My take is that generally Paul is the most well-recognized and ‘poppy’ of the Fab Four. The first one being that George and Ringo didn’t really make many songs during their tenure with the Beatles, and that John is probably the most experimental of the four when it comes to musical composition. Paul being the ‘poppiest’ of the bunch seems to draw quite a bit of ire from a certain part of the fandom, especially those who especially loved the more experimental part of the Beatles.
That’s just my take on it. You can definitely give some other reasoning.
I’m a little miffed that “When I’m 64” gets a lot of flak. I love that song, probably one of my favorites on “Sgt Peppers” right now. It’s not the best, but I don’t care, it’s so pure and innocent and makes me a little embarrased listening to it. I’ll never sing it at a karaoke, too embarrasing.

Some people hate on Paul’s music, I suppose, but I think Ringo’s music gets the most hate by far. It also gets the least amount of attention.

I know about five Ringo tracks, but his song Liverpool 8 is actually a huge favourite of mine. Great anthem of Beatles nostalgia.
Also I wouldn’t be embarassed for singing When I’m Sixty-Four (well maybe, but for singing out of tune not because of the song). I can stand one hundred percent behind the track.

Hating on Paul is just childish. The guy’s a genius. His fingerprints are all over almost every thing Beatles ever did.
Yep. Hating Paul is hating a huge chunk of The Beatles. Which I can’t imagine how doing so makes someone a fan.

Paul Prole is right: “Hating on” Paul by any self-declared Beatles superfan is just absurd. At worst, they should find themselves supremely annoyed by certain characteristics of his, or frustrated at his missteps, while still seeing his accomplishments.

I’ve decided to focus myself on Paul’s albums more than usual over the coming weeks/months in between the usual Beatles listening. Looking forward to it, there’s a lot to dig in to.

I’ve seen Wings dismissed by Beatles and non-Beatles fans as corny 70s pop, which is absurd. One of the most talented rock musicians ever has a super diverse catalogue of music that rocks, is super funky, yet sentimental and in many ways experimental and cutting edge, while maintaining chart topping sensibilities. Its wildly impressive what Paul was able to do and I really love it. All the solo Beatles are underrated by my generation, except for Ram which seems to have achieved a cult status among indie fans. That’s well deserved of course, (its one of the best albums ever) but I would love to see Mind Games or Extra Texture get the same treatment.

Yeah it’s a weird sociological phenomenon when so many fans of pop/rock wrinkle their nose at Paul’s solo work and Wings, yet it’s highly probable that 100% of the other musicians & bands they love would profoundly disagree with their own fans about Paul.

Yes, the first mistake ist do dismiss what Paul has done after the 60s, the second mistake is to dimsiss what hes done after the 70s.
I could name a lot of Paul McCartney songs that I love from every decade, from the 1960s to the 2020s.
His two best post Beatles phases to me are the 70s/Wings era and the time since Chaos And Creation In The Backyard , he has truly gone on a streak of great albums since then.
