Then there are the McCartney fans who gave up and despaired after Venus And Mars . We kept trying, after that, but never found an album that matched the magic of the first six albums (and Venus And Mars was already showing the decline).
This isn’t to say that he hasn’t put out the occasional brilliant song after 1975. But no really good album.

Really? Tug Of War , Flaming Pie , Chaos And Creation In The Backyard , Electric Arguments, and Memory Almost Full all did NOTHING for you???

I like a few songs on Press To Play quite a lot: Press, Move Over Busker, Good Times Coming/Feel the Sun, and Stranglehold are all good tunes. But I think we can all agree that after the excellent Tug Of War , he lost his way a bit until Flowers In The Dirt .
I’m rather oddly infatuated with “Pretty Little Head.” I think it sort of makes a nice companion piece to “Temporary Secretary .”

I detest “Temporary Secretary ” so much, that I just deleted it out my iTunes. I listened to it once, and that was more than enough times.
"Please don't bring your banjo back, I know where it's been.. I wasn't hardly gone a day, when it became the scene.. Banjos! Banjos! All the time, I can't forget that tune.. and if I ever see another banjo, I'm going out and buy a big balloon!"

I like TS a lot, its something different in the Macca backlog of music. McCartney 2 is an album i like a lot, one of my faves but as said above if i listen to an album twice in quick succession i wont listen to it for ages afterwards. I generally go for certain songs from the album shoved on random amongst other shoved on songs and the beatles core albums. Means if one track is guff then im going to get a good one soon after (unless Hold Me Tight comes on).

I think it’s great, in a kind of fascinatingly awful way. I know some people say it’s his worst ever track, but I’d take the sheer quirky comic strangeness of it over any of his vapid, lazy mid-80s ballads or brainless “anthems” any day of the week. I genuinely recommend listening to it a few more times (preferably in the context of the McCartney II album), it may well grow on you. Whenever I stick that record on I can’t help but be baffled and amazed that this same man wrote Hey Jude ! A lot of the time nowadays I wish he’d do more experimental projects like II and Electric Arguments, I find them far more interesting than some of his newer pop stuff and think they would increase his street cred a little.

^Agreed! I hated it years ago when I first heard it but it grew on me and now I think it’s one of his best, wackiest singles ever. I would highly recommend not giving up on it after only 1 listen…

I absolutely love RAM, my favourite post-Beatles album. I also love McCartney, Tug Of War and Flaming Pie
