know Paul they can get a conversation going that doesn’t cover how he wrote ‘Yesterday ‘ or ‘Let It Be ‘? Tho casual are viewers are watching who know nothing etc etc.

Paul did an interview with Adam Buxton on his podcast here in the UK. I like Adam Buxton and think he is a good interviewer and there were some good questions and chat. At one point he asked him how he unwinds at night to get some sleep. It only occurred to me afterwards that in effect he’d asked Paul “How do you Sleep?” I don’t know if this was a knowing nudge or asked in innocence.

Not really interviews, but maybe the more rewarding for that, Paul chatting with Annie Clark (St. Vincent) on Instagram Live on 15 April…

Posted on Paul’s YT channel a few hours ago, Romesh Ranganathan (vegan British comedian) chats with him, Mary and Stella discuss the new Linda McCartney’s Family Kitchen cookbook. Much of the talk is around vegetarianism, but also has them reflecting on memories of Linda and family life.

George was a guitarist who only wanted to play guitar, he had no interest at all in songwriting and it was only because of the success of John and Paul’s songwriting he started writing songs. I don’t get why Paul and John were therefore some kind of evil for keeping George out. Were trios even a thing, it was Goffin/King etc. It’s retrospective analysis on a situation that only developed years after the fact whilst missing out the origins.
George started writing in 1963 when Lennon/McCartney were established, what are they expecting from a conversation 3/4 years prior about someone who had no interest at the time?

It is a much more interesting interview than the silly “I didn’t break up the Beatles” line that the BBC used to promote it.

I think parents and then later family was a bit of a cop-out, though he did manage to cover quite a few different areas in his responses. This was the first episode recorded for This Cultural Life and could almost be considered a pilot. It might have worked better if he’d been asked to come up with a half-dozen or so, making it more like Desert Island Discs with cultural influences instead of records. Just having parents, John, and family was a bit limited, but then he did expand and ranged quite widely in his responses to each topics.
At the same time he recorded a BBC podcast with John Wilson to promote his lyrics book; called Inside the Songs, it looks at ten of the songs that are included in the book (despite what the video title says, it’s a podcast that was put out on 25 October, and wasn’t a radio broadcast):
Again, being unofficial, not sure how long it’ll stay up.

Southbank Centre in London, 5 November, promoting The Lyrics, “Paul McCartney in Conversation”. He’s joined by Irish poet Paul Muldoon, who worked with him on the book, with Samira Ahmed asking the questions/guiding the conversation.
Has about a seven-and-a-half minute intro, and then around 90 minutes with the Pauls.
There’s a brief bit of silence at around the 23 minute mark (if I remember correctly) while a bit of I Saw Here Standing There is played that they couldn’t get the rights to put in the video.

Paul McCartney (THE LYRICS) with Barnes & Noble CEO, James Daunt
18 November 2021
I found this quite an interesting interview:
2:36 – Paul says: “I’m sort of a songwriter”
44:07 – Richard Osman describes Paul as “the greatest songwriter of all time”
44:26 – Paul, when asked about the greatest pop song written by somebody else, mentions Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, the Beach Boys and the song God Only Knows.
48:44 – Paul says that the “polygon” in Hi, Hi, Hi was channelling the French symbolist writer, Alfred Jarry, and his “polyhedra”.
50:54 – Asked a similar question to before, Paul mentions three songs: Billy Joel’s Just The Way You Are, Sting’s Fields Of Gold, and Bob Dylan’s Mr. Tambourine Man.
And in the end
The love you take is equal to the love you make
