I came across this while trying to find a different thread…
It’s been over 7 months, are you going to give us the answer?
"Please don't bring your banjo back, I know where it's been.. I wasn't hardly gone a day, when it became the scene.. Banjos! Banjos! All the time, I can't forget that tune.. and if I ever see another banjo, I'm going out and buy a big balloon!"

Oh Jeez. In my dim memory, I thought someone had answered me — looks they never did!
It was called “The Prince’s Trust Concert”, performed live in 1986, also with Elton John and Tina Turner. Among the many pop/rock performers was the 80s glam rock guy from the UK, Paul Young who seemed to sort of have a McCartney look — so I thought it was clever of Paul to lean into the microphone at one point and look over and say “Paul…?” to introduce him.

Thanks for the answer! I have seen a clip from that before. I found this:
I can’t find the spot though. He looks over his shoulder near the beginning but I can’t hear what he says… is that the part?
Also on a side note: Is it just me, or did Paul look kinda “larger” during the late 80’s through the 90’s? I’m not sure if it’s even wieght, or just the baggy style of clothes at the time, mixed with the bigger hair? He just looks slim most of the time (all thought the 60’s 70’s, early 80’s, and past 2000, up to today, even at 71). Not trying to be judgemental, just a random observation I made.

Thanks for that link. Paul Young’s one of my favorite singers, so it was a thrill to see the two Pauls up on stage together.
Paul’s weight has definitely fluctuated over the years, so you’re not imagining that re: the late 80s/90s. Peter Doggett’s book has a reference to an employee at Apple unkindly referring to Paul (behind his back) around ’68 or ’69 as “fat-faced McCartney.”

Thats is not only rude of that apple employee, but also an innacurate observation. If Paul was”fat faced” in ’68 or ’69, then that employee needed glasses!

I can’t remember exactly where it was, but I believe it was right after Paul McCartney did a duet with Tina Turner (“Get Back ” — with everyone else also playing along).
As for the “larger Paul”, I agree with you on that. It could be because of his Irish extraction — they say Irish *heads* tend to balloon as their owners get older (though that wouldn’t explain why he’s slimmer in the last decade, perhaps he’s consciously keeping his weight down).

He was quite thin in ’67… coincidentally the year he was doing cocaine?
He was also pretty thin in the 70s…. could be the clothes, too.
I think he looked good any size. Who doesn’t fluctuate?
Another thing… is it just me, or did he look a bit older in the 90’s, considering how he looks now?
This is from March 11, 1997, when he was knighted. He was 54…
And here he is more recent…
It must be the grey hair maybe?

No, Paul definitely looks older now than he did in the nineties. And about him being bigger in the very late eighties, early nineties, I Always thought so too. It’s like his head was rounder or something. It’s probably not really, but it looks like it.

Maybe Faul died and we got another new Paul who was a little more podgy and then he died and the new new Paul was slimmer. Maybe Paul is always going to be replaced and in the year 2468 he will still be touring. Would explain his marriage to Mucka.
