Film Threat recently did a blow-by-blow review of the James Paul McCartney special Paul did in ’73. Not at all complimentary, but amusing.
If you haven’t seen it, the seventh segment the review refers to is this one. The pornstache just makes it.

I’m going to have to be a hipster and point out a mistake in the article: It refers to “Heart Of The Country ” as a Wings song… we all know it’s from RAM.
I like the special, it’s entertaining anyways.
"Please don't bring your banjo back, I know where it's been.. I wasn't hardly gone a day, when it became the scene.. Banjos! Banjos! All the time, I can't forget that tune.. and if I ever see another banjo, I'm going out and buy a big balloon!"

The Washington Post was nastier, taking Linda to task as not being her husband’s artistic equal. “Mrs. McCartney’s previous careers … do not qualify her to perform in public,” according to the Post’s critic.

People used to have such a hair across their ass about Linda…NO ONE said she was Paul’s equal…hell, SHE said it. He just really wanted to be with her all the time so the easiest way to do it was to teach her how to play keyboards and have her in the band.

Haha it does sound like a pretty goofy production though! The fact that Paul glosses it off is a bit of a giveaway that he doesn’t care for it either – obviously was forced into producing it and gave it very little thought. That article makes me kinda want to see it for the laffs. (after an intoxicant or two.)
I wasn’t aware Film Threat was still around. I bought a coupla issues of the print version back in about 1992 or so. Looks like they’re still as amusingly snarky as they were.
Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

James Paul McCartney is rather dodgy. Paul’s ideas for film projects didn’t often work out as great as he imagined them though, did they? 60s: Magical Mystery Tour ; 70s: James Paul McCartney ; 80s: Give My Regards To Broad Street .

OK, just watched most of it. I wonder how long it took the scenarists to conceive of those different musical settings? And what is up with that “Uncle Albert ” video?? Wings live footage was pretty good, and I’m happy for Linda pulling off her keyboard parts properly. I like her hair too!
Song-and-dance number = facepalm

Maybe I’m Amazed was first released in Mc Cartney only later to be released by the Wings. Jimmy (on Rockshow) said that they did this song years back but surely Paul did it on his own.

Both technically not Wings songs.

You mean the recording done for the video was technically by “Paul McCartney , with Wings” or whatever they called themselves then?
