Has anyone else notice this cult following on the internet? More specifically Jane Asher and Paul McCartney ‘s relationship. I just think it’s crazy that people are obsessed with a relationship that ended 45 years ago! He dated her for a while (5 years), they got engaged, then broke up (apparently she caught him cheating-which he did all the time anyways-but she has never said, which I think is classy of her for sure). I just don’t get why there is such an obsession over it. I’m sure she was a nice girl, but they obviously were not a good fit (she seemed like kind of a wet blanket to me.. Linda was way more his style). Is there any real need to dissect it any more than that? Are we supposed to feel bad for her? I mean, she got to date Paul McCartney !
I’m a huge Linda fan, so I find it insulting to her in a way. She’s the one that married him, bore 3 of his children, and stayed with him for 29 years (still would be together too if she hadn’t passed away so young… rest in peace sweet Linda). Ok, that’s my rant for the day. Thanks!

I think there are three reasons for the interest in the Jane Asher relationship.
1) It was a pivotal relationship in Paul’s development. It was her, because of the world she came from, who helped him to develop his artistic horizons and ambitions. They as couple, along with George and Patti, were among the “beautiful people” at the time.
2) Many of Paul’s greatest Beatles songs were inspired by her.
3) The fact that for all these years she has maintained an extremely dignified “no comment” on the subject of the Paul; she knows a memoir of her time would earn her millions, yet unlike so many of the others who Beatles loved and left, she has decided to remain silent.
In many ways I think she deserves as much respect as Linda.

I wouldn’t call her a wet blanket because of what mja6758 said for number one. Sure in the end, Linda was the better suit, but he was also attracted to the artsy stuff that came along with Jane. Again like mja6758 said, Paul wrote many of his greatest Beatles song about her or were inspired by her. She also maintained her class by not selling out for millions. I respect her and Linda for having jobs especially in 60s. I respect Jane for putting Paul in his place while he was being a chauvinist, like a lot of men in the 60s. But then again, Linda was better suited for him and made him grow up too.
I know some people find her more attractive then Linda. I think there both pretty in different ways and just like Paul was attracted to both of them in different ways.

#2 I agree with, she definitely inspired a lot of great songs that Paul wrote. But I still wouldn’t give her too much credit, Paul is the one that wrote them. She was the muse. He wrote many songs for Linda too. He was quoted once saying “Every love song I write is for Linda.”
Again, I’m a huge Linda fan so I’m probably biased.

Okay, the wet blanket thing was kinda bitchy. Sorry Jane.
Like I said, I do totally respect the fact that she hasn’t sold the story. That takes a lot of class, especially to hold out that many years (and counting). That is my biggest (of many) pet peeve with **ew** Heather Mills. The things she said about Paul were atrocious, AND they have a daughter! It’s so unbelievably trashy. Beatrice is going to read all the horrible things she has said about her dad one day, and she might lose a lot of respect for her mother. I sure would.

Why don’t people consider Heather Paul’s daughter? I’m pretty sure he considers her a daughter, didn’t he adopt her?
As for the Jane Asher thing, she was his main girlfriend during The Beatles. They broke up in 68, so he was only with Linda for less than two years as a Beatle. He was with Jane at his most baby faced stage, and a lot of people think that Jane was really cute, too. I think the biggest reason is just how they looked together.

I totally consider Heather his daughter. He adopted her in 1969 I believe, pretty much right away. What I said that Linda bore three of his children, she had already had Heather when she met Paul. That’s all I meant by that.

Is that young lady with Paul in all the photo stills and scenes from Magical Mystery Tour Jane Asher? She doesn’t look like other photos of Jane Asher I’ve seen… but wouldn’t it be about the right time period?

You have an example? Yes, it would be around the right time period.

The girl next to Paul on the bus (unfortunately Ringo is partially in the way):
Heres a color one, you can see the face her bit better.
I want to say no its not Jane, but I’m not too terribly sure. He was sitting next to a long blonde hair woman with a dot most of the bus scenes, if I remember correctly.

Yes, that’s part of it — the woman is blonde, whereas wasn’t Jane Asher rather markedly a redhead? Plus this blonde woman has a rounder cuter nose, where Asher had a kind of sharper bird’s nose.
Yes she was a redhead, never paid attention to her nose though.lol
Maybe I’ll start a topic devoted to “Jane Asher’s Nose”.

Jane Asher isnt in MMT. The blonde would have been an actress the Beatles hired thru that actors directory they used, i cant remember the part she played but it would be easy to find out and therefore her name. No doubt someone here will know.
I respect Jane a lot for not selling her story. It seems like every individual who breathed on a Beatle during the 60’s has now sold their story, from step-mother in law to newpaper boy who once sold a copy of the Daily Mail to Paul, so to have someone who actually has a story to sell but maintains a degree of dignity is refreshing. Think of all the muck Jane could tell about Paul bedding blondes, brunettes, red-heads etc that would sell millions, then throw in the 60’s, her working career, being very near the centre of the beatles during the time, the songs inspired by her, and its not too bad a content.
As for Heather Mills, hopefully with all the cash she has she wont feel the need to write her story but no doubt it will come out one day. How much folk would believe and even how much would even be true is another matter. There isnt a lot of warmth going her way from the British public & press for how she acted throughout the divorce, and i dont think there was much before – not that that would stop the media from having her splashed on the front pages and on every tv sofa in the country. Anyway she’s currently trying to get into the GB Paralympic Skiing team so hopefully she hasnt got the time.

I do like this braid thing she did a lot:
Gorgeous. As a good-old red-blooded male, I’ve always thought she was stunning…even now. I’ve seen pictures of her recently and even as a 60-something year old woman, she’s beautiful.
And I do respect her for not selling her stories about her time with Paul, even though I wish she’d share. I don’t care about anything salacious…I just would be interested in her insight and perspective on the musical and cultural upheaval they were at the center of from her vantage point as the companion of 1/2 of the most famous songwriting team in popular music history.
