@sir walter raleigh

“The album with the most appearances on your list is Flaming Pie

I think Chaos and Creation is right up there, but your point is well taken. Lot of good stuff from the 80s to the present.

Maybe a couple of other people will put up their list.

 Some list!

I find it fascinating that the 3 of us so far would be picking such different songs.

Perhaps when we have enough lists, we could give each song 1 point every time it appears on a list.

So, for now, the leading songs (appearing on all 3 lists) would have 3 points.

@Ahhh Girl  Both Sir Walter Raleigh and I really like the B-side to Goodnight Tonight – Daytime Nighttime Suffering. Wondering if you’ve heard that one.

You picked a lot of songs off London Town but left off my 2 faves Deliver Your Children and Don’t Let It Bring You Down. DLITYD I can see ‘coz it is on the slow, moody side; but DYC has (IMO) a great guitar lick and great harmonies with Denny Laine. Oh well, this is what makes this fun.

I don’t care much for Daytime Nighttime Suffering. The subject matter rubs me the wrong way. The music and his voice are good, but … no … don’t like it enough to want to keep listening to it.

Feck!! AG!! Spies Like Us is an example of Paul’s poorest from a decade with much of his poorest work. Just a dreadful dreadful song with an appallingly horrific production, as much of a car crash as the film it was made for. There was me thinking you knew better!! Tut-tut!

Ahhh Girl …. you left ‘Maybe I’m Amazed ‘ off from ‘McCartney’ off your list, somehow! 🙂 It is a Top 5, Paul song, of all time, in my opinion!  Actually, this is one of the solo songs that I’d have loved to have heard recorded by The Beatles! Imagine this and ‘All Things Must Pass ‘ on Side One of ‘Abbey Road ‘, in place of ‘Maxwell’s Silver Hammer ‘ and ‘Oh Darling!’, although I don’t think that it was written by that time?!

Into The Sky with Diamonds … I think ‘Deliver Your Children’ was more of  Denny Laine song, which Paul helped finish …. Denny sings the main lead vocal.

@ahhh girl  re “Daytime Nightime Suffering”: OK, “Good taste is my taste” said Voltaire.  Paul’s written a number of songs featuring people down on their luck – mostly women (E Rigby, Lady Madonna , Another Day ); I see this as fitting right in.

@Ron Nasty. Let’s see your list!

@alittlebitolder  Like many co-written songs, I think it’s hard to tell exactly who contributed what. They’re singing in harmony the whole way, so I find it hard to say that one or the other is singing lead (right?). My feeling is that any song that’s attributed to McCartney and someone else is part of his canon unless it’s glaringly not (Julia , I’m A Loser ,….)

@Ahhh Girl I remember you also not liking Too Much Rain off of Chaos and Creation because of the subject matter. Similar reasoning? I just think both songs are incredibly catchy.

Hurumph. If I’d known I’d get grilled and ridiculed for my choices, I would have kept them to myself. a-hard-days-night-paul-11 Still love y’all though.

Too Much Rain – I know that just learning to laugh, smile, and brush away your sorrow doesn’t get everyone out of deep depression. Some people, including me, require medicine. That’s my tiff with that song. It may be damaging advice to some people if they try to follow it and not go get professional help. Yeah, see how this is very personal. Back off, McCartney.

Yes, I can leave Maybe I’m Amazed behind when I go to my island. It won’t ever be out of my head; I just don’t want to listen to it over and over. Neither did I choose Another Day . Just makes me well up. Don’t need that on my happy place island.

I adore Spies Like Us. And, McCartney is sooooooooo adorable in the video. He is having sooooooo much fun in it. I love his look during this period.

Not that your opinion makes me like the song less, but it without a doubt changes the way I hear it, which is why engage in these discussions in the first place. billy-preston_01_gif

Also, I feel like I’m being unfaithful to Paul when I talk bad about any of his songs.

There is a fantastic rough mix/demo of ‘SLU’ with great guitar work. Add that to a proper Paul vocal and you’ve a song whereas currently you’ve got a waste of time.
There are a good number of Paul songs, especially from the 80’s, that would benefit greatly from different arrangements or production; songs screaming for changes to make them far better.

5 times!!! That’s close to torture, cruel and unusual punishment…

But if I have to watch the video five times… I suppose it will have to be done…

At least I only have to watch the video, gotta love the mute button… ahdn_john_08_gifa-hard-days-night-george-10
