I wouldn’t be so sure. I can absolutely see Paul cranking out Maybe I’m Amazed even then, no matter how bad his voice gets. compromise doesn’t seem to be in his dictionary

Excitement is building over the arrival of Macca Claus and his concert tonight in Philadelphia . The classic rock station is playing much of his music – mostly by listener request. A co-worker who is going to see him tonight has been Instant Messaging me all day.
One week from tonight my wife and I will be seeing him in Hershey, PA.
Pardon me while I .

The only retiring that I see Sir Paul doing is to his bed after a long day’s work entertaining people.

“Who put all those things (images of Paul naked in bed) in your head?”
Well, right now the answer is: Necko did.

From the above article
“There’s part of me that wants to just do a show with deep cuts,” McCartney says. “It would be a special series of concerts where you call it ‘You’re Not Going to Like This One!'”
I want him to do this concert.
(Paul’s people– if you’re reading this, take notice! )

I read that too, and I was like: PLEASE DO IT!!!! And PLEASE, make it a world tour and not just something the US can enjoy.
Seriously, when I listen to Paul’s music and/or the Beatles, there are so many songs he could still sing wonderfully with his current voice. I can’t tell how often I hear a song and I think to myself, ‘he can still sing that now’. I wish he would do a tour of deep cuts. Maybe slightly smaller venues, to add to the atmosphere, to make it really a meeting of Paul and his most devoted fans. His current tours appeal to a bigger audience, but something like that would attract the real freaks fans.

Fans have been calling for years for Paul to do a deep cuts tour where Beatles numbers are scrapped along with the big Wings songs, heck most fans would be happy if he just dropped standards like ‘Let It Be ‘ and ‘Yesterday ‘ for solo numbers like ‘No More Lonely Nights’. Basically Paul should be taking his tour setlist to the shredder and having a total rethink of what to play.

I agree, although I was pleased with some of the deeper cuts he played Sunday (Temporary Secretary , to name one). But I think he’s played Live And Let Die , and Back In The USSR just about every show for 40 years! I was surprised to not hear The Long And Winding Road . My wife mentioned she would have liked to see Silly Love Songs, and I had been secretly hoping for it too, but I was thinking (and this would apply to No More Lonely Nights as well as many others) his voice, though seemingly better than in 2013, isn’t as clear & high as it was when he recorded those songs originally. He struggled a bit through Maybe I’m Amazed , but it was still wonderful and I called her off recording the video to just hold me 🙂 That was another of the ones I was secretly hoping for. Overall I think his voice is a bit better than 2013, but his energy seems to be a little less – he is in his mid 70s I guess, but he didn’t hold the instruments over his head as much, seemed to walk a bit more and jog a bit less to/from the piano etc.
Btw, a combination of great seats and a good camera brought us 61 pretty darn good shots of the show. Some we can’t remember what songs they were – I’m wondering, as they will be sizeable (about 75kb each, not huge), where (if?) I should post them, here or the pictures topic, and if people who’ve seen the tour can help id the songs we don’t remember? Attached is an example.
Thanks.

The shuttle pass is only $25 plus a $5 processing fee if you buy it straight from the Desert Trip web page. https://aeg.festivalticketing……0B93F277F6 (in case that link doesn’t work, see this one http://www.valleymusictravel.c…..-shuttles/)That is actually not a bad deal. Dedicated pick-up and drop-off locations and not having to drive in all that insanity.
Parking is usually $20 or more anyway…

Flippin’ heck that’s impressive. If me I’d have went off home after 30 minutes – hate being squashed and entraptured and prefer to leave than endure.
I made it to the front row once at a festival seated Grateful Dead show. It was difficult…another time I tried to make it, but it was just too hot and packed…I gave up about 50 feet from the stage. What a long strange trip that show was…These were college-basketball type stadia, not outdoor football ones.

Ok, @Zig told someone to make sure they posted a “morning after.” I’ve made some comments but here’s a more orderly review of the highlights (and lowlights). I don’t mean to dwell on Paul’s voice, but tbh I thought the band stayed pretty much in the background, this show was much more laid back then the Out There show I was lucky enough to see in 2013. The band members really weren’t showcased that much, which is ok, I mainly came to see Paul, but they can rock out more than they did this time. So anyway Paul’s voice was a big part of the presentation, at least to me. And this was still probably in my 10 fave concerts (remember, I saw him once before and I’ve seen a lot of great shows – the list goes something like Paul 2013, Rolling Stones ’81, Genesis ’82, EC’90, Elton ’90, CSNY ’06, CSN ’90, this one might even come before CSN)). The 2013 show will probably always be my favorite 🙂 It’s a kind of long song by song review, so just in case someone is here and doesn’t want to be spoiled (you probably shouldn’t be here!), I’ve shrouded it.
The first few songs were good, but it took me a bit to really get into it. I’m not sure why, I’ve been really tired lately…Let Me Roll It was probably when I started feel really good.
1985 was a great song choice.
Here, There And Everywhere – one of my fave Paul songs and his voice sounded real good, and of course I was the song 🙂
Maybe I’m Amazed – one of my fave from the Wings years, and I loved hearing it with the one who amazes me next to me, but his voice struggled a bit – just a bit.
We Can Work It Out – another of my Paul faves, but his voice just wasn’t up to it.
In Spite Of All The Danger – a delight that it was on the setlist, i wonder how many people had never heard it before? A reasonable rendition, atc. A nice acoustic lead guitar solo by Paul.
You Won’t See Me – another “deep cut”, this was actually one of the top 10 songs, probably…at the bottom of the top 10 😉
Love Me Do – a vibe went through the crowd when we recognized it – you could hear the audience, just under the band, singing along with every word – it was nice 🙂
And I Love Her – a deep cut I suppose, but I wasn’t all that impressed.
Blackbird – a standard, and one that his voice really isn’t up to anymore. However the effects were nice, especially on…
Here Today – another standard, but I can stand hearing it live, Paul emotes so well.
Queenie Eye – I was disappointed he didn’t play it in ’13, so I was glad and they rocked it really well. I love the song, it’s so catchy.
Fool on the Hill is one of the first songs I connect with a specific group (I was 3), and it was nice to hear.
Eleanor Rigby was great to hear, though he struggled noticeably with the vocal.
Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite! was another nice choice.
Something , I thought, was not as good as he did in 2013. But people sang along, it felt good.
Ob-la-di, Ob-la-do – a nice choice, I was glad he did the last verse with the genders reversed as is on the stereo White Album (but I don’t think the mono).
Band On The Run – I thought the band rocked this out pretty well, and was happy to experience it live. I love the song (like many people). Paul’s voice was pretty good for it too, especially considering it’s 2 hours into the show.
Back In The USSR /Let it Be/Live And Let Die – if you’ve seen them on just about every concert dvd he has out, you’ve seen it. On the good side, the band probably rocked hardest on the first and last (at least until the encore). The same ol’ flame effects (although I did capture a pretty cool gif of it 🙂 – ask if you want it!
Hey Jude – hey, what can you say about seeing one of the greatest rock and roll songs ever written performed by the author? no matter how many times, it’s still good. And what else could he realistically have closed the show with?
Encore:
Yesterday – and here I thought we’d gotten through the show without it. It’s a great song, and Paul’s fave, so I dealt
Hi, Hi, Hi – a nice choice, nice in the encore, rocked out well.
Birthday – I think Helter Skelter would have been a better choice for a rocker, as much as I feel that song has bad vibes…even though I already saw him do it, it was good in 2013.
Mull Of Kintyre – a surprise, and nothing all that special to me. The people in Vancouver on 20.4 got to see I Saw Her Standing There after it!
Golden/Carry/The End – Again, no matter how many times you see it, he did write the best ending line any band in history ever went out on, and people will continue to be amazed when they happen on it in 100 years. I still regularly get chills listening to it, and the peaceful feeling in the arena was great. The lights were awesome.
38 songs, same as 2013. Mostly different ones, so that was cool. I really wish we could have seen Ringo this year, maybe he’ll be back next year, he seems as everlasting as Paul. Aimee Doris Day would love his show.
